Well since about two clients ago I haven't had an issue with the darkness bug. Lately in the last week I have notice it coming back with a vengeance but it seems to only be in the one area (for me anyway). The tunnel that leads out of Hydlaa city. I becomes pitch black and I can't see anything around me. The first couple of times I logged off which fixed the problem. This last time around I waited it out to see if it would clear it's self up and it did. What I noticed brings this on ... is when I go into the loading zone by the forest rogue and if it is night time that is when the bug takes effect. It clears itself up when it becomes day light (Or if I relog). I shall post some screeni's of what I saw today. Hopefully the information I have provided with help you get that nasty little bug, as I stubbed my toe on the door into Hydlaa because I couldn't see. ;)

I am having the exact same problem, only it's in EVERY zone. In fact, even my character creation screen is darker.
I can't figure it out. I haven't done anything to my monitor. All of my other games are lit correctly, but I can't see squat in Planeshift anymore.
I went so far as to uninstall and reinstall the game, and it didn't do a bit of good. It's just as dark as it was before.

Was there ever a fix to this problem? Because I am now getting the same
I can't see anything

Have you tried -relight?

Have you tried -relight?
I hit relight and it says it is loading the map then I hit launch and it is still the same what do you think I should do?
-
Hit relight where, exactly? Normally you would right-click on your PS icon and type -relight at the end of the Target line.
How about a clean reinstall?

I did the reinstall and I did you relight in the setup application. I will try it your way and report back
*edit*
I must say I am at a loss. I am not sure how to do this. I right click on the startupicon or in the game?
-
Not a problem, I should have included instructions right from the start. Right-click on the PlaneShift desktop icon, hit Properties, and type -relight at the very end of the Target line, like so:

Before you do this, make sure you are logged off in the map that has these lighting problems. When you run PlaneShift afterwards, the loading time will be far longer. If the problem is fixed, take out -relight from the shortcut so that you don't repeat this every time PS runs.
-
Well the loading time was the same. And the darkness only got a bit better. I checked my driver and tried lighting but that didn't work either. Players are bright as day it is everything else that is black ecept in cities they are fine. Have you heard of this before?
-
I'm actually experiencing the same problem myself, but I didn't try reinstalling yet. (Relighting didn't do the trick.) No more ideas on my end, unfortunately.. :} But you can be sure that I'll be trying to figure this out.

You are a scholar and a saint! Thanks :D

I have tried to use the relight panel in the setup program and it did not function at all. I did not report it because I thought it might have been due to a conflict between scripts in /usr/bin, ie improper unistallation of the old and installation of the new client on my part. Here is the error from running planeshift-setup in a terminal:
planeshift.setup.application:
Application initialized successfully.
Relightning map /planeshift/art/world/bronzedoors.zip
crystalspace.pluginmgr.loadplugin:
could not load plugin 'crystalspace.level.loader'
Couldn't load the loader plugin! Can't relight maps!
Segmentation fault
There appears to be a typo relightning in the error message is it in the source code as well? I mean the function call of course as the error message typo is obviously in the code or would not be printed out.

It seems more than just a few are going through this right now. I have tried a number of different drivers and countless vareations with my OpenGL settings and nothing seems to be a suitable fix :( I even tried old fixes in older releases with no luck.
Is anyone from the dev team looking into this right now ?
I welcome all suggestions, as I am willing to try anything at this point.
-
Use planeshift -fullbright, it takes away a little, no shadows or light variability, but, you know, pre-al...
-
The last time I tried 'fullbright' it gave me a white wash effect, it did help but the look is not real apealing.
I am going to try again and let ya know how it turned out ;)
EDIT:
Worked much better this time :) thanks Bilbous
Still not what it should be, but much better.

If it is still too bright you could always play with the gamma level of your video card. If you are using windows it would be in the properties of the desktop somewhere. I think for nVidia cards you can save settings on a per program basis so you could turn ps down and leave the rest normal I do not know anything about other cards....

I am using the Omega drivers for ATI and it has an awsome user interface so it is easy to adjust anything. I have 4 different profiles setup for PS. depending where I go, I can just press a button and change the settings :)

Just wondering if anyone has found the solution yet?
