Hello
I am happy to tell you that my website on PlaneShift just opened \\o//
It is having a redesign ... so if you are good in webdesigning, please go on my site and post your images
Hope that you will all enjoy it, PlaneShift Vault (http://www.planeshiftvault.tk)
Thank You
-
It's.. down for me. :(
-
ehhh, weird ... try THIS (http://psvault.hiya-host.com) link instead. Maybe it will work better ...
-
Um um um. I am really concerned about the type of public information you plan to have on there, particularly regarding quests. We don't allow any such thing on public sites, so I urge you to reconsider. Anything that we ask people to avoid posting on these official PS boards should not be posted on any other public board. I understand your intentions, but sometimes even the best can have unpleasant results.
I also don't understand the point of having a Bug forum - all bug reports should either be made here, in-game, or in BugTracker. That way we can keep up with them and offer appropriate fixes. Giving people yet another place to go to may become too confusing.
Just replying based on what I see so far.
-
Yeah, don't take in bug reports unless you can do something about them. ;)
-
The bug forum has nothing to do with the bugs of PS. It is if the ppl find bugs on my site.
And should I just put down my site (I can do it in one simple click ...) or what? because you don't seem very happy at all that players exchange their information.
If you want, I can add some text to the agreement (which you must accept to register) that "The use of the information provided by PlaneShift Vault will make the game less enjoyable" or something like that. And if you are worried that it will diminish the interaction between players, well I think you're wrong. Cause they will be always be people asking information in the game. And the buddy list is a list of friends, not mentors.
Anyway, I spent a lot of time to put this site up, so I hope that it will last more then 1 day ...
-
The fact is, Talad himself has stated quite clearly before that he will not allow such information to be spread publically, on forums or sites. You are free to share it among friends, but not like this. No disclaimers will make it any better. Maybe you can use your site for other purposes? You would not have been the first to think of doing something like this, putting together a "Guide of All Guides," but it falls very strongly into the "public spoilers" category that the PlaneShift team takes a strong stance against.
-
k, well what should I do of it ? just put it in the bin ?
and if players want to "spoil" the game by having information via a website, can't they do it ?
-
Just remove the Quest section, and it should be fine.
and if players want to "spoil" the game by having information via a website, can't they do it ?
If we find it, we will ask them to remove the information. The PlaneShift team has every right and every power to enforce that request as well.
Josellis, I understand that you want to provide as much help as possible to players, but this is the wrong way and there are much better community projects and sites that you can spend your time on - sites that won't make people angry, due to rule-breaking.
The bug forum has nothing to do with the bugs of PS. It is if the ppl find bugs on my site.
Bug
Bugs in the forum and on PlaneShift
-
I just made the quest section invisible to anyone not in the "game spoilers" group, cause it is the right of the player to spoil the game for them if they want
*edit*
Site ...
... closed
Please avoid posting two or more successive posts before others have replied. Just edit your last post to add new information. Thanks! --Karyuu
Karyuu, I started writing the first one before you submited your last post, and after, I submitted my other post thinking that it wasn't directly after one of mines
-
I think it is a shame you closed your site :(
I understand the "spoiler" problem that could have developed, but it could have been avoided.
There are many was people can share info without giving away specifics.
Oh well it was your choice to make.
I wish you best of luck on your next project.
-
I more "disabled" it then actually closed it and I can re-open it in one little click
Only I need to see if the Administrator will accept that, and if not what should I do to make it acceptable. The whole site is about exchanging information
-
I'm not an administrator myself - just a forum mod/GM/team artist.
We prefer it if people exchange information in the game itself :} If there is a guide for everything and on everywhere, people stop interacting in-game as much and miss out on the multiplayer part of PlaneShift, focusing instead of PPs, trainers, quick quests answers to get the rewards, etc. As I said, share this information between a few friends - just don't make a giant "exchanging information" site for it.
How about real how-to guides in terms of commands? How to make money? How to roleplay? How to create guilds? Things that won't spoil the game, but explain how it works?
-
I know another game and having a forum with quest guides and other guides didn't affect the gameplay AT ALL.
people stop interacting in-game as much and miss out on the multiplayer part of PlaneShift
No they don't a friendship isn't only on giving information to the other (that's called teaching). And sometimes, people become "stalkers" which isn't very good.
focusing instead of PPs, trainers, quick quests answers to get the rewards, etc.
Do you know what a real MMO is ? Well it isn't just chatting between people and seeing characters move on the screen which are animated by people. It is to do things together, interacting (not just in the way of chatting). One thing you could do is make much more difficult places to get there and you would only be able to go there if you are with friends. And not difficult in a way that it is hard to find your way, in the way that there are many powerfull creatures attacking you on the way.
How to make money? How to roleplay? How to create guilds? Things that won't spoil the game
I could do that, but it would all fit on an A4 page:
How to make money? Mine platinum or gold
How to create guilds? Read the manual
How to roleplay? Simple, act as if you were IN the game, not playing the game.
[EDIT] I re-openned my website so that people can look at it. I removed the section "Quest" (like you said earlier in this post)
-

I'm not going to argue any further. I've told you our rules about sharing quest information, and I hope that you respect them.

Thanks for the enlightenment ;)

PlaneShift is still in development. We have a lot of ideas to make gameplay more exciting, but not enough time and man power to do them all at once.
I could do that, but it would all fit on an A4 page:
How to make money? Mine platinum or gold
How to create guilds? Read the manual
How to roleplay? Simple, act as if you were IN the game, not playing the game.
Where do you find trainers? Ask in-game. There, I just summarized the entire site ;)
-
Technically speaking, there's not a damn thing we can do to stop you. We just don't like it. I have nothing against guilds having databases and bestiaries, but that info isn't public. So, we'll ask nicely that you don't post links to spoilers, walkthroughs, scripts, etc. here and at least vaguely comply with our request. Any stuff here that's over the line will be deleted. If you still intend to have a spoiler database up, you simply won't be able to advertize it here.
-
Having people exchanging information out of the game isn't helping at all. This will reduce player interaction and you'll get to see a bunch of mute players that oftenly stop to alt-tab from the game, look at your website and go on camping, training and leveling without exchanging one word with others. Let's not forget that the main focus of this game is RP, meaning player interaction after all. Besides this a game should be played ingame not on forums, websites or IRC. For simple questions like "How to make money, How to kill rats, etc" we have the players guide and a quite nice FAQ here, on the forums. Complementary to that all the guilds have a "tome of knoledge" so IMO, there are a bunch of places to find information without a speciffic site that gives spoilers. And one more thing, we don't call certain information "spoilers" for nothing. Try to imagine this: You make a new character and it is your first time you come ingame. Come to me and I'll give you all the info you need to get a full maxed character with all quests completed in a month. Will that make you feel better? You were a bot following my instructions. You have nothing more to discover so you'll quit, right? The fun in doing a quest isn't the reward, it is the fact that you found the answers by yourself.
-
K, well tell me what should I do of my site ? Just put it down ?
I thought I could make some of the "spoilers" only available for people who agree to have the game "spoilt". That group will have to request to join the gropu and I will personnaly let them in if they (of their own mouth, or hands) says "Yes, I agree to have the game spoilt by the information I will obtain from the sections I can access on PlaneShift Vault". Will that be OK ?
-
Again reflecting on the meaning of the worls "spoiler". "Game spoiler" means "something that can or does ruin the game experience for a player". It is completly up to you to decide if your site helps people (and think about that as a long term effect) or doesn't help them. IMO it will not help them and whatever warnings you will post there will be ignored. My playeble character's guild has for example a document containing all the trainers, all the quest solutions, all the NPCs and all the "whatever you want". The only people that will get into possesion of that document though are those who completed all the quests, know where the NPCs or trainers are located, etc. Since it seems useless after that you might wonder why would we give them that document. It is simple, because people forget and sometimes in order to help somebody else it is usefull to have a writen reference.
So, as DaveG said "Technically speaking, there's not a damn thing we can do to stop you. We just don't like it." Why? Because it will ruin the game experience for some people
-
k ... so what should I do of my website ? (for the ... 4th time I think ...)
-
That's for you to decide... But you can turn it into something else - a collection of fan-art, something everyone wanted a website on, or expand on the Roleplay forum here and create a site with a giant collection of stories and lore, etc.
-
k ... I'm doing some changes now.
If anyone else has any idea of what else I could put on the website, please tell me :D
-
Over time PS had a lot of fan websites, guild websites. Not all of them did survive over time. But still, there are a lot of them.
Right now it seems that you have the technical structure and the will to create something.
Your first idea was to provide a knowledge sharing place. It's a good idea.
It's clear now that you can not use it to share informations that would spoil the point of playing: exploring, solving puzzling quests, working hard to progress in skills and fame.
So I suggest you to focus on sharing informations that would on the contrary increase the ingame life.
Quickly I can suggest you a few ideas. Some are easy to implement with collective contributions of a forum and others needing to be sorted and organised and kept up to date by mods.
- 1. quick links: instead of having duplicates of ressources gathered on many "official" and fan websources.
- 2. open debates areas.
- 3. guilds spaces.
- 4. reviews.
1: Provide to newcomers links to the essentials: guide, FAQ, policy, ...
some are on http://www.planeshift.it, some inside this forum and some are well made on guild's forums. Sort them up and provide a portal where to send any newcomer willing to know as much as possible without having to browse and lose themselves in outdated infos returned by a "search".
2: Run your own "hydlaa plaza" area that you can organise to your liking with as many subcategories you want. Music, games others than PS, books, movies, ... This can't be done here. It's a useful (and popular) section of the forums but here it's more borderline. Make it the core of the community of your subscribers.
3: I am sure that your offer to create groups and private guilds' sections will help a lot of guild leaders who don't have the knowledge/time to create one. Many
4: With all the hot topics that did, are and will fill this forums, yours could be used to point the important ones, summarize them, link to them and allow comments. Allow free flaming or on the contrary keep the essentials...Reviews can deal with this forums but also all the fan sites.
If your site is really helpful it will be popular. If it offers something different (more or less moderation) it will be used and you will not have wasted your energy.
I am sure you will find other useful ideas that won't interfere with ingame roleplay nor divulgate copyrighted material. Good luck and keep us informed.
-
A game forum! Man, people really wanted one, I believe :) Since we don't allow forum game threads in Hydlaa plaza, you can dedicate a whole section to it within your own board - and as I promised before, I'll sticky a link in Hydlaa Plaza so people have an outlet for such things.
-
K, I'm really happy now (you don't know at what point) \\o// :D ::)
Thank you very much. it is my first true website and I would be really happy if it goes well it would be so nice ... :'(
I would be really happy if you post a sticky on the hydlaa plaza forum
and for now, I'm gonna work on creating those new sections :D
Thank you again. GO PLANESHIFT :D
-
I'll make the sticky when the site is a bit more complete :) So good luck with it!
-
Yeh sure, I am working at it anyway now.
and thanks again :D
-
Here's another ideea, a "News" section, something like a journal of everything that happens in Yliakum every day. Soon that section would be like a history book of all major events that happened (and all minor events too).
Also a section containing all the new technical features added to PlaneShift would be nice because there are alot of old players that had a long brake from PS and when they return, alot of things are changed and a section like that would help them alot.
I wish you luck with the website :)
-
I also created a "Market Place" so that people can sell their things or buy other's stuff :D
I am gonna create that "News" section as well as the "Updates" section (for the technical stuff)
And I'm gonna go to bed after this cause I am WAY after my bed time :-\
So g'night every1
-
Some ideas for your HP (I provide them on german on my fansite):
- Moddingguids
- A Newbieguide
- Some technical Guides (e.g. a Mining Guide - without spoilders like where to dig...)
- A bigger faq-section as the one on the ps-hp
- A Screenshot section
- A guilde-list (with so more infos and in a more "viewable" format)
- A link list
- Polls
So far, good luck!
EDIT: If you need help, feel free to ask, maybe I can help you :flowers:
-
- Moddingguids - We have that: http://www.ps-mc.com/
- A Newbieguide -We have that right here on the forums and there is a player guide too
- Some technical Guides (e.g. a Mining Guide - without spoilders like where to dig...) Where to dig isn't technical, and yes, we have that
- A bigger faq-section as the one on the ps-hp I don't think that is necesary, it is better to keep things in one place, besides the one we have is growing every day
- A Screenshot section - We have that (screenshot post) but this might work, there are alot of people having alot of screenshots
- A guilde-list (with so more infos and in a more "viewable" format) - What's a guide list? A guide for guides?
- A link list - Good, that would be necesary for every site
- Polls
-
First I do not think, that a decentralized fan-site system is bad.
Yes I know that you have most of the things, but why shouldnt there be more, from different point of views?
The miningguide: I know that wjere to dig isn't technical, thats what I wrote...
You have a Screenshot post, but in my opinion this isn't very clearly arranged... so why shouldnt there be a gallery?
I wrote guild list :P
So most games have fansites with information that is allready available on the primary site, but that is not bad at all...
-
My point is that it is useless to do the same thing twice because of the ammount of work you have to put in with little or no result.
A galery is a good ideea but having sections that already exist on other fan sites or on the official site is just overkill.
And, btw, there is a guild listing also ;) http://www.guildlisting.com/
-
I got your point but I see it a different way. I don't say you should provide the exact same things, but different views are a good thing... well our opinion don't fit, but hey doesn't matter :flowers:
-
I think its a great idea, i mean its just his way of trying to add a little something to the PS comunity.
As has been said if he follows the wishes of the Devs, and follows th GM's suggestions, whats the big deal.
He has a passion for the game so let him show it.
-
Thanks for all your support guys :) I'm really happy about that.
I am gonna create a "PS Vault album" where anyone can put screenies on it (as long as they are registered) :)
If there are any other propositions, please post them in this post or in my forum (in general discussion)
[EDIT] I finished most of the things on my website, so can you (moderator(s)) go and check it? and if it is OK, you can put the sticky up, if it isn't please tell me what I still need to improve.
and don't say I need to put better graphics ... I know, but I'm not very good to create images from scratch, so I created a forum in PS vault where everyone can propose their pictures :)
-
Since we don't allow forum game threads in Hydlaa plaza, you can dedicate a whole section to it within your own board - and as I promised before, I'll sticky a link in Hydlaa Plaza so people have an outlet for such things.
I'm not going to link to a random fan site, Josellis.. :} I said people often wanted to play forum games - word games, counting games, etc. - but since we don't allow it here, having another forum somewhere dedicated to that would be good. You haven't created anything like that though.
-
oh, ok
How can they be forum games ? and why would people want to play such a thing when they can play instead PlaneShift ?
I will be able to create a section for that, but only if I know what those "forum games" are, I never ever saw one before.
and they can post some in the "game" section for now
-
An example of forum games would be:
"I'm going to post a word - turn it into an acronym and write it out, then post one of your own so people can reply and continue."
"Post a question and an answer, so people afterwards can post their answer to your question, and then their own random question."
"Let's see how fast we can fill up the thread with 1000 posts!"
"In this thread, make conversations only using song titles."
And similar. Usually when PlaneShift's server is down, people get bored and do silly things on the forum :P
-
oh, ok
I see now what you mean :)
I am gonna do that straight away (should be read in 10-20 minutes ...)
I also included what most people said in this post, especially what "Alfonso Knaf" said.
-
I wanted to make a post in the Bugs section, but it seems that it's off-limits to regular posters. Where would we make reports or comments about the site? :)
I'll write it out here for now, a few typos that caught my eye:
Announces --> Announcements
Bug --> Bugs
Updates loh --> Updates Log (a really good idea, actually. Thumbs up on this one.)
Stories & Fairy Tails --> Stories & Fairy Tales
And I see you've made the section, so I'll add the link now. Thanks a lot, Josellis!
-
Sorry, i'm a french speaker to start with and have been in autralia for only 8 month, so my english isn't very good
thanks for that and you need to register to create a post, and a registration is very easy simple and quick :)
and the "update loh" was just a typing mistake and it is already fixed :)
[EDIT] I just read your post, you could just add the link PlaneShift Vault (http://www.planeshiftvault.tk) ([ url=http://www.planeshiftvault.tk ]PlaneShift Vault[ /url ]
