I would like to see some sort of passage between the water, under, and over realms, that is easily accesible. without a lot of walking. maybe a magic feather that jumps to cities previously visited. something.
-
magic feather?
you ripped that straight off of Quest 64. Shame on you.
-
actually they were not feathers. they were different colored wings that took you to different towns/cities. :D
-
NO PORTALS!
You should HAVE to travel between cities. Either by walking, or by riding a horse or by flying.
If you could just \"teleport\" beetween the cities it should be easy as pie to trade, there should be no ambushs, no horses, no adventure.
It would ruin all the fun! It\'s kinda like \"Zelda: majoras mask\" where you could just play a song and in the next second you were on the other side of the world.
This is fantasy, medival type and there should be no portals X(
-
since when do fantasy games have limits on ideas? anything is possible.
but I will agree with one thing. forms of instant traveling from place to place will greatly reduce road travel.
but how about this: There could e a kind of instant travel service, but only at certain times of the day. that way there will be times when people must travel on foot, and there will be times when they can get to places quicker if they wished.
-
Wouldn\'t all players walk/ride/fly at the same time then? And wouldn\'t all players teleport at a specific time at the day? ?(
Traveling IS important, and I don\'t think there should be a way to just travel a thousand miles away in a moment.
As I said, this is medival fantasy, not sci-fi. (magic, yes I know)
Ideas is ok, but you don\'t always have to like them ;)
-
The feather idea is not a Quest what ever number idea. It is something commonly used as transport in manga and other anime of fantasy nature. A perfect example is Dragon Slayers back in the late 70s. They used a feather to warp to places.
-
just make them pay money or give items to get through the portal, it\'d solve that problem
-
NOOOOOO!!! NEVER!! NEVER, YOU HEAR ME?! NEVER!!!!!
Er, ahem, I don\'t think we should have teleporting. If there has to be something which is instant travel, it should be using pterasaurs and mega-somethings. And they should only be able to go to towns that you have already been to. Got it?
Traveling on foot should be necessary. And I hate the idea of paying a guy to teleport you. (no offense.) This is done in many games, and its really annoying, because it\'s frustrating to know that some beggar on the street will accept 10 gold to teleport you somewhere when you can\'t even teleport across the screen. It\'s also unrealistic -- how powerful is that guy anyway? If he is good enough at magic to be teleporting people all day without rest, shouldn\'t he be in charge of the world by then?
So, no teleporting please. If you must, then there should be some kind of machine near the crystal which you step into the use, and only near the crystal, not all over the place in other towns. IF you must.
-
Well, I mean, what if you need to go to one town on the other side of the world, and then it ends up you have to go back to the one you just left? All I know is that I wouldn\'t want to do that :D
Although I guess if you were rich enough you could have transport, but I doubt I\'ll be rich :P
-
What about like a Portal Stone or a spell that a mage can cast on occassion that can have him easily open a portal somewhere, but he has to be \'tied\' there.
-
The feather was actually from Dragon Warrior on the NES. There could be limited portals or items. They would have to be high cost. Walking gives a chance for more exp. but it can be soooooo boring. Personally I would most likely walk most of the time, it\'s just nice to have the option.
-
Funny how people try to limit an item to one area. The feather is not from one thing but many things. Nintendo didn\'t make it up they just used it from old fantasy magnas. Can\'t say who it was that originaly made the first teleportation with a feather but it was done older than I am.... and thats old....
-
No, if you could teleport directly from the crystal everybody would build a house near the crystal. The biggest city in the world would be the PC created
\"crystal cities\" where everybody wanted to live because there was a teleporter there.
What do you think horses and other riding-creatures is for if there\'s teleporters which teleports you directly to another place a thousand miles away in one second?
YOU DON\'T HAVE TO WALK!! HIGH-LEVEL PLAYERS COULD BUY A DRAGON OR A HORSE OR SOMETHING!
NO PORTALS!! X(
BTW. I think that the \"feather\" thing is very old, and it comes from the Japanese mythology.
It\'s older than both \"anim?\" and \"Nintendo\".
-
Yes I think it\'s fair to say the feather came from japanese mythology... thats where a lot of fantasy conceptes come from.
Many people believe that Tolkien invented middle earth. Ever wonder why so many games are set in a place called \'Midgard\"?
Midgard, in Norse mythology is the realm, or plane that mortals lived on (there were about 8 different planes). Midgard, translated into english is \"Middle Earth\".
And I agree: NO PORTALS
-
Midgar is also the name used for what the norsemen called home.. Like the Vikings and such lived in a land called Midgar before it became known as Iceland.... Also in Midgar is where the troll originated... It was believe in Midgar mythology that the land was actually a sleeping giant. This giant was of the earth and gave bearth to a race of creatures that were also of the earth. Big brutal looking stone creatures called trolls.
-
How about a warp gate at like each end of the world.. Like if you think of earth a gate at the north pole to the south pole and thats all for warping that why you could travel across the world but you would still have to walk/fly or whatever to get around
-
But what would be \"the end of the world\" then? The surface?
well, that\'s even worse, because you can teleport from the highest level to the lowest in a second.
Then you should go from a jungle to a land full of ice when you stepped into the portal.
I don\'t think that\'s an good idea...sorry.
NO LONG-DISTANCE PORTALS! One of the great things in an MMORPG is to TRAVEL!!
-
BUUUU NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS NO PORTALS PORTALS SUX MMORPG LOOOL if it relly is a mmorpg THERE WILL BE NO PORTALS
-
this thread is getting out of hand.
P.S. THERE MUST BE PORTALS! :P
-
Aelya\'s right, there\'s no need to spam like that
The fact is, although some of YOU might like to travel for hours and do things such as that, some people do not (I do not because I usually cannot spend much time on the computer at one time or my 56k will boot me for no reason at all)
-
A big part of Massively Multiplayer games, is to make a massive world. Portals are a good way to make the world a lot smaller.
My opinion is somewhere in-between \"portals\" and \"no portals\". While I really enjoy travel, and think it is a big part of MMORPG\'s, I understand that others dont.

I think that 56 k modem should be forbidden
It\'s not the developers fault that your modem sux :D I don\'t think you can play the game with a 56k modem anyway...
