Title: [RP]The Naming of Zorbels Sword.
Post by: zorbels on June 13, 2006, 08:27:48 pm: I thought I would share this moment with everyone as I felt really honored to have one of my swords named by friends. Thank you all for your participation and it will be one of my happier memoriers in Yliakum. (I have the perrmission of everyone in this log to post it other than Rhonymous as I am having a hard time tracking him down. If that is a problem, I will agree to delete the thread.)

Proglin says: Hey Zorbs? Do you still got that longsword i gave you?
Zorbels nods "Yup it is my favorite."
Satayne says: she will not part with it
Proglin grins
Satayne says: I tried to talk her out of it once
Zorbels grins back
Proglin says: Come on friends of Zorbels! What name would suit that iron longsword?
Easton starts to organize his pack distracted ...
Zorbels says: "The first kill to that sword by my hand was an ulber."
Zorbels thinks back with a dreamy look
Satayne rubs his chin thoughtfully
Proglin grins "What did you loot on that ulber?"
Satayne says: perhaps "Heart of Fear"?
Zorbels thinks "I do believe a heart."
Satayne looks startled and drops his jaw slightly
Proglin laughs
Zorbels says: "Now is that fate Sir Easton?"
Zorbels looks shocked "S..satayne wasn't with me at all the day I killed an ulber for the first time with that sword. So he couldn't have known that I looted an ulber heart, as I had not spoken with him that night."
Proglin says: I gave her the sword, Satayne named it, and memories already fill the sword with strength...
Zorbels looks around to everyone meeting each persons eyes 'What do you think?"
Satayne says: It is a sword to be feared after all ...
Proglin says: Heart of Fear....
Rhonymous says: It IS a good name!!!
Easton finishes organizing his pack and begins to listen again
Illori smiles
Proglin says: I dubt thou sword, HEART OF FEAR!!!!!

/me remembers an arcane ceremony that will bind the name to the sword. rather then merely calling it that.

As a weapon collector, I know a thing or two about this. A weapons name is Tied to a persons heart and his heart alone. In real life, I fight with swords as well, for 10 years now, And out of 16 swords, only one has been named. So quite a lot must happen before a sword gets his name.

There is no need to tie a name to a weapon, and "simply" naming one does no exisit. Once a weapon has earned it's name, and in the end, gets the name, it is tied already.

I got it as a gift from Proglin about four days after the big weapon wipe. I was a little sad about my ulber sword being gone and I had the worst streak of luck as I had also lag sold my new ss /10 (First lag sell I might add) that satayne had just given me. Proglin tired to cheer me up and gave me this beautiful long sword now known as the Heart of Fear.

/me takes forth his mage staffs and let's them play in the garden with heart of fear, silverweave spidersilk short sword and silverweave short sword of the defender while he chats with zorbels about bugs *wink*

Why is the sword's name "Heart of Fear" instead of "Sword of Fear," since the sword isn't a heart? I know you looted a heart, but it should only be a feared sword because you took out an ulbernaut, not because you looted a heart.

By Satayne saying "Heart of Fear" before Zorbels said she looted a heart, it sounds like you made a script before the RP actually happened, even though you say it wasn't planned.

Sorry for the criticizm, but it seems like there's a huge chunk of other RP chat you left out of the log. You said you really enjoyed the RP, but it only lasted about a minute or two according to the log itself.

He didn't. Did you even read the log? That was part of the reason why this short little roleplay was unique to me.

I had just logged on to planeshift, and I walked into the plaza to find satayne, proglin, illori, easton, Rhonymous, and a few others talking about someone else's swords being named. I don't know ask satayne, it was him that came up with the name. Maybe because he thought of the "Heart of Fear" and not "Sword of fear". I can't help but feel this question is rather silly.

No it doesn't suno, it is called a coincidence. One of the reason I thought this roleplay was great because it just happened on the spot. We were all shocked and laughed about it afterwards when satayne said heart of fear, then moments later I said an ulbers heart. That is WHAT made the story unique besides it just happening on the spot, HENCE why I shared it

I did enjoy the roleplay thank you very much, and there was more to the roleplay than what I posted so the log being a couple of minutes log really isn't the issue. I took the important part out, and decided to share it (I did fix some of the sentances to make the log read like a short story but not much was done except filling in a missing word or two).

My whole thoughts on your post in general is you have way to much time on your hands.

Yes! actually I have a twin to the "Heart OF Fear," I just recieved it today from Proglin as a wedding gift. The name to the twin sword is called "Soul of hope" for reasons that I cannot share. Just know that the sword has earned its name, and will forever be ulber hunting sword. So anyone that wants to go ulber hunting let me know, I am always up for the hunt. =D
