Title: Proglin's Art
Post by: Proglin on May 31, 2006, 05:14:59 pm
Now... for the love of pete. Please remove this entire thread if it is not good enough, or you no longer like it. I'll try and put on as many art as I can. Mainly sketches, I'm guessing. Or art I'd really like to share with you.

And Seriously.. if it isn't good enough for ya, just post in this thread, and I'll ask for it to be removed.

Hey, no selfhatred just yet ;D I think she's great, Prog. She's beautiful, actually. Her neck seems to be bit twisted but we learn from our mistakes, and that's what makes an artist. Keep at it and gimme some more :) Could you draw a Kran? Me love krans!

Proglin first of all who cares if others think it is good enough. :P It is your work, or course it is!!! Secondly I likes, and have to agree with Baldur, she has a pretty look to her. Holy poofy hair though. I like the look your have managed to capture in her eyes. Kind of like she is daring you to do something .... like ... just try and comb my hair I dare you. XD

Ok... 2 klyros's coming up.. one with and one without colour. Please tell me wether or not colouring my drawings makes them better, or worse.

Very good, he looks like a Klyran mobster :D :detective:

Hmm, your coloring enhances your parts and erases some of your faults, but to me it also erases it's details. You should try with a more marked pen, even paint. That'll give you a great contrast and more space to be picky about the details.

Really good work there proglin, I really like the detail in the wings and fins, excelent job... And as for color or no color, I'd say color works good, not that no color doesn't, but color seems better.

Who am I to deny that  :P
Here we have Bodacher, back in the old days, selling his wares to the citizens. Only this time, he traded his barrel for a table.

Does anyone have any pointers on how to draw hands? Hands are my main problem as it is.
Title: Re: Proglin's Art
Post by: Anne Ominous on June 29, 2006, 02:19:35 pm
First tip: hands have four fingers & a thumb, not 5 fingers & a thumb
To get a better general idea for the features of your hand (if i had a scanner this would be far easier...) an easy way to start is to trace the contour of your [non-drawing] hand a few times each way; [most with your palm down for easier tracing] fingers spread, fingers together, fingers together thumb out, closed fist, closed fist thumb out, closed fist pointing, any other general position you want to get the hang of, then keeping that hand next to your sheet, fill in the details as best you can, then flip your hand & use one of the doubles you made of same position--both sides have same contour...  this will give you a good idea of the features to cover... If you meant for your klyros drawing for example, you would be wise to start from pointing finger, then thumb, after that just use 1 almost straight line each for  middle finger ring finger pinky, don't be afraid to make each finger shorter than the other (in the order i said) because if they seem short they can easily show from the other side [ http://www.anderson1.k12.sc.us/schools/wres/pta/Chicks%20with%20Checkbook%20images/Hand%20art.gif ]
Some preffer to keep the middle finger longer, as it should be if rendering, or looking from an appropriate prespective; but the angle your klyros suggests the middle finger would look shorter, or at least be partly curled (as is the natural state for most fingers http://www.eyetap.org/~samyip/home/artWorks/drawings/hand.jpg ) and thus start as a single line on the outside, and end inside from the pointing one.

Hope I've been more helpful than i was confusing...

I got caught! After many many people saw the drawing... finally one notices Bod has 5 fingers AND a thumb! Shucks...

And thanks for your tips. Drawing hands in detail, in large, is do-able. The main problem I have is scaling them down, and let the ammout of detail be equal to the rest of the drawing. Thanks for your tips though. I'll be sure to keep them in mind.

I actually thought this one was pretty sweet! I'd love to have one of these as a pet/pipe lighter. It's about the size of a chicken, it makes flameburst look like a matchstick and if it falls down, it seems to be doomed till eternaty cause of the lack of arms. Other then that... it just makes me say Awwwwwwwww.

I would keep away from using RL references to lizards. just because. Anyways, you already know i love the little guy, and i'd love to have him as a pet. The drawing is great, i can see his/her personality in the picture. Anyways, draw some Enkis and Kran, and all the rest. i know you said you can't draw Ylian, but come on.. just try it.  ;)

But without futher delay, and cause I promised you all... an Enkidukai!!!

This here is Satayne, he asked for black armour, but I liked the white one a lot more, so I decided to keep it white. Even kitties like ale, you see?

I saw a lot of GREAT stuff on this art section, Most of them are drawings, sketches and Modifications. I would personally like to see some fancy hand-made stuff inspired or about PS. Think of Groffel Pinjata's, Dolls, stuffed fenki's and whatnot. This map here was created for a game that's still in progress, and is inspired by PS for the most part. Made it with a friend of mine with whom I'm still trying to get that card/3-d board game working. Enjoy, and I hope to see some more handy-work in PS-style.

WOW Proglin!

Proglin: That cart is awesome! :)

...just a minor point about the shafts to harness it up to a beast of burden of some sort - they are too straight like a steel pipe or rod is straight, and need to be curved slightly, and given some thickness and thinness variation - 'though I understand that would make the mesh for that part of your cart far more complex...

Man, I can just sooo see such carts ambling along the Ojaveda Road and the Bronze Doors Region road, perhaps in the hands of travelling NPC Merchants ... .. . -and we, as players, could flag them down and trade with them..

- nice, nice, nice, NICE !

I may be wrong, but it looks like there are no textures and the pure meaning of this word ;> Otherwise it is looking very nice, only as for model for PS it need to have much lower polycount.
And we need an animal which could pull this cart :P

Keep the critisizm coming guys,

For the record.... This wagon is without any texturing at all. Currntely I'm learning about UV mapping and texturing... slooow progress cause of a busy shedule, but in time it'll come.

As for the creature pulling it... That one is coming up as well. Frankly, I think the creature will be finished before the textures.

About the wooden bars which keep the cloth in the right shape as he roof.
There are 3 of them "U" shaped but upside-down and one at the top which join them all.
The cenral "U" should be lower than the two other and the wooden bar which connect them should touch every of them or go through half of the mesh diameter. Then you can create vertices which will join the "U" shaped bar with the connecting bar, or leave it as it as and while UV mapping, make the texture so that it will hide the unwanted effect as much as it is possible.
There should be eighter rope or something in the texture part which will be at the area where wooden bars are connecting.

And decrease the poly count before you start texturing ;P Of course only if you are going to try it to get it in game.

/me smiles.

Hey, be as nit picky as possible I'd say :) I'm trying to learn Blender and modling. And a good way to do so is start out making mistakes, such as Nikodemus pointed out, and work on those. The construction and mechanics of a wagon are pretty tough to model straight away, so I altered it slightly in order to simplyfy it as much as I can so I could learn the basics faster. This wagon will end up being deleted and then I'll start over again.

Truth be told, it look great according to me on the pic, but if you see the .blend file you'll go  :'(
It's a mess :D

Continue nitpicking my friends, I learn from it.

[Sorry for double posting.... again]

Wow.... it's been quite a while since I placed some new "art". Time to put up some more I say! hope you enjoy it :)

Don't be surprised if you see this critter flying right over your head straight to the next branch in the forest just outsie of Hydlaa. This flying lizard is a comon creature that's fairly harmless, unless you are a bug.

Yet another forest creature. This is good game for hunters, and if you find one with antlers as big as these, concider yourself lucky. Brado was looking for one of these to decorate his not-so-decorated tavern and I heard he'd pay some goooood trias for it.

And blendering again... this one has an acceptable poly count, but still needs some fnishing touches. I figured out, tht I'm hopeless with texturing :S but am trying really hard to get the hang of it still.

Here's something I made with blender as well, andI proudly call it: The Ikea Fence (tm) They are loose fence parts that are assmebeled as you please later on, thus creating an endless variety of fences. Here I like the textures, but that's because it's all square. I can handle square. Organic is what is the problem at the moment.

Hope you had some fun at least. Will be back with some more later on :D

Shweet. You should learn how to make character models, and then import them to the devs to put into the game. that'd be sweet. nice work, prog
