Our Story
Years ago, when Ancre and I, Torik, were in our mid twenties, my grandfather, Ardus, told us a story that changed our lives forever. He began by telling us about an organization that our ancestors had started; it was called the Union of Commerce. The Union had artisans, alchemists, miners, and many other jobs. He told us about how a dark guild (name unknown) had come and placed a great order of many different types of advanced weaponry. The same weaponry that was used to destroy the UoC. No one knows how it happened but the members of the Union began to disappear, one after the other. Eventually the entire span of workers had gone missing. Many tried to solve the mystery, but they too disappeared. My grandfather was the friend of a member of the guild. He had escaped by quitting the guild before he was hunted. He lived in a small house in Ojeveda. My grandfather told us to go see him and find out more information on the Union. Ancre and I wanted to know more so we sought out my grandfather's friend. We found him and he gave us a message. When we returned, my grandfather had passed away. At his funeral we read the message. It said that there was an old stash of items let from the union. We left immediately and found the treasure guarded by Tefusangs. Ancre quickly disposed of the Tefusangs and we gathered the treasure. We began a new life as the proud owners of the newly reformed Union.
A few months ago we heard sightings of the same dark guild emblem that had destroyed the UoC in the past. We began to fear that they would come back so we prepared some new weapons and asked our friends from a combat oriented guild to help defend us. We paid them with all the equipment they needed. They guarded us from rogues and the occasional thief that scrounged at our feet. Life was great until a band of dark warriors suited in black marched into the town of Ojeveda. The main guards tried to stop them but they were no
match for the masked beings. They carried large swords and great Square shields. They came straight for the UoC building. Ancre and I took our work suits off in hope of being considered peasants. Luckily it worked. The dark warriors prodded us onto the streets. We heard clanks and yelps behind the closed door. The warriors walked out and left the town. We walked into the building to see the workers slaughtered and our chests empty. We had lost all of our gold and we wouldn't have a chance to rebuild what we lost. We walked onto the streets hoping this was just a dream.
We lived on the streets begging and scrounging for food. We talked to the few friends we had left and borrowed small amounts of money to buy food and other things we might need. We lived like this for three weeks until a very old friend of Ancre walked by…
Valbrandr: what are you two doing here sitting on the street?
Ancre: We live here.
Val: how did this happen? You had a thriving business.
Torik: it was destroyed by the same guild that destroyed UoC before.
Val: that's terrible. How would you like a job with the Community of
Vaalnor? We will provide food and shelter and clothing until you are able to
take care of yourselves.
Ancre: we would be very thankful.
We now live in the Community and we have decided to recreate the Union under a new name. We will have the Protection of the Vaalgaurd and the authority of the Council. We have begun a new company called the Union of Vaalnor.

Goal
The goal of this guild is to provide the guilds of Yliakum with any item they may need. We will work hard and respect the order. Any guild may order from us no matter what alignment or race. We will not declare war on anyone. Any lawbreakers will deal with the Vaalgaurd and will pay for there actions accordingly. We are the workers, builders, blacksmiths, and most commercial jobs, of Vaalnor. We will always put Vaalnor and friends above others.
We are part of a large community. There are 4 parts:
-Council of Vaalnor
-Union of Vaalnor
-Vaalgaurd
-Eyes of Vaalnor
as the guild system begins to get more complex so will our community. If you’d like to join the UoV speak with Archon, Ancre or myself. If I missed anything I will edit this later. I know this thread has been made a few times but as the new leader I'd like to be able to edit this post when i need to.
[Edit] The Ranks are revamped and we are now paying our members to do jobs.[/Edit]

When are the guild leaders ingame? I'm interested in joining, but I don't know how to reach any of you.
-
Your in-game name is Astraea as well? Then I'll look out for you to see if I can get you in. I'm sure Torik, the UoV leader, will be on the lookout for you as well as soon as he reads this.
-
Astraea, what time zone are you in? and when do you usually go online. I am around quite often during the day and I only go online a little bit during that time. So if i know when your on i can go on and invite you 8)
-
I'm usually on from 5 GMT to 8 GMT.
Ingame name Astraea Morlinde
-
Ahh that'd be about my timezone .. I'll see what I can do to get you in as quick as possible. ;)
-
Awww... how cute. My brainchild gone awry gets another member. I'm so proud. How's Vaalnor going, Zan? Where's Valb?
-
Vaalnor is steadily growing a bit at a time and Val is still around. You should get your butt back here as well Phinehas .. join your brainchild!
-
Let me start by saying I am new to planeshift and its workings. However, I have been involved in role playing games for the better part of 2 decades. I am very interested in becoming an initiate of the Union of Vaalnor to learn the ways of the game and prove my metal (literally as I am plotting for a fine and exotic weapon smith character). Kondrakier is my name in-game. I am usually on around 2am-5am EST and sometimes earlier.
I am very knowledable of RP ettiquite, so please RP the whole thing with me if you want.
Thank you!
-
Well, Im not the person to give the yes or no.. but you sound like the right type of person that Torik is looking for.. Welcome to Hydlaa.
-
since we are down at the moment...(this had better be good)...im interested in joining my in-game name is dwarfmelon so il try to reach u and stuff...
-
According to the Planeshift naming policy, you are, unfortunately, going to have to find a different name for your character. :(
-
yes easton that has been accounted for. hi its me myrthe appealing for a place in your guild.
-
Wow, this server downtime is good for recruiting :P
I think Torik is still busy with his real life exams but I'm certain you can both find a place within the Union. Roleplaying is definitely a plus and now that we can finally craft soon the Union will have plenty to do. I'll look out for both of you as soon as the update has gone through. Until then you could register on the forums already (see first post for the website addy).
-
lol its just one of us. i deleted that account because i wanted my name to match my tag. anyway thanks ill check it out. :)
-
Actually I was referring to Kondrakier and you, Myrthe. I realized you're the same person as assassinsrus ;)

I am posting this under all CoV-ruled "sub-guilds".
This is the temporary forum until the new website is finished. Please register and keep in touch.

If you want to rework your site Archon just let me know and I'll give you ftp access to a portion of the server in a spot for it if you ilke. It was really a nice and handy thing.
-
Is the Vaalnor still alive?
-
I'm afraid you can't quite call it alive anymore ... in-game we're basically extinct though a few of us are still active in other places.
-
More like barely kicking. I make it ingame once a week or so at best. The issue really ended up being a disagreement between leaders about the future of the guild and it sort of got put on hold as a result. I still hold guild leader, Valbrandr has left the guild though temporarily? Not sure. In any case I'd like to dust off the shelves and keep plugging along but the old mainstays just don't seem that interested. I was never particularly active ingame as my role was a bit different anyways so I'm really not the person who should be leading the guild. Suggestions, etc are definitely welcome.
-
If you need some help, the IIA would be glad to do atleast a few favours for you. I'm sure the rest of the Dark Empire would aswell. The Community of Vaalnor has been one of the better guilds since it came to be and I'd love to see it returned to it's former glory.
-
Vaalnor is dead, and i'm sure Valbrandr agrees with me. We've had countless conversation with eachother about this and i'm pretty sure you can call us buried and dead now.
-
Hello again, Zan. Remeber me?
-
I do think there is a difference between dead an inactive. There is a lot in place that could easily be used to start building again, the question as always is commitment and motivation to do so.
-
To be honest, I remember when the DE was little more than Sangwa and I alternating between who was active :P
There's always chance to become great again.
-
*wonders if he should get Val on the forum just to prove his point*
-
... perhaps
originally posted by Valbrandr:
The community itself is what I am most concerned with. That was acutually alot of what was driving me with the URPS. I want this community to forever be a closely knit group. I for one will never leave, as much as that may sadden sep. We need to think of new ways to get people involved in game and out. In addition, attract new people who have the desire to stay with the community and help. I will try to join the devs but if nothing else I will be here to help.
This was of course referring to the community as a whole, not necessarily the Community of Vaalnor as in some ways it didn't exist. I think a problem was that the founders, namely myself and Valbrandr had differing goals when it came to the direction of CoV. CoV was originally discussed as a brainchild of a conversation between Valbrandr and Phinehas iirc, and was shaped into form by the old faithful members like Lishom, Myself, Valbrandr, Jekkar, Gorzhuul, and others. As the initial excitement wound down though we realized we needed more concrete goals and set out to better define ourselves, which was in my opinion, to our detriment. I saw the community more as a community of people, and Val saw the community as a community existing within a town. In some ways I latched on to this idea despite what I perceived as an unrealistic goal. So I set out to bring it to fruition in my own way, with the Vaalnor Town Project, which I later morphed into the Community Modeling Project in an attempt to attract a few more team members and create some viable artwork for ingame use. The idea of CoV as a community within a town relied heavily on an ingame place to exist but as they year wore on it became evident to me that Talad would never allow it, no matter how neutral it was. As a result as we discussed the future of CoV I tried arguing more towards the idea of the community existing as simply a community of people because I thought the whole town goals were too idealistic and unrealistic. Perhaps I shouldn't have doubted our commitment to such a large endeavor, but I did nonetheless. In the end though I don't think it mattered who was right and wrong, the problem was that we couldn't easily agree. In our own differing ways Valbrandr and I are both incredibly stubborn people when it comes to defending our ideals.
In retrospect the guild no matter what was a good thing. I've several friends I care deeply for, and I consider us in some ways a fragmented but still viable community - in game or out of game. Maybe we all became too good of friends in real life and as such didn't feel the need to RP that our characters were truly friends in game. Maybe there were other factors. In the end it doesn't matter. The guild either continues or not, and thats up to the community. Do we or do we not? I don't know. I want to. Maybe it will be a community of me and a guild list of inactives. Who knows? :D Either way at this point I'm not willing to disband the guild, it means something to me, even if it is just 2.5 years wasted. It motivated me to learn 3d modeling, 2d texturing and artwork, to create mods, to network with interesting people, and for all those things I'm grateful. In all truthful brutal honesty I think the Community of Vaalnor made a difference, even if it was a small one, in the lives of many people.
And probably in all truthfulness I harbor a perhaps unrealistic hope that PlaneShift will be everything I always dreamed it could be. Sadly though I don't think that will ever be the case. I live mostly now in a world where I have the freedom to create my own way, and have brought some of the story of Vaalnor with it. But even in this case it was PlaneShift and CoV that propelled me there, nothing short of my sudden and immediate real life death will make me forget all of that and just disband a community I love, cherish, and value. Even if its only symbolic, I want to keep it for as long as I can.

That's the spirirt!
Ideas are immortal, they never die. Organizations may fall, but the basic idea behind them will survive the ages and may be incorporated into a new one.
Keep it up with the idea, and it will never die.

All my Vaalnor characters I created (Yes, I created several to at least give it a notion of activity in different fields :P) still exist and I consider them still living in Yliakum. I only rarely ue them however. So essentially Induane is right, Vaalnor still exists and will always exist (or at least until the next character wipe :p). Zan is still a member of Vaalnor and will always remain so. However it is in a deep sleep and without dedicated people in-game trying to revive it I honestly don't see any change in this, no offence to Ind at all.
However without bragging I can say that together with Jekkar I was the most active member of the Vaalnor Council in-game. Eventually I got tired of PS in general and also tired of carrying a lot of the weight of Vaalnor on my shoulders. When I came back to planeshift, Vaalnor's activity was near the freezing point.
I'm playing Planeshift to have fun and be able to roleplay with others. However much I regret it, because Vaalnor was the biggest community project I got involved in and in theory it was amazing, I simply didn't have fun anymore because there weren't enough members in the guild to roleplay with. Those who were a part of it were great friends and great minds but we just didn't have enough activity and manpower to make the Community of Vaalnor appealing in-game. What happened after I was gone, I don't know much about ... but honestly I don't think it changed that much. The main problem of Vaalnor has been in-game activity, having most of its key members as rather busy people in real life. It's sad that such a thing can cause a good idea's downfall but that's reality for ya.
So now I joined the only guild that I know to have reproduced Vaalnor's ideas and strengths but which had the reputation and manpower to actually pull it off, the Dark Empire. If Vaalnor revives itself, I will be back .. I'm not going to leave the Empire fully but I consider myself a part of both at the moment and still have characters in both.
PS.: Myrthe, yes I remember you .. also noticed you ended up within the Empire yourself :D
-
Well... I for one will keep roleplaying as perhaps the last member of the Vaal Guard. And, I will keep trying to recruit people to the cause of being a guardsmen. I had to leave due to a car accident (not exactly my ideal choice there...) and then I will admit, I forgot about it afterwards. But I have rediscovered planeshift, and will continue in the function that I was in before, albeit with less people. I will also be actively recruiting for the Vaal Guard, we will see where it ends up.
-
In that case, expect Tyrnal to back you up still .. however maybe less intense since I have to distribute my in-game time over both Vaalnor and the Empire.
Glad to see you back!
-
I too have done as you Zan, i have a character in the Dark Empire aswell as a couple in Vaalnor. If all goes well and Vaalnor returns from the deep then i will split my time between the 2 guilds.
And perhaps i can continue my positions in Vaalnor with my 2 characters, Torik and Gorzhuul.
-
Good ole Gor, loyal to the last. Vaalnor was lucky to get several like that. Jekkar for instance has stuck around even as we slowly slipped into inactivity - there if it weren't for him it would have been me alone every day in the guild chat channel - hoping to see someone :)
-
PS.: Myrthe, yes I remember you .. also noticed you ended up within the Empire yourself :D
I've come full circle :D
