Title: Console Idea
Post by: Zeckrest on June 02, 2006, 04:17:41 pm
Havnt been on for awhile,playing a new game I got,Im hooked:P

Anyway down to business,I think that planeshift could make an exellent game for DS PSP PS2 PS3 XBOX XBOX 360 NINTENDO WII GAMECUBE (Yes i know my systems Well in latest stuff:P).I can see it on systems where your a certain character, who will have a story... :P i have idea's,but thats upto the makers imaginations:P
I think it would sell well, and you could get funds for your hard work. DS could have Wifi connection PS2 ect online connections anyway, what does anyone else think.

Funds is an awkward word :} We certainly don't want to charge anyone for anything, and never will. It's hard enough developing on the PC platform - and I think that taking on even more of them wouldn't make for efficient development.

Still, if money will have to come into play, which it most certainly will, this idea is a no-go.

Erh, how to chat?
And I thought that PS was open-source, if they would put it on console then it couldn't be open source and many players would stop playing it because then you would have to pay for it.

I think this could be a possibility although probably never happen but....
With most consoles having a hard drive and keyboard attachments it could work. If the user user cant download and burn and copy to the console hard drive then a disk could be sold for minimal cost, lets say $5.. or so for packaging and shipping.

No way am I paying for a game ever again. I payed $65 for Runescape members...I swear that was the worst time I'd ever had. At first it was fun, but the community was really immature, the gameplay just got boring, and everything (even mini-games) were nothing but powerleveling in some way or form. From then I swore never to pay for an online game again, if you get bored with it, you're screwed.

PlaneShift is supposed to be an MMO :} Making it into a single-player game is like making a separate game. There are a ton of single-player games out there, for PCs and for Playstations and XBoxes and all of that loveliness - but that's not what we are working with, because we like working on a PC MMORPG. Changing the goals of our entire project isn't an attractive option at all.

Porting to a console is simply not going to happen.  Theoretically we could charge $20 or so, just enough to appease Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo.  However, we'd have to go through all sorts of messes to get the thing on a disk and then updating would be a nightmare.  Yeah, every next-gen console is going to have a hard drive, but that doesn't mean updates aren't going to suck.  We'd never have the money needed to even convince a console maker to let us do anything, and regardless, Crystal Space is most certainly not going to work on one.  Pick your reason; it ain't happening.  PS is a PC game, and always will be.  (though, "PC" includes Linux and Mac, and frankly a modded XBox could probably be hacked into running it if you really wanted to ;) )

im sorry to say that your idea is one of total stupidness.  i own an xbox 360 and honestly, i don't think ps will ever make it on any of the consoles. a few reasons of my conclusion are:
1: lots of other good rpg's (well not LOTS) but take the elder scrolls: the game is very similar to ps, and much better(DONT FLAME ME!)
2: ps cant compete with bigbugdet games for the next gen consoles.
3:  you cant even bring it to the consoles without permission of microsoft...

* Laragorn looks up..... not even gonna touch that one

In no way was i sugesting PS become a stand alone single player game. I didnt explane what i meant. With all system having network adapters, it would still be the same as it is now. As for updates, once online all updates could be downloaded and installed.
Like I said before, it aint gonna happen but it is something that could be done.
