Title: another movement suggestion
Post by: Thivuel on June 22, 2006, 06:00:40 pm
I sugest that running backward should be disabled / slowed down a bit.
in real life we dont run backward as fast as we can do it forward.
backrunning would also mean unfair advantage of the ranged weapons over melee combat.
i mean continuus fire while running back... monsters wont be able to attack... same for pvp.

In real life you can run backwards pretty fast, if you practice anough and if you don't run into stuff of course.
Also, PS doesn't have ranged weapons yet, and you would probably need to stand still or walk slowly while you use it, just like with magic. And if the speeds ever need to change, it's easy to do.

pretty fast - yes
as fast as sprint - no

try to run 100 meters backwards... and tell me if you can get it below 15 seconds
(i'm not trying to ofend you. just proving my point)

i know that we dont have any long range weapons... yet. but if everything is done in a manner: we will change it when other things come in... it will be a hell more work later.

we can run.

by the way. if we can run backward we should also be able to run sideways- strafe. with a bit of practice it can be done fast. (faster than runing back)

Makes sense:  yes
Going to happen soon:  no

Just based on the way we show our animations, this isn't as simple as it should be right now.  Yes, I can change one number server-side to actually make backwards motion slower, but it animates wrong.  We'll need a much more customizable animation system to do this, unfortunately.  We will get a better one at some point, as this is the least of the things we can't really do right.  (ex: swimming, not that we actually have much water yet)
