Holy crap the thread has grown quickly :} Unfortunately I needed sleep and couldn't keep up, and I have more work to do for our update. I guess Kary just disappeared into the landscape when she went scouting ;)

Ok I thought I would start this thread for out OOC talk, suggestions, concerns, etc.

:) I so far am enjoying the story line and think it is going rather well. Keep in mind that we can all go back and edit our stories to match accordingly. Don't be to concerned if you have stuff to do in RL and cannot be here to join on it. You can always write your character as going for a walk our having to head back to town for supplies. Those are just examples. Great job everyone.
[edit] LoL ... no problems karyuu. I would rather you be working on the update as I am really excited to see what you devs have in store for us planeshift players. How about the group grows concerned because you have seemed to have disappeared and now one knows where you have gone? Does that work?

Yes, I have found it difficult to keep up as well, I have found that if I am patient, and find the right spot to write Sat back in, it pays off.
I think we will have to overlook some inconsistincies and continuity dillemas.

I'm not too much into forum roleplay...but I have a big RP planned for when the server comes back up (and when I get done powerleveling Blare)

Ok I just thought I would throw this suggestion out seeing as this story is moving so fast. Maybe what some of us could do more than others is wait for at least three of four posts after your last, before posting again. This way everyone get a chance to join in. I have been hearing alot of 'I can't keep up" or "everytime I go to post someone already has!" Remember we are all writing a story together, so let others be able to have their say and guide the events so that we all feel we were apart of it. Thank you, and have fun.
Another thing that personally I have an issue with is someone joining in and not know what the heck is going on. Please read at least a page of what is going on before posting. As much as this story doesn't have to follow realisim as it is fantacy, posting a scene and just popping up out of no where with no explantion kind of leaves the rest of the story tellers with a big question mark over their heads and wondering how to work around such posts. Truthfully it isn't fair. If you want the story tellers to respect and read your writings please do the same for others.

@ everyone: Over all I think in general it just seems to be common sense to read before posting. Why would you want to be apart of a story you know nothing about? Just seems very silly to me.

I also thought maybe it might be a good idea to start our own IRC channel so we can discuss anything if necessary. We could even vote in there.

The problem is that we really do not have someone in charge.
I just want my thoughts known on this issue. I think that there shouldn't be someone in charge at all. I think maybe we are all friends that came together for an adventure. Everyone as far as I am concerned is in charge. Personally I think the organization with this group is going well, so if it isn't broken why try and fix it?
As for the IRC channel, that is a good way to communicate. Although we have the thread here, and #planeshift in IRC .... so far those are the tools I have been using.

Well I think that is yet to be written. Eventually someone if not myself will call for everyone to meet so we can do a head count. Then move from there. I think writing about it is better, as this is what I created the story thread for.

Siteri, we all have to be forgiving in the areas of continuity so just jump in where you are comfortable.

These boards aren't much good for talking to each other in realtime. It's hard enough just keeping up with the story thread.
And a channel just for the story would be more focused on the story rather than general chat I would think.

Great Idea. anyone who wishes to join has the time to read everything and work themselves in.

Hey guys. I've loved the story so far so I hope you don't mind that I jump in. I'm new around here, just downloaded PlaneShift this week to find out the server is down. I've been through the guide and I've been browsing the forum and I"m pretty excited to get into the real thing ASAP. I thought this would be a way for me to get involved until the server's back up.
So since I'm a n00b I thought for now my character is a young clumsy human. So I've fallen into some kind of underground cave, and there's something down there, but I'm not familiar enough with the game to know what, so feel free to help me out by giving me an idea of what might be down there, or pull me out before I find out, it's up to you.

Welcome aboard Spetyco, the more the marrier! I thought maybe since you are in a cave it could be a gobble. In the game they dwell in the sewers, so your setting seems perfect for this creature.

Zorbels just gave me an idea.
If you have an idea but need time to write it out simply post "PAUSE" when you are finnished edit your post with what you have come up with.

I'm working on Spetyco's background story at http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=23955.0. If it's OK with all of you, I'm going to incorporate this story into it. I've left off Spetyco's story at the tavern reading the parchement, then when when this is all done, I'll pick it up wherever we leave off here. Read it and give me your input. I'm not as talented a writer as many of you, and not yet familiar with Yliakum, so I would appreciate any input.

Hope no one minds too much about my post, a certain someone said she was feeling a tad disapointed that I didn't include myself in the story, so I'd figured I'd do a little something to cheer her up. Hope it isn't too long, I tried to just create a mini self contained story all the while without stepping on anyones elses toes. I can't join the fun any more than that I'm sorry to say, RL won't let me have that type of time right now, maybe laters I can. Have fun all.
Oh, the napping is my way of explaining why the old menki isn't seen in game much. /me wonders if anyone even knows Ben to begin with.

Oh wow the story is taking a creepy, scary kind of turn. :love: my favorite!
It would be really awesome, and adding a new twist to the story ... if someone in the community could play an evil mage (Or something), and for whatever purposes our group has a fate to stop him/her or he/she has to stop us for some reason or other. I am not trying to plan the roleplay so much as give ideas. I just see a prefect opportunity for someone to fit themselves into the story. What do the story tellers and the rest of the community who reads the story think?

Here's a thought, tell me what you think. If you've read Spetyco's background you would know that he was found four days ago injured, left for dead, and someone has stolen his memories. He knows his name but little else. And he has recurring dreams of darkness. So maybe whatever dark force has done this to our dear jolly clumsy Spetyco is behind all of this. He was also found, and brought to Hydlaa by a mysterious elf name Rehaus. Maybe he led Spetyco to Hydlaa purposefully so he would join the campaign.
Just a thought.
Or Spetyco could just be stuck on himself and he thinks everything is about him, when it's not.

Well I am going with the flow. I can't really come up with what to say at the moment, and I have been pretty active in the story from the start, so I am just letting zorbels rest a little. :P I will let you guys create the mood and story path, I am coming along for the ride.

I get the impression from the forum that there are few truly evil characters around. Maybe I should give it a shot, not what I had in mind originally though and given my background story, if it turns out that way, I don't know I'm evil yet. At this point I'm pretty naive...

OK! Spetyco isn't the villian. What Laragorn sees could not have been Spetyco because he was elsewhere at the time. See his story for more details. But the evil one looks like Spetyco. A twin maybe? or maybe something even more devious? Maybe it's...
BTW! Our villian is taking form, but what might his goal be? I'm at a bit of a loss here.

I am not sure? I don't want to plan it out to much otherwise it won't be fun but, I say go for whatever feels comfortable to you to write. I am game for whatever. As for his goal I don't know what it would be, revenge on someone? Just likes to rein terror on people? He needs warrior blood to call upon spirits that he wants to aid him on taking over hydlaa? *Zorbels shrugs* That is all I can come up with at the moment. I will think upon it some more.

I like it. It fits more with what I originally planned for Spetyco. We'll just see how things go from here.

I say whoever the bad guy is had a party of ulbers on their way to the magic shop, maybe to retrieve an item. We can only find out once the scouting party makes it there. and about who is behind this, i say we let another player be the enemy (or join spetyco at it) or if nobody else joins then create one ourselves as the story unfolds. i have the impression laanx's style is more like "strike the nuissance (and may this be a lesson to all)" instead or "torment the little creatures"... :-\ but i'll go with whatever you feel is best. :lol:

Me too and I agree. Plus I don't know about you guys, but even though Zorbels is strong, she sure can't take a god, :P especially the one she worships, which happens to be lannx.

I guess it depends what you find in my bag. Keep in mind that whatever it is, I wasn't aware of it at first, so it must be hidden. But I've begun to have some memories returning, slowly, and that's why I was after it.
I think I may still have an evil villian hidden within me somewhere...

Laragorn is a dermorian, and speed is his only tallent (well so far), he has no fighting ability as you can see with his first attack, he was impaled by an ulbers claw.

...Spetyco is a clumsy Ylian, who has a nasty habit of falling into caves full of gobbles.
Where he happens to be right now if anyone cares!

The point is Farren was the Master Ranger and only Enkidukai will outrun him... such as Zorbels. Or Zhai, who is even faster, and the new Master Ranger (or Lady of the Rangers as she likes being called). Aside from that, Farren has likely been around longer than you, meaning he has had more time to hone his abilities. Especially running.

No one knows Laragorns history, you dont know his age , occupation, or anything else other than what has been seen in the last 2 days.

Farren I am thinking an enki could out run you easy. Our race was built for speed.
I agree with Laragorn, you seem to write yourself as good at everything. That isn't a compliment, more than a could you tone it down plea. I am not trying to insult you, but I think this should be team work, not Farren always comes to the rescue. I enjoy your writing and would like to see your character be a little more demorian and a little less godly. Your style of writing fits into the story well, and I hope you veiw this post as me just trying to help. For example when you were chasing Laragorn maybe write in that you stumble on a rock and lose time catching up to him, and then you have to work harder to catch him. Sometimes the good guys don't always catch the bad guys as well.
I hope that helps. Anyway I will let Farren and Laragorn lead the way on this chase.

items used in previous rps regarding mind control or spirit possession are weapons, crystals, apples, and potions. it could also be something that links you to a dark guild (like guild seal or book or again a weapon or something of the sort) with no magical properties but a strong statement to bare. that way you wouldn't necessarily be evil but you'd still have a dark past.

:) Andrek this post looks funny, I only say this because the book hasn't been mentioned yet (I mean out loud by a character). Laragorn still has yet to come back to camp and tell us of his findings. If you could make your post in the story fit in a little better, I would really appreciate it. Maybe you could run into Laragorn as he tries to understand what the book is about? Just throwing out suggestions.

Another thing that personally I have an issue with is someone joining in and not know what the heck is going on. Please read at least a page of what is going on before posting. As much as this story doesn't have to follow realisim as it is fantacy, posting a scene and just popping up out of no where with no explantion kind of leaves the rest of the story tellers with a big question mark over their heads and wondering how to work around such posts. Truthfully it isn't fair. If you want the story tellers to respect and read your writings please do the same for others.
I was going by this post. I realised I did the above by just jumping in without first informing I was going to do so. I used to RP in forums & IRC a long time ago (about 8 years I think) and Im feeling really rusty at detailing the scenes and my actions, I have very little skill in writting storys.
But what the hell, I have nothing to loose. I'll give it my best shot :woot:

Odessa...just got back on to see your posts. I would have come up from the basement of the magic shop to greet you but after the action with Levrus, I felt that I should wait before posting more on my end to see how others further the story.... I will eventually get Xylaal up the stairs though (we could meet you then. if you want :) ) but also like Zorbels said, going to find the camp is an option too...what ever you want to do...your writing style is very fresh! C'mon and play more if you can ;)

I have Odessa moving into and through the wooded hills, its about a 2 hour travelling distance so I guess she's bound to encounter someone... or something ;D. I like to gradually work in my characters with a little intro, dance, song etc lol.
Were all feeding off each others imagination here... its so inspiring and refreshing.

Zorbels hears Farren dragging Spetyco up as close to the fire as he can. "What happened to him?" she looks at Farren with a confused expression and awaits him to answer.
Farren catches Spetyco as he falls. "Spetyco? Oh dear..." he says, concern on his face. He heaves the other into his arms, barely being able to hold the weight and still move properly, and heads towards the magic shop.
So should I change my post? It came before yours Farren. I am not sure why you missed it but I can change it or you can change yours. Let me know.

ok, just added room for another villain... so far it's just Zhai's conclusion it doesn't have to be that way but i thought the book should conjure a far more powerful creature than an ulber... just a thought. so, i suggest we have the one who actually stole the book from Levrus and the one who sent the ulbers. Let me know what you think. ;)

This is how things are playing out with Spetyco. There is an evil conjurer, who's history we've yet to uncover, who is after the book. Spetyco is somehow linked with this conjurer, again yet to be revealed, and he discovered this conjurer's plan to steal it. In order to protect it he steals it himself. It seems that Spetyco is the only one who can wield the power of the book, and since he will not bow to this conjurer, the evil one's plan is thus to take over Spetyco's body. He needs time to prepare to do this, so he first steals Spetyco's memory to put him out of comission before he takes over his body. He doesn't know Spetyco has already stolen the book, so he conjures a pack of ulbers to retrieve the book. Then we all run into the ulbers, and so on...

Spetyco has gained all of his memories back. He is good after all, or at least mostly. He usually has the good of Yliakum in mind in all he does, but he is willing to bend the rules, or even break them. He will do what others might consider distasteful things for the greater good. And thus he has knowledge of the dark way of magic.
Is this realistic? I don't want my lack of knowledge of PS to interfere with the RP'ing reality of the story. Thanks for your input thus far helping me shape Spetyco's character.

@spyke01, Thats a good start but you may want to change your post a little, Laragorn is a long way from the others. He is in a valley unconcious. maybe check out one or 2 pages back, instead of just the last one. Dont take this wrong, i am just looking for continuity. :)

In case anyone is new, or hasn't been following along for awhile, Spetyco is now two people. One evil, one good. The evil one has transported his soul from his body into Spetyco's body. So the Spetyco in front of you now is evil. The other good Spetyco that you've come to know and love so far is in his mortal enemies body somewhere in the gobble cave, he thinks. The body is unconscious and Spetyco is unable to wake it. His consciousness is trapped in some kind of endless darkness. Spetyco, the good Spetyco, is trying to telepathically reach out to you or whoever will listen to warn you. Is there anybody who can hear him?

Before he looks into it, Laragorn feels he is being watched. He jumps up looking around and sees nothing. As he tries to settle himself; a Pterosaurs With a rider descend from the crystal above. Slowly Laragorn reaches in the pouch and removes its contents. A cloth bound book, covered with the same material as the pouch is revealed. The book is covered with patterns and letters foreign to him. Just as he is about to open the book, the Pterosaurs sweeps down and grabs it from his hand. Atop of the creature is a cloaked figure. The cloak flowing in the wind is made of the same material as the book and pouch.

The whereabouts of the red book:
It was in the magic shop, but Spetyco, the good one, stole it to keep it away from the evil one. It was in his pack when the evil one took his memories, but the evil one did not know that, so he sent the ulbers to get it. Later Spetyco, the good one, dropped his pack when he fell in the gobble cave and forgot about it. Then Laragorn ended up stealing it, Farren chased him down, but Laragorn took the book before Farren caught up. Laragorn gave the pack to Farren but continued running with the book. When he stops he pulls the book out and looks at it, then the evil Spetyco flying on a Pterosaur attacks Laragorn and gets the book back. But if you remember the magic shop keeper said only one could wield the power of the book, and that one happens to be the good Spetyco. So the evil Spetyco (sorry I haven't got a name for him yet), has been working on a plan to take over the good Spetyco's body. He flies quickly to the gobble cave, fyi there's another entrance, then places himself in the innermost parts of the caves with the gobbles under his control, and his big disfigured henchman guarding him. He then casts a spell that switches bodies with the good Spetyco. His henchman then takes a pack with the book and all of the evil Spetyco's glyphs and gives it to the Pterosaur, who is also under his control and at the right time flies it back to the evil Spetyco in the good Spetyco's body.

I hope this isn't too farfetched in the realm of Yliakum, but I thought it was making a good story.
So it appears everyone now suspects Spetyco. They can tell something has changed. And the good Spetyco is trapped somewhere in the gobble cave in some sort of hibernation trying to call out for help telepathically.
Hope that clears some things up. Especially for the newcomers.

Laragorn has given you detailed instructions where the other cave entrance is, and has told you how to kill the body that you find. which the good spetyco is in. it will send them to the death realm for their battle or whatever it is will happen.

No I am approaching the camp and I am very close. Don't worry about adding sataynes name in, he hasn't been able to post in awhile I suppose. Farren is at the camp and Spetyco (The evil one) escaped. Anduin is on his way to camp with Laragorn. Easton,Siteri, and Hokinon are at the camp.

The false Spetyco looks over to Farren and grins, "My good friend, Farren. I apologize for snapping at you." The words seem sincere, but the eyes scream of hate. He grins even wider at Farren, then gives him a wink, and points up. They both look up and flying overhead is a riderless Pterosaur carrying something in its claws. It drops its package which seems to float down directly into the false Spetyco's hands. "Oh my," he says with more than a hint of sarcasm, "look what has dropped from the sky. It's my book! And I think this is my pouch of glyphs."
At that moment a huge fireball comes down heading directly towards Farren.
Just before it hits, the false Spetyco disappears!

spetyco: how are the gobbles and henchmans hearing, are there many shadows nearby, is the cave torch lit, wide walls with crevices, anything i can use to my advantage?

We haven't gone into any details about the cave. We've been in a different entrance then the one you'll be using, so you can describe it as you want. I am trying to get to a big battle between everybody and the big snake, but there's some details that need worked out still. I've got to go back and edit some of my posts because I've found out they don't fit, then I'm taking the big snake to the campsite. We have a battle, and then...

Zhai has pointed out some mistakes I've made and some things that needed clarified, so I've gone back and edited some of my posts. Here's the edits:
The cloaked figure on the Pterosaur flies quickly to the mouth of a cave after having attacked Laragorn.. He takes the book and puts it in his pack along with his glyphs and other treasures. The figure then enters the cave to be greeted by an army of gobbles and his lone henchmen. "Good! All is prepared. Everything has come together even better than I could have planned. It seems that fate is playing into our hands." He laughs wildly then enters the cave. He moves quickly, knowing that time is of the essence. He finds the spot prepared for him and lies down. He pulls out the glyphs prepared especially for this purpose. Then to his henchmen he says, "Once I am unconscious take these and put them in my pack along with the book and give it to my Pterosaur. He knows what to do from there." Then the figure begins to utter something...
As Farren and Spetyco walk back towards the campsite, Spetyco cries out, then falls to the ground uncounscious. At first he appears dead to his companions but he is still breathing and has a pulse; however, he is completely unresponsive to their efforts to revive him...
As the dark figure becomes uncounscious his follower gathers everything in the pack and takes it to the Pterosaur. It then flies off, circling the campsite high enough not to be noticed.
Spetyco finds himself in a dark place. There was a foul stench in his nostrils, but as far as he looked in every direction there was nothing but darkness.
"Hello, Spetyco!" an other-worldly voice calls behind him. Startled he whirls around to see the hooded figure with his face.
"I had hoped we would not meet again. To see my face on someone such as yourself disgusts me," and the vile creature spits onto the ground. "But here you are!"
"Wh... Who are you!" Spetyco demands. Then memories come flooding back. As they do Spetyco stands taller and a grim look comes over his face.
"You! You thought you could get rid of me so easily!"
hopefully that will clear up who the rider was, and so on... Now about the serpent. I thought it was a portrait, but it is actually the body of the snake hanging in the magic shop :oops:. Thank again Zhai for point that out. So I've made the following edit:
Elsewhere, the false Spetyco in a seculded area near the magic shop begins to summon the spirit of the great searpent Zhai who's body hung in the magic shop.
The real Spetyco grows tired but continues to try to contact someone, "Is there anyone out there? Can you hear me?"
and a little later:
As the huge serpent rises from the magic shop the false Spetyco laughs wildly! "No one can stand in my way now!" He climbs onto the serpent and they head towards the campsite. "First we shall take care of those meddlesome 'campers'. Then I'll make all of Yliakum bow to me, or die!"
On the way he sees a lone diablo heading towards the campsite. He considers killing her, just for his own amusement, but decides he must stay focued. "Onward!" he cries.
Let me know if I've made any other such obvious mistakes. I'm new to PS, so I've got alot to learn still.

Well, I got an entrace lol. Running towards the camp like a mad woman screaming her horns & tail off.
Does this coinside with events?. I had to think carefully about how to rewrite my post but didnt want to go over board with details and Odessa needs to be at the camp site before the serpent hits... Phew!.
[EDIT: I added a few minor details like because Odessa left her boots back at the rock she was sitting on she had trouble climing up the muddy bank and slipped, running through the stream didnt help matters ethier lol]

Well the update is here and I am completely consumed with exploring. I think it is safe to say this story will be slowing down. I would like to begin to ending of this story, as Spetyco roleplay fits perfect for the part. @Spetyco: Please do not worry to much about planning the events. There is enough information for others to read, if they don't have their posts fit into the story and cannot change them, they will be deleted. I think it is safe to assume that everyone at this point knows what is happening, now it is just a matter of finishing what we started.

Whilst I understand that this was a time killer and everyone has other/better things to be doing else where or in-game (:devil:) I believe I speak for many (don't I?) when I say Its disappointing to hear this highly enjoyable adventure is coming to a close.
I forgot how enjoyable forum RP was... *sighs in past memory's*.
Well, any case I would like to thank you all for making this a most pleasant and memorable adventure.
Many of you I don't know or haven't had the pleasure of RP'ing in-game with you yet, I hope that changes in the near future.

This story has been amazing and the first I have found on these forums, where multiple writers put work into it and manage to keep it going and enjoyable to read. I have enjoyed this story greatly. Problem is all stories must come to an end. I am not saying that we have to stop writing stories on the forums (providing the mods won't mind us doing so, space might be an issue?). I am only saying this one has to come to a close. It is 24 pages long, a fine length for a short story about characters from Yliakum. I would encourage this story telling on the forums, and even join in as I have found a passion for writing. Something I owe to planeshift. New stories with different plots, story tellers, and idea's would be more than welcome in my books.
Also please note, this was not a time killer for me. This wasn't made up to kill boredom while the community waited on the client. I wanted to do it for many reasons. Eolius had this idea for the protectors forums, and we found the story to go wonderfully. This inspired me to try in on the main ps forums, which was the start of my reasons which grew as the story here did. I wanted to invite all roleplayers of planeshift to introduce their characters, and get to know one and other. To see a story formed by many peoples writings and add to the community. To test and see how well, if at all it would work. For me to contribute to this project and introduce yet another way to support rolepaly in this community. I think this would be a wonderful story for newbies to read and get an understanding of how roleplaying works in planeshift. I don't know about you guys, but my writings in this story are how I would act in planeshift and close to what I would type in the chat box. Only difference is it wouldn't be as polished, and probably have many spelling error's knowing me and my excited clicky fingers. :P
Please, don't stop writing because this particular story came to an end. Lets start a new one. (Again if it isn't an issue with the forum mods.) Thanks for joining in on this project everyone, I do hope to see you in another story soon. ;)

Laragorn, I'm not sure that works out well. According to the guy in the magic shop, the book was needed to summon the big snake. Which I did, so... I couldn't have summoned the snake without the book.

I though that the real Spetyco essence is down in the gobble pit in some unknown body .... while the evil one posses Spetyco real body? I was thinking that all we need to do is slice spetyco up to weaken him so that the "good" Spetyco could take back over his body, then he can destroy the book, or something along the lines of that. Other wise the two spetyco's don't make sense?

The evil guy looks like Spetyco, and the two of them have an uknown connection, that I plan on writing a different story about. He switched bodies with the real Spetyco, so if you kill the real Spetyco's body, the real Spetyco's soul dies. If you kill the evel one's body, his soul dies. That's why he's hidden his body away and set guards in place, though they were less competent that he expected. Make sense?

I just read what was written and I like it alot. My only concern is others who want to have a final say in this battle as well. They may want to have something to kill, or be included in the ending as well...... Not sure what do you guys think?
[Edit] Maybe the campers could team up on the evil spetyco?

OK! Bad guys dead, but the huge serpent is still coming. BTW, Laragorn, it's just one. It's the serpent from the magic shop. It's big, and supposedly can fly as well. I'm not sure what other abilities it has. So here's your final battle.
And you might have someone hurry to try to help the real Spetyco's spirit return to his body, though I think Spetyco and Aphtarin should have a battle in the DR, or else Aptharin may come back. Maybe Xlaal could help with that battle? Then again, we could leave it open for Aptharin to come back in another story...
But for now I must go to bed.

\\o// Wooooo Hoooo! Well set up guys. Now everyone in the camp can have a peice of the snake well the "good" Spetyco fights the "evil" Spetyco. Write away peoples, I will follow lead with the snake and everyone's writings. I will also help close up the story if needed.

@Zorbels would you like to discribe what is happening to Aphtarin, since his real body is now dead. Zhai is working on leading Spetyco to his body, so we need to explain what is taking place.
Who is gonna give the first blow to the evil serpant?
Will they be able to stop this creature?
Will they survive ?
Or are they all doomed to die ?

Laragorn and Zhai! Who has the book? If you go back a little, Laragorn says he switched the real book for a fake one. So Zhai, you would need to get it from him, or else Laragorn needs to edit a few posts.
[edit] But Aphtarin never dealt with Levrus, he just summoned the snake and left quickly, so there's good chance Levrus was chasing after the snake. So he might show up soon...

- Yliakum Journeys (vol.1)
- Tales of Yliakum (Zorbels' idea but in plural so we give room for future tales and community stories, again with Vol1., Vol2.)
Now, if we want specific titles within the series:

I love books with titles that really don't describe what he book is about at all. Never judge a book by its cover you know.
