History
On a dark day in Yliakum, not too long ago, lives were obliterated. The once happy inhabitants of a fair city were screaming for their lives among flames and smoke. A city that had existed for ages and countless generations was destroyed in one act of savage destruction.
This is the story of the City of Vaern.
Vaern was founded by Ylian settlers in a time that predates written history. It was here, not too far from Hydlaa, that a group of Ylian settlers enjoyed a modest lifestyle for generations. One day, a clan of Stonebreakers called the Gitny Clan entered Vaern with a request. The Gitny had been evicted out of their underground home and forced to flee because of a radical group of Kran who wished to use the Gitny's mineral-rich rocks for food. These Kran called themselves the Moroc. The Gitny, being a peaceful clan, could not fight the Moroc and so they fled. For days and months they traveled together, searching for a new home. Hundreds died from the journey alone. Finally, the spotted a city just dawning over the horizon. New life was born into the clan, and they sped up hoping to make it to the unknown city by nightfall. The Gitny, upon reaching Vaern requested that they be able to settle in the city of Vaern along with the Ylian. The Vaern Council agreed to this, and both clans lived in harmony for the generations to come.
The two Clans eventually interbred. Their cultures meshed and they began to share beliefs. The Gitny showed the Ylian how to mine and to forge weapons, while the Ylian taught the Gitny farming and battle tactics. It is fair to say that both sides found benefits in settling together. As the centuries passed, the younger generations were becoming more and more skilled with the skills of both the Gitny and Ylian. Eventually, all of the inhabitants of Vaern became known as the Gitny.
As the seasons passed, the City of Vaern grew. One day, the Vaern Council was informed that the Moroc had exhausted all of their food supplies and were coming in search of the Gitny. The Moroc wanted to capture as many Gitny as possible in hopes of having them lead the Moroc to greater food supplies. The Vaern Council quickly deployed the Vaern Protective Infantry (VPI) to defer, or at least weaken, the coming Moroc. Mysteriously, however, the Moroc passed by or defeated the VPI without a scratch and they completely destroyed the City of Vaern, taking many captives with them. Few managed to survive that horrible attack. Vaern was gone, the Moroc disappeared, and so did the Gitny.
We are those who escaped, those who survived..
We are The Survivors of Vaern.
Purpose
Our guild has two main purposes: To resettle Vaern and to practice and teach the ways of the Gitny. We must do many things to reach the first goal; these things include but are not limited to: collecting resources, managing an economy, recruiting new Settlers, raising a strong VPI, collecting information about Vaern, and more.
Ranks
Note: The ranks in SoV are used to organize as well as to show Seniority. There are two ranks for each division; one low-level rank and one high-level rank. Members choose which Division they will be in, then they will enter that Division's low-level rank. (EX. Easton wishes to join the Seekers. He starts out as a Scout. Then is promoted to Seeker of Vaern. After months of displaying honour and trustworthiness he is promoted to Protector.)
1-Immigrant- This person has just joined the guild. They will need to portray a basic understanding of the guild and its history, along with showing a will to learn and better themselves.
2-City Guard- This is the first step of the Vaern Protective Infantry. In this rank, one will be taught the basics of defending oneself through the use of weapons, magic, and basic tactics. They will also advance their knowledge of the various skills and how they affect ones abilities in battle.
3-Scout- The Scout is the first rank in the Seekers of Vaern. Members of this status will be asked to do quests throughout Yliakum. They will learn the language of the citizen [NPC] and use this language to further their knowledge and completion of various deeds throught Yliakum. They must also begin to learn about the various guilds and inhabitants of the land so they can prepare for the challenges that lay ahead in the Seekers.
4-Peddler- A member of this rank aspires to be a member of the Merchants of Vaern. A Peddler is one who is learning the basics of the Yliakum Economy. They will train in basic resource gathering, and learn the worth of various resources. Some basic secondary work may be introduced as well, such as basic crafting, hide-curing, farming etc..
5-Officer of Vaern- An Officer of Vaern is an official member of the VPI. They will work on mastering their weaponry skills, tactics, knowledge of weapons, and of their opponents. These members are in charge of protecting the guild members and the guild itself. Should it be neccessary they will be the most valuable resource during a war.
6-Seeker of Vaern- A member of the Seekers of Vaern is always learning. They will constantly be educating and re-educating themselves concerning everything in Yliakum. They will also teach by writing their own quests for completion by a Scout. From time to time they will also be asked to complete a mission. These missions are always completed in Absolute Secrecy, and therefore no more information can be given at this time.
7-Merchant of Vaern- The Merchants of Vaern are extremely valuable to the guild and the community as a whole. They regulate the guild's economy by making trade agreemants with other guilds or businesses, creating their own businesses, advancing their knowledge in the arts and crafts, running events, and supplying the guild with an healthy supply of items and trias. They are in charge of the Armory and the Treasury and making sure neither are too full or too empty. Every so often there will be a specific order that the guild needs to be completed. It will be up to the members of this rank to complete this job in the least amount of time with the most amount of quality.
8-Protector- The Protectors are the most trusted members of the guild. They have displayed honor, courage, and dedication to the guild over a long period of time. There will be three Protectors, one running each division. These three are in charge of organizing their division, evaluating each member, promoting as needed, and handing down jobs to those they feel are the most capable. There are also other Protectors who are not in charge of any division, but simply high-ranking, well-respected guild members. There is no actual formula for becoming a Protector, it is up to the Guardian and other Protectors.
9-Guardian- The Guardian is the founder of the guild. He takes all responsibility for the well-being and happiness of each member. Come the time that we settle Vaern, the Guardian will lead everyone to everlasting happiness.

You're on a good run for the "most guilds" title mate. Survivors of Vaern...sounds familiar,
EDIT: Survirors of Berne...very similar. Too similar.....
-
As soon as you can come up with a better name, liked by us and the Game Masters RobinMagus, we'll go with that. Since Berne was not allowed in our name, we had to go with another name. After a while, Vaern popped up. It is still the same guild, with the same people, same intentions, same goal, and same heart.
-
I probably should have explained that in the first post. My apologies, but yes, Berne had to be removed, so we reorganized the guild a little bit, but it is still the same guild, just with a different name.

Well I certainly wouldn't say the name change has harmed you much. I think I like the new name more and I definitely like the added detail and slight change of structure in your guild more than before. Great job, Easton!
-
You saying you hated the name before!?
Just kidding, thanks for the kind remarks. Im sure ill see you on the other side, in a few days of course :)

good luck rebuilding vaerne, you'll need a lot of dwarves for that, great housebuilders it says somewhere ;)

Survivors news flash.
We've been around for quite some time now, and I figured it may be useful and interesting to give you all an update on what we've been doing so far. So here i go. The guild has been doing great, slowly gaining in numbers, and taking in only those that are truelly interested and have not yet been spam invited by other guilds. Currentely, our numbers stand at 15 and we are doing very well. While trying to re-build Vaern, we find more and more people willing to help us out, and stand behind our cause. All in all, more a family then a guild.
Several quests and events have been organised from within the guild, in order to retrieve items that once belonged in Vaern. These guild quests are created by the members theirselves, along with the entire story and set up. Also, it's hard to ever find a Survivor alone, cause most of the time we're all running along together, for a game at Brado's or some ulber slaying in the vulcano.
Also, the chain of command has shifted slightly, cause of Easton promoting two people to 2nd in command, the Protectors. Ralelyon and myself are now trusted with the privilige to lead the guild when Easton is not around.
All in all, The Survivors are doing great, and are even more appealing then they used to be. Think it's something for you? A home, famely, amazing guild quests, 100% activity, a leader that's actually there and always has something to do for you? Visit http://ugo.sinet.it/survivors and see for yourself.

Not bad, not bad at all...

We all really feel like the Survivors are a great acomplishment, and we want to share this experience with everyone. Who knows, maybe you'll be a Survivor one day. So here is an exerpt from a story we are all working on together on the forums.
Background: A group of Survivors are heading out to help a friend, Marcin, who has reported that a Kran and group of Shadow Moths are attacking his hometown. Instantly, the Survivors prepare a wagon and begin their journey to the city under siege. Along the way, however, they run into several problems. This is just one of them:
Proglin slows down the Umbolic a bit and pets the creature on his neck as it seems... restless. All of a sudden, the Umbolic comes to a halt. "Hya! Hya!" Proglin shouts, trying to get the Umbolic back to a steady pace. Proglin sighs and lets his whip rest on the back of the creature cause his commands seem to have no affect at all. Then suddenly! Out of the darkness of the forest.... from in between the tall trees, come 4 black cloacked creatures... they look human and have their weapons drawn. Proglin doesn't hesitate one second, cause he instantly recognizes the pack of rogues. "Rall, seems you were wrong! " He shouts while quickly jumping in the back to grab "Eye Splitter" and "Peace Maker". The rogues don't hesitate one second after this sudden movement. They quickly dash up to the Survivors on the wagon and the tallest one of all swings his war hammer at Huor, while another one lays an arrow on his bow and aims for the Umbolic that's slowly stepping back, not fully aware of what's going on.
"Easton! Shoot him!" Proglin shouts while pointing at the rogue that's aiming for the Umbolic...
...Huor evades the deadly blow of the human, by ducking abruptly to the right. The war hammer crashes down onto the carts woodwork with a loud noise, and splinters fly everywhere. Huor picks up his sword but while bending down to do so, he notices blood dropping rapidly onto the bench and a piercing feeling to his head. Huor jumps out of the cart and gets into his fighting stance, his sword held upright to the ground and glares into the eyes of the rogue. Both of them start turning around each other, waiting for the first one to strike...
Huor wipes his eye, that in the mean time had filled with blood and he notices a whole patch of skin missing from his forehead. The man, seeing Huor somewhat distracted, uses this instant to attack. Huor, caught at his disadvantage, barely manages to dodge, hearing the whizzing sound of the hammer right next to his face... Huor stumbles back a little closing his left eye, and readies himself to attack. The evil man takes one step forward and swings his weapon; Huor is this time ready. With a quick move to the left, and launches powerful blow to his opponents head. The rogue, with an extremely swift movement raises his arm in the trajectory of the blade. A sound that seems like a clash of metal can be heard. The man grabs hold of the sword and drags Huor towards him. Seeing his situation turning to the worst, Huor lets go of his sword and thrusts his head in the direction of the human. A loud cracking noise can be heard as blood gushes out of the humans nose which had clearly been broken. The man lets go a loud scream, as he puts his hand to his nose. Huor uses this instant to jump onto the rogue's neck and swing behind him taking his head into a lock, and snapping his neck.
The lifeless body of the human falls to the ground like a stone. His headache getting worse and his vision all blurry, Huor stumbles around to find his sword. Battle sounds can be heard not far away, with swords clashing against each other, and cries of injured men. Huor, listens worried, franticly looking for his blade in the thick mist. Huor at last finds it under the dead body of the rogue, and stumbles back to the cart using his sword as a cane...
...At the word of Proglin's shout Easton instantly loads his bow. Looking around he sees a fellow bowmen firing towards the Umbiloc. Seeing Xoraxa not in the best of situations, he fires. The steel-tipped arrow whizzes out of the wagon and strikes the rogue bowmen right in the stomach.
"Urcgh!"
A loud screech comes from the rogue bowmen as he falls to his knees. Moments later the rogue goes for a dagger at his waist, hoping to get one more strike at the female dwarf just feet in front of him. Then an arrow hits the wounded rogue in the forehead, instantly killing him. Looking towards Xoraxa, Easton gestures a sign of relief and then turns around to help the wounded Huor to into the cart.
"Proglin, grab Xoraxa!"
Phew! That was close! What did you think? Well, if you want to be a part of the action, or just be a part of the Survivor's family, then let one of us know on our forums [www.ugo.sinet.it/survivors] or in game, and we'll have a chat with you in the Tavern. See you soon!

[Guild event]
Huor is suprised as a letter lands right on his lap while enjoing some time in the tavern. He just had a beer with Easton and Eldkin and They were handling an application from a new asset to the guild known as Daenub. Huor unfolds the letter and with raised brows reads it to Easton and Eldkin.
Dear Survivors of Vaern,
My name is Gossy and I seem to be in some trouble. I'm a mage apprentice and erm.. was testing a new spell which enabled me to teleport. My goal was to teleport to the library, but I got stuck on a roof somewhere halfway to there. and now I can not get of. My mental stamina completely dried out, so not a chance I can teleport of again anymore. Can you please help me get of this roof? I seem to be near the plaza.
Yours, Gossy.
Not long after Easton calls forth all survivors and together they organise a search party to find Gossy. With som cleaver spell usage. Eldkin manages to create a flame spiral so large that every Survivor could see where he was. He found Gordy on a rooftop near the Tavern. After reaching Gossy, and speculating about how to get him of the roof, Huor suddenly has an idea. "All we need is a mana potion to replenish your mental stamina. That way you can simple teleport of the roof again". The idea is accepted and of they go to get the potion. Gossyhappely drinks it and gently floats off the roof. Once brought down, he rapidly rushes around a corner and takes his long desired wee.
After having done so, Gossyclaims to have lostall sense of direction with that last teleport and asks to be brought to his master in the library. His master named Mox awaits him and the survivors there and lets one sentence slip "Now if only we could decypher this bloody Gitny handwriting". The Survivors freeze upon hearing the name of the Stonebreakers that inhabited Vaern. Eagerly thy question Mox and find that he was refering to a formula about a potion used to fertilize the farmlands. But he simply can not read the handwriting. Mox is willing to hand them the recipe, if they bring him back his Alchemist pupil as well. Her name is Milya, the fenki.
They find her plucking Night Mushrooms at the Magic shop. After explaining to her why they are there, she follows them to the Library... but stops every 5 seconds cause she sees an interesting bug, plant or animal. After a tiring 40 minutes they finally reach her master. Mox, Milya and Gossy are reunited once more. Mox happely hands the Survivors his Gitny recipe for a potion that will fertilizethe lands.
One step closer to rebuilding Vaern...

*licks his lips* H
Hello Easton..
-
That was fun. Nice to see a guild that takes time to organise interesting events like these ;)
-
Heh, its the only way to keep sane really ;)
But yes, they are tons of fun, and we often include other guilds or members of other guilds, just to keep it interesting and add some variety. So yay for guild quests!

The Survivors of Vaern is one of the most enigmatic guilds. The Vaern Quests look interesting. What items were there to be found?
If any of you are from Italy as the website would indicate, please get in touch with me. Ciao.
Prince Odisseo
-
Sorry for the really late reply Odisseo.
The quest rewards always depend on the situation. At times there is a Tria reward for those that helped let's say a merchant. Swords, glyphs and other items could be provided as well. It all depends on the character that gives th quest to the guild members.
The person who made our website is a very good frien to many of us, however he has nothing to do with our guild. But, we do have two Italian members of whom I will not give any names for privacy reasons.
If there are more questions, I assure you that all our guildmembers will be more then happy to answer them.

*Easton comes back from Ura and the construction site of Vaern and looks around for his guild members.
*Silavur sees Easton in the guildhall and runs up to him.
"Guardian! It has been too long! How goes the rebuilding?"
"It goes well Silavur. It is good to see you again. I've got a question for you... where is... well, where is everyone?"
*Silavur hangs his head, "After Proglin's passing, and with you being busy so far away.... our membership has dwindled. Several people are interested, but we don't have the necessary leadership."
"Who else is normally around?"
"Gaian occasionally sir, but we are the last."
Easton wrinkles his brow and seems to be reflecting on something, "We need to talk."
Easton and Silavur talked for a long time and concocted a plan. This plan lets Silavur take full control of the guild in Easton's absence. Easton gives Silavur guidelines and tips for how the guild has run and stands up, "I need to get some sleep for my return journey. Can you handle this?"
"Yes sir, I will lead the guild and try to rebuild here, while you rebuild our city."
*Easton nods and takes the Guardian badge and hands it to Silavur, "Just don't burn down the guildhouse ok?" He smiles and winks as he walks out the door.
-
Hem... This IS a serious question.
Are we still alive on PS?
-
yes-ish but again our leadership hasn't been able to be around much :(
-
I mean, yes, I know that we're working on another thing, but are we still on PS? (I see only Ralleyon appearing some times....)
Many say that we're a dead guild :(
-
I remember Easton. Those were the good old days. It would be nice to see this guild be active again.
-
would be nice to see members of SoV again, not seen anyone in a long time
-
Yes, many are working on another project. Silavur I know has some loose ends still, so I'm hoping he'll come back if only to finish those. just because we have few active members right now doesn't mean we have to die though. Want to throw an event? I wasn't with the guild long but from what I can tell is that it was known for it's events
-
We should.
Ah,
I didn't told that our guild is dead, but many think that :(
-
I can remember how Silavur and I have overtaken two elder and well renowed guilds. We both had ambitious plans, sorry to see that SoV are in a sad state at the moment.
I hope better times will come for SoV, as that was allawys a nice guild, had nice members and was an enrichment to community.
-
Yup, the previous owner was very creative, like Lolitra. We could use more of these initiatives.
Hope to see the Survivors of Vaern up and running like before soon.
-
I am still around, although not as much as I'd like to...
This was very beautiful initiative and it still has potential, if nurtured. I'll discuss with Easton & Silavur and get back to you with news, be they good or bad.
Sorry for the late reply.
-
Easton was a good fellow, I remember him.
Hope he comes back, the guild was alot of fun to play with.
-
Hey!
Wow, its been a long time since i've been here.
Anyways, i'd love to hear about the state of the guild, if there even is a state. But yeah, the SoV and its devoted members had a ton of fun while it was active. It was fun to be a part of the great community we had going back in the day. Since i've left, i really haven't heard a ton about PS and its state of affairs either. Every once in a while i'll hear about the new release, or something similar.
Anyways, i'd love to say that we'll certainly come back, but i probably can't promise that at all. At least not anytime soon. Though you might be happy to hear that Myself, Proglin, Ralleyon, and Silavur are still in very close contact.
Anyways, you guys are awesome for even remembering us, and i really appreciate the extraordinarily nice things you've all said about the guild and its members. Personally, i'd like to DL a new version of PS sometime in the near future and dabble around a bit. We'll have to wait and see... currently, i'm simply to busy with a myriad of RL things.
I hope to get into contact with some old friends sometime soon.
Stay safe!
~Easton Ghent

How wonderful to hear the words 'Stay Safe' from you Easton. I wish you the same. It will a great day to see you come back and visit PS again.
-
It's awesome to hear everyone remembering us. PS might be an option for me again sometime, but for now I just don't have the time. I really do miss the old SoV and would love it if we could have the guild active again. Dihenis you were such an amazing Survivor for even the short time you were there, so if we do come back I expect you to be waiting. :)
-
I don't get much time now either :( Don't even have the latest version installed.
-
Of course, I'll be waiting here :)
