Title: WC 2006
Post by: Waylander on June 15, 2006, 08:13:38 pm
England is through to the final 16 \o/

What a terrible came though, bloody Crouch and Lampard, what the hell.

I mean, sure Crouch scored in the last minutes but, come on, you see the ones that he missed.  And Lampard was just terrible, not surprising though, he is on Chelsea :D

And that shot by Gerard, what a rocket and the curve...my god.

Beckham actualy played too, if we play like we did in the last few minutes of the game, we'll be set for the Cup :D

Now, all we need to do is rip apart sweden, they're the last team we can play like this against.

apart from Sweden being one of our boogey teams (iirc we haven't beaten them for 30 odd years) I'd agree with you

You're all wrong! The Dutch will prevail! (I bet on them, so they better do).
And the trainer of the aussies is actually a Dutch spy, moewhahaah! (I'm serious, he's Dutch).
We also have a spy on Korea, another dutchman.
We rule the football world!  ;D

lol they are all from wierd countrts but tjhey represent australia so ill suport them.

always stick up for your own ppl no matter what (even if they where born in dutchanese)

too me soccer is a girks sport with the players pretending to be hurt when they get tripped over (what a disgrace :( )

in rugby leage they dont wear padding (unlike americans ) and they get tackled all the time (unlike soccer) but noooo they dont cry and lie on the ground after being truly hurt.

that tacticc is the most disgracefull, girly, pussy arsed as[ect and most iohumande bull poo i will ever watch thats why i dpot watch the girtls game
Title: Re: WC 2006
Post by: ThomPhoenix on June 15, 2006, 09:00:57 pm
Yeah, the pretending to be hurt stuff is pretty stupid, really good players don't do that luckily.
And eh, Dutch people come from The Netherlands, not dutchanese
Title: Re: WC 2006
Post by: Waylander on June 15, 2006, 09:29:44 pm
The sad thing is it's become part of the game to pretend well.  I mean, I imagine hitting knees together is possibly the most hurtful thing that can happen often, but, if somebody kicks you in the shin don't grab your face in pain :P

I love Rugby too.  Football( soccer) is still my favorite sport though.

Girls' sport? Er... I'm going to disagree with that. Soccer might look wussy, with plenty of faked injuries, but foot-eye coordination is one of the hardest things I've ever tried.  On the other hand, I'm not happy with how dirty the game has become, especially after a friend started telling me about all the tricks in the middle of the night, while we were watching Argentina beat Ivory Coast.

I might get jumped for saying this.. but I think the US was cheated in the match vs Italy.  Mastroeni did not deserve a Red card.. a yellow yes with a warning but not a red... He was disqualified for a studs up tackle?  Come on.  The Italian player was DQed for a flagerant foul.. he should have been Red carded... and Im not gonna argue Pope.. because he already had one yellow. But the US was put in a position to tie or lose the game.  All the announcers, even the Italian ex coach or player (cant remember) on ESPN said the American team didnt win becuase of the refs.  They need to let the players play the game.  America was put at a 9-10 disadvantage for nearly the entire second half.. and we still pulled out a tie.  If only Mcbride would have not been offsides.. that Beasley goal would have counted and there would be no controversy.

@Valbrandr- i agree the ref was pretty bad, and he has been suspended from being in last world cup, and there were bad calls on both sides of the field, but the US didn't play extraordinary or anything.. The only goal we did get was because italy put it in themselves and we got lucky. I think getting a draw with Italy is really a win. But yeah, i felt like i was kind of ripped off by seeing a 9 v 10 for the second half.

My pick is......... bah, i don't know, i just like seeing everyone go crazy. But i bet someone will get killed over it! buh.. thats sad..

Yeah, the only thing I would add.. is that if that Italian player hadnt kicked it in, the US had a guy in position (Mcbride I think).. But I will agree.. the US atleast deserved a tie.. but no more terrible refs.. I heard a good quote after the game

"Players win the game, Coaches lose the game, and referees ruin the game"

Well, if there's one thing I can tell you for sure, then it is that the Dutch team won't become world champion. By the way: I can't remember the time when there was a Dutch world champion.... oh, wait, of course not, because there never was. ;D
They were quite close, though, in 1974 and 1978, but the Dutch were stopped by Germany (which, by the way, will hopefully win this time) or Argentinia respectively. And to finally shatter you hopes, I'll just mention that both Germany and Argentinia are there this time, too, ready to prevent the Dutch team from becoming world champion.

That's it, so far. Good night, and good luck!

So...Are you being serious at all? The dutch just came out of a group also known as the poule of death. I can't say much good about the poule germany was in, a broken Poland and some south american country nobody put hope in anyway. The dutch are already through, we survived so that means it can only get easier from now on considering we beaten both a very strong Ivory Coast and strong defending (at least for our match) Serbia & Montenegro. We'll see what happens tommorow in the match against Argentine. If we beat them then i'll keep an eye out on Holland if I were you.

We're already though to the next round, Argentina wasn't able to stop us! We still have to play against them and I think it's going to be a nice match, but even if we win I don't care, because we're still through!
And you know the Dutch just own the entire football world right? The reason we haven't won for a while is because of this conspiracy of all the other football countries against us.
And to add: Germany is going DOWN!

Yes, the "poule of death", what a nice, frightening name... But serious: It's pure exaggeration. Up to now neither Ivory Coast nor Serbia + Montenegro did win at least one match in this group, showing that they aren't really a threat (not even to Holland, I may add;)). The only real opponent in this group is Argentinia, and they won't make it too easy for the Dutch to win. So if you call a group with one strong team (Argentinia) a "poule of death", well...

Quote
We're already though to the next round, Argentina wasn't able to stop us!
The Dutch did not even play against them yet, but you are right: no matter who wins the match today, Argentinia or the Dutch, the Dutch team is in the next round, the round of 16.

Looks like someone has a grudge against Dutch people. Maybe we should get some stats for you to better understand. The dutch are ranked 3rd in the Fifa ranking, Argentina 9th and Germany 19th. That's the rankings counted in points won by playing all the matches through the year. At one point Holland was ranked 2nd. Holland won more matches against Argentine then matches lost.

Ow and I didnt call it the poule of death, thats what the media calls it. If you compare this poule to the other crappy poules where uber soccer country's are put in a group with 3rd-world country's then yes you can call it "the poule of death". And if you read the newspapers instead of watching europort reruns of matches from 1974, you might knew some more about the current teams.
I'm not saying Germany or Argentina can't win the world cup, but don't go around dissing Holland cause our team isnt that bad.

Wrong, I don't have a grudge against Dutch people. I just expressed my opinion that it's quite unlikely that the Dutch team will win the world cup, not more, not less. I don't see any kind of grudge in that.

Ah, yes the ranking.... Let me just reply to this with a quote:
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." - Benjamin Disraeli
The FIFA ranking might -to some extent- also count as statistics in the above meaning.
Although this is a bit exaggerated in general, the FIFA ranking in particular has some "issues" which are not so good for a ranking. For example if one team often wins against (very) weak teams, it can get quite a high ranking, though it is not really quite as good as other teams with a similar position on the list. For example, USA is currently on the 5th, but (nothing against USA) is the US team really better than Spain, Portugal, France, Argentina and England (ranked 6th to 10th)? ;)

Another issue is that countries, which host international events (like Germany in this year), don't participate in matches to qualify themselves for these events, because they are set as participant from the very beginning. Thus they don't have so much possibilities to gain points for that ranking, which can lead to a lower rank. ;)

The refs were being totally unfare to both teams. U.S didnt deserve the red card and Italy was stupid enough to score on themselves :o I say that both teams played like crap that day  Italy better not play like that again or else.......Ima Gonna Cry  :'(

Okay, this world rankings are the worst rankings in any sport ever.. hell in any thing!  Please, stop mentioning them.

I'll put it in way that MMORPGs can understand.

1 guy kills a dragon, hardest creature in the game BUT he is ranked lower because

ZOMG

one guy

he killed two rats!!!

The weakest creatures in the game but...there were two of them!!! O.o

European countries (Some of the best in the world) play each other most often.

Whereas the states (ranked 5th) play North and Central American countries, and, I love Canada, but Canada just isn't as good as say, France.

On the topic of the states though, yeah, that was easily the worst called match I've seen in ages but, no matter how fair the refing had been, they were lucky to get away with the tie.

http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statistics/index/0,2548,23914-Feb-2006,00.html <---Concacaf (USA, Canada, Mexico)
http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statistics/index/0,2548,27275-Feb-2006,00.html <---UEFA (Europe)

I LOVE soccer, but the ranking system is an insult to anything it is related to.

I agree with you, Waylander. A change should be made to the global ranking system. Sweden has gone even with world teams as England but they're still on 14th place ad England's got a better chance against Brazil(which is, of course world #!) but they're ranked 10. It's a bit messed up, that's all i'm saying.

In the match about 4 red cards and about 17 yellow cards were handed out, it was a pretty tough match. But The Netherlands got some cards which they didn't deserve, there was a lot of faking injuries on Portugal's side. We also had some missed opportunities. What a shame, I really have the feeling we could've won.  :(

Since I belive I am the only portuguese planeshift player around... GO PORTUGAL!!!!  \\o// \\o// \\o//

But as a side note, all Dutch and Sweedish are more than welcome in my home town! We loved you guys in the Euro! You were great supporters and, opposite to the usual English supporters, you behaved like real nice people!

And besides, all nice tall blonde boys are welcome here!

P.S.: The game was a disaster... But the refery, although good, was a bit harsh. In 25 faults, there was 20 cards... :P

ahh well the socceroos did their best and im proud of them.

what im not proud of is the amount of fights that broke out afterwards, that was a disgrace.  Around the casino floor there was blood everywhere on the floor from so many fights.  i was pushing and pulling each other away and there where no italians in sight.

it made me sad in so many ways, im sick of people fighting each other.  I shook this italian guys hand and said if you win ill buy you a beer but he might have gotten bashed and i never saw him after that.

it was good though in the pub at first aussies everywear wearing flags as capes and stuff and singing aussie songs.  then it was police cars and cleaners cleaning up blood

So im not a happy one today.

Oh, right, Lampard.  He is still sucking, Jekkar, you think that will change?

But yeah, Rooney kind of spoon fed him.

Are the refs always as bad as they have been in this WC?  Did anyone get to see the penalty in teh Italy game?  Wow, they are terrible. Refs should never decide the outcomes of games.. At first I thought they might be bad in the US games... but it seems like its everyones games.  I would fire them all.

Many things to say about that match.

We'll start with Portugal.... They can't play fair one bit. Seriously, someone looks are Figo and he's on the ground rolling and fighting to stay alive. Ronaldo dives at every chance he gets, and then looks on in disbelief when an England player did the same.

Rooney's red card. How on earth did he diserve that, im pretty sure that the ref blew for a foul in his favour before the card. If he was sent of for pushing Ronaldo thats out of order, where was Ronaldo's punishment what right did he have to be protesting about that.. he was on the other side of the pitch. If the card was given for 'stamping' there's no way it was intentional, he played fantasically to keep the ball with two players hacking at his legs.

The ref also made many other poor and bias decisions.

Peter Crouch. He is a legend. He played brilliantly after being bought on, wherever the ball came up to him he was there doing something about it. If only Sven would have bought him on earlier....

After their performance there was no way in the slightest that Portugal deserved the win. England played fantasticly with 10 men.

/salute England.

Yes, I am agreeing with Cadoras.

I agree with Drey (wow), and stop protecting your own team Minetus because thats what you've been doing for ages now. The stomp in the balls was an accident, no man would do that to another man on the field ( except for Materazzi). We all know the referee's suck in this WC and todays ref sucked again.

No, England played fairly the whole match(maybe one dive from Crouch but i dont think he's actually clever enough to think up doing something like that.)

Portugal dive non stop. Ronaldo got Rooney sent off (old trafford will be an interesting place now :p).

Portugal - Germany would be a very poor match in my, extremely good, opinion. I'd much rather Italy go through, and win against Brazil.

Sorry to say this, Drey, but you are acting like a morron. I said I'd like to have both teams because I'd be happy if any of them won. It has nothing to do with the quality of the gaming, it's personal reason since I am a portuguese with a german heart. And acting like a mighty god in knowing football is non-sense. If you all want to express your opinions do so, just try to be polite when doing so, and actually look the way others post. I was not trying to be superior to anyone, as you are doing now.

How can we be lying about something thats caught on tv? Figo acted and C. Ronaldo winked. Its the same thing like the German players did with the referee in the Germany-Sweden match when they asked for a red card for a swede ( I think it was Lucic) and the Swede recieved it with a smile from the referee, then some seconds after a german player gave the referee a pat on the back for doing a "good job". There are lots of teams acting and playing foul to win a game and your team is no exception Minetus. Maybe you don't remember your team's fouls and acting because your too cheerfull and happy for your team when the game is in progress. But the people who lose the match often see the foul play the winning team made.

Meh, I mean granted, everybody fakes, and yeah, the refs are...terrible this World Cup.  But, during the whole world cup, I haven't seen anything as bad as the Portugese playing.

Portugal - Germany would be a terrible match.  Germany is the home team and so the refs will call a little in their favour and Portugal is ... the oscar winning team.  That's all.

And when the day comes that Cadoras and Drey agree on something...there is no way that it is wrong.  The only other thing we really agree upon is each others age :P 18 \o/

Anyways, all I'm saying is it's a terrible World Cup (France-Spain has been the only match worth watching...maybe France-Korea imho) and Portugal is the worst of a very bad group.

Funny thing... Portugal is the worse team ever, they fake, the are bad players, etc etc etc... But we did went to the finals in the Euro and we are for the very first time in the semi-finals...

Bad referries, bad faults, no fair-play does not explain that, hum?... Something I hate more than anything in football is, as soon as a team is winning, everyone hates the said team.

I am very proud of my team. Whatever bad they have done, they have prooved themselves by making history in our country. Everyone did their mistakes and their good things. You are all taking the credit of Portugal team, and that is unfair! Remembering a team just for the bad is like saying the Planet Earth should be destroyed because some people made crap. In Portugal people are remembering the English team not for the kick in the balls, but as a good match. Do not be so parcial...

All teams deserve to win, all teams are good and bad. Well, except one that is out already...  :whistling:

My money is on France aswell.

And Helm, you have to understand that... well... I mean sure, every team fakes, and every ref makes a bad call but this World cup has been terrible in such a way that there are tons of fakes and tons of bad calls.

And every country does have it's own little reputation, which is almost always well deserved.  I don't know England's, because I'm English and don't listen to anything bad said about them :P.  But Italy and Portugal are both very known for faking.  France, for instance, is known for complaining (and great football), Spain dabbles in both, German used to be known for overly rough football.

Portugal did great in Euro, but it was on their own ground and there was alot of controversy over most of their games.  Portugal is doing very well in the World Cup but, the England - Portugal game was a terrible game.  There were many fakes by both teams, Portugal just made more...and worse ones.  (And Ronaldo looks like a brat :P)

yes i must admit as much as i like the french tey do complain a little to much but i kinda feel bad for them cause all the refs they have had have been so bad. like the handball in the switzerland game and the one shot that that SK goalie got the ball in the goal. but i do agree that soccer is getting less and less fun to watch cause very few times you will see a game were they play the game and dont fowl all the time.

Waylander, I have no problem in people saying that the Portuguese team fakes a little bit too much. It's ok, it's a stereotype, bad, but I can't fight it because they do... What made me mad in the previous posts of other people is the fact that they are taking away all credit Portugal deserves. And I find that very unfair. People should be a bit more "sporty" and be happy with everyone! :)

And as far as I remember, there was no such thing as contorversy in the Euro, except the huge problems we had with the Spanish supporters after they lost the game...  ;D But I was in my home country back then, so I got a parcial view out of it. :)

To tell you the truth, we have no very strong stereotype on football teams, except that Germany was playing very bad these last years, although they were extremly good years ago, and that the Italians fake a lot and sometimes the referie is a bit too much their friend... ;) Everyone here likes every team. You have to see we are a friendly country out here that loves football, no matter the nacionality of the said team. :)

And yes, Ronaldo looks like a brat, but he IS a brat. He is very young. But, contra the girls all over the world, I don't find the portuguese players either mature or pretty... :P I preffer a good german or a good swedish! LOL

People always complain about the referee when their favorite team loses. Of course there have been made quite a few clear mistakes, but most of the matches so far had adequate referees. Also, the refs were much worse the previous WC, so at least there is progression.

i think the refs give tooooooo many pointless red cards.
and this whole thread is why i live soccer... people get so defensive when someone bashes their home team. ;D hehe.  i think the refs should carry around pocket PC's that atomatically gets the replays sent to them instantly but then that might make the game boring.  just a thought.
but i do think that england should have won if only rooney chilled out a bit.  they didnt need beckham to win.(he is way overrated by the way.  dont get me wrong there he is very good but hes not the best)
in my opinion the top 5 players are as follows.
1  Ronaldihno
2  Henry
3  c. ronaldo
4  maybe ronaldo/ figo/ or even zidane(zidanes looked good schooling all those brazilians on saturday \\o//)

The great thing is how politics generally stay out. Case in point, Serbia and Montenegro voted to separate into two countries a day or two before the cup, yet they all played as one nation...

Truly a beautiful game! Remember Canada / USA vs. Russia in the 60's in hockey? You don't see that in the cup!

C. Ronaldo i swear goes down every 5 mins or so, or at least every time he gets in the penalty area.

Great Support for us Torik!

Forza gli Azzurri :-)
They didn't play the final as good as the semifinal, but still, it was a pleasure to see Cannavaro raising the cup!!!
