Nintendo Wii's console is the most original of the up-coming three. I mean it's true that Sony's PS3 and the XBOX360 have great visuals and physics but honestly gaming is just stagnating. I think all 3 have great games but if I were to choose one, I'd probably go with Nintendo's console. Already there are great games unveiled (Red Steel, Tony Hawk, Sports, Zelda, Spider-Man 3 [YEAH] and perhaps even a Star Wars lightsaber battle game). Also imagine the games that could be created/ported to the console. I'm thinking here TES IV: Oblivion- using the remote to cast spells as a staff or wand or to throw punches...
It has a great potential and it must be used... I'm two thumbs up for Weeeeee!
Edited for language.

I saw this demo where the player could actually fight with a sword using the 3d localizing technique used in the Wii controller. Realistic swordfighting in a game is so cool I would buy the Wii just for that. It's also cool you can now make real headshots!
-
XBOX 360 = All graphics, barely any good games. (Good game = good gamplay and story. Halo does not fall in this category)
PS3 = Expensive, more like a PC than a console. I'd rather buy a PC. No great upcoming games as far as I can see.
Wii = Not cutting edge graphics, but a original controller, promising games with some great gameplay. Cheap!
Wii gets the thumbs up for me!

Sounds good, i'll go with the flow.

I agree with Xordan. Also, about Wii's hardware, I read on IGN about this game developped for the console which is supporsed to have advanced physics... I hope there wont be a big difference between Nintendo's and Sony and Microsoft's GPUs and CPUs. The hardware specs of the machine haven't been released yet!
-
I love Nintendo so there's no way I'm not getting one.

I don't love ninendo.
I don't love the Wii.
I don't love the stats.
I don't love the versatility.
I don't care about the revolutionary controls.
I don't care about the pixels.
I don't care about Mario/Mariocart/Samus/Kirby/Fox McCloud/MarioTennis/MarioWHATEVER
I want my damn Zelda. Now gimme. >:(

YAY!

If I remember correctly it was Nintendo that said games should be shorter and less complex.
And for that, I will never support them.
Also...Oblivion is a horrible game. I'm sorry, but I just had to say that after having to watch my 3 roommates play it for the last few months..
-
I think the Wii is going to be just what Nintendo needs... a successful project to keep them alive... and thats what I think the Wii will be. If it did nothing else then the backwards compatability I would still buy it. And a possible FF game coming out on the console? Im sold.. Screw Microsoft and Sony...

I do have to agree, although I've ignored any statistics about the console wars for the first time in a while.
Nintendo formally dropping out of the console wars was a good move.

I can't remember they said that.
They did say that game developers should try new things to improve gameplay, to innovate instead of bringing out a game only with better graphics.
And I love 'em for it.
-
Wii all the way! Love the controller.
Spongebob is coming on it too!
And what's the current prize they are aiming at?

By "if I remember correctly" I pretty much meant I'm 99% certain they did and, thanks to google, found that yes...they did in fact say that...so yeah. Can you honestly say you support that?
-
lots of companies have said stupid things, while the industry was young.
wasnt it gates who said something like--- a home computer will never need more that 8 MB of ram ---???
so past statments are not always a good representation of a company today.

Did they? Well, must have been in a different situation, because their new games really aren't short and simple.

That quote was about pc's never needing more then 640kb and it wasn't Gates who said it, actually nobody knows who said it, buy many falsely contribute it to Bill Gates.

ok i overstated the amount but had the guy right.
"640K ought to be enough for anybody." — Bill Gates, 1981.

Kiern, Nintendo is right about one thing: game publishers force developpers to make crappy games cause of license or game sequels that are nothing more then the same game with slightly better graphics and new levels (which I must add are made of identical boxes and walls with different textures). Only a few developpers stand out, offering fresh experiences.
That being said, I also, would like to have complex games (RPGs, open-ended gameplay etc.) alongside the simple yet addictive and fun ones.

Believe me, he didn't say it. That quote is like an Urban Myth, everybody thinks he said it, but he really didn't.
I saw some heave discussions about the quote on some websites, and the eventual conclusion was that he didn't say it, unfortunately many quote website still have the quote in their database, especially stupid quote sites. But to conclude: he didn't say it, even better, in 1981 Microsoft was already busy with building software for the next generation of pc's with more memory than 640k. Bill gates isn't a smart guy sometimes, but he isn't stupid enough to have said that.
-
We could just send an email to bill.gates@microsoft.com and ask :P Or maybe it's william.gates@microsoft.com :P Try all the combinations.
-
Hehe, I used to work for Microsoft when I was in Dublin. His email account was in the Address book (I was soooo tempted to send a few emails  )
-
Thanks for the mail adresses Xordan, I sent Bill an email and he answered the following:
I've said some stupid things and some wrong things, but not that. No one involved in computers would ever say that a certain amount of memory is enough for all time.
The need for memory increases as computers get more potent and software gets more powerful. In fact, every couple of years the amount of memory address space needed to run whatever software is mainstream at the time just about doubles. This is well-known.
When IBM introduced its PC in 1981, many people attacked Microsoft for its role. These critics said that 8-bit computers, which had 64K of address space, would last forever. They said we were wastefully throwing out great 8-bit programming by moving the world toward 16-bit computers.
We at Microsoft disagreed. We knew that even 16-bit computers, which had 640K of available address space, would be adequate for only four or five years. (The IBM PC had 1 megabyte of logical address space. But 384K of this was assigned to special purposes, leaving 640K of memory available. That's where the now-infamous ``640K barrier'' came from.)
A few years later, Microsoft was a big fan of Intel's 386 microprocessor chip, which gave computers a 32-bit address space.
Modern operating systems can now take advantage of that seemingly vast potential memory. But even 32 bits of address space won't prove adequate as time goes on.
Meanwhile, I keep bumping into that silly quotation attributed to me that says 640K of memory is enough. There's never a citation; the quotation just floats like a rumor, repeated again and again.
When I told him he might be lying, he replied again fiercely:
No! That makes me so mad I can't believe it! Do you realize the pain the industry went through while the IBM PC was limited to 640K? The machine was going to be 512K at one point, and we kept pushing it up. I never said that statement-I said the opposite of that.
-
I can't believe you bothered to write fake mail.
-
Good job getting the answer. ( if it is real)
I still think he is a goof. lol ;D
My point was as I said before, sometimes people say the wrong things at the wrong time.
Example Henry Ford had some very Racial views and openly stated such, but that hasnt stoped most from buying his products.
-
I can say one thing for sure, though it was cliche by calling it the Revolution, i really wished that if they had to change the name...that they would not have called it the Wii and instated that whole gimic. :-\
-
Of course it was cliche, remember it was just a codename, and codenames tend to be weird and cliche like.
I agree "Wii" sounds pretty stupid, but we'll get used to it.
Remember people thought "Gamecube" was a strange and stupid name when it was announced, or what about "SNES" ::)
-
The "Snes" ,which i didnt realize was the abbreviation for Super Nintendo Entertainment System,
was what i thought it was actually called until about 4 years ago after i stopped trying to pronounce "SNES". :whistling:
But really, if something with a weird name like the Wii is as good as the Snes, then i will buy it in a heartbeat.
