Title: Mosquito ringtones!
Post by: Efflixi Aduro on June 15, 2006, 03:52:59 am
so apparently theres sounds that adults cant hear that kids and teenagers cant

i didnt belive it but i went on this site that had them for sale and a previewed it

im 17 so i guess im getting too old for it because i can only hear some of them but I called my mom into the room and she couldnt hear any

my little sister could hear all of them too

so basicly the idea is to have one as your ringtone so in class your phone will ring and your teacher wont know so heres the website if you wanna check it out jsut keep clicking on mosquito tones till it gives you the list of the different ones then try em out =]

I can't hear 19,000 or 20,000. Wierdness. I honestly didn't beleive it, and I was ready to flame away. It's true, I'm sad to say. This is the definition of odd. >o)

I think it has more to do with your audio system then your hearing.  I can hear past 18khz on my headphones, but I couldn't hear it on these particular speakers - though I could percieve it.

I recently had my hearing tested and I was told that I have no significant hearing loss, but I know that my hearing has been damaged and I have lost some upper range.  Loud rock concerts and band practices have been a major villian... don't be a fool, protect your hearing!

Is it really so odd?

Strange. I'm eighteen and I could hear all of them. My sister's twelve and she could only hear some of them. From that, I think it's more of a personal thing, depending on your hearing and speakers.

I'm 18 and could hear every one of them on my right ear but couldn't hear any of them on my left. I've tested and my left stops at 12000.

Uh...yeah...all this has to do with is hearing loss.  I guess generally the older you are the more likely you are to have damaged your hearing, but technically it doesn't have to do with age.  So unless you know each of your teacher's individual hearing ranges...it's a bust.  Though I guess if you really really want to annoy someone it wouldn't be bad for that.

Wow, I could only hear up to 17,000; even though I'm 20, I've always been able to hear high-pitched sounds (dog whistles, etc).
It doesn't take too long listening to one to give me a headache, though... especially the mosquito ringtone clip.  With that for my ringer, I doubt it'd take long before people just stop calling  ;D

You could also test the teachers hearing the other way, play a ringtone and another until she/he reacts, then you know at what hrz she/he reacts and can set it after that. You only need one try cause once you've found your teacher's range she will surely hear it at least once.
