Ok this is on the main planeshift page http://www.planeshift.it/main_01.html
The update brings some new features, new skins and some new outdoor terrain. You will need a new client to connect, that will be provided in the download section on bittorrent in the next days.
See you soon!
[add your comments here]
You can click the "[add your comments here]" link and it brings you to a thread that has now been locked. This could confuse or repel new prospective players since it's telling you to add your comments but doesn't let you add your comments. So I guess if anybody with the privileges to modify the page cares they might consider changing that link text to something like "[view comments here]". I know this is small potatoes but it's still something i noticed. Have a good day.

Yeah, well if you didn't notice, the thing rambled out to 313 posts... three-hundred-thirteen freakin' posts! Mostly junk and whining... Sadly, we didn't get great comments. To stop the spam I locked it. Not really a big deal...
-
Yes personally it doesn't surprise me though because the link inviting people to post to the thread was on the PlaneShift websites main page which is probably visited constantly, so ofcourse it will have alot of posts. I don't think I posted there though... or maybe I did and I just forgot..... Oh well it doesn't matter. Take care

Yes, I noticed this anomaly too but was not surprised about the result. Threads with complaints are consistently locked. People must be grateful for the closed server.

I understand you irony Narita, but there is something to yet understand. The devs Invite you to play their game, it's not Your game. Now, I bring up a clich'e. It is old but is very true. You should be grateful for playing on this server, if the devs hadn't created this game you would never have played on the server, or anyone else. It is the devs who bring you the joy to play the game, they've creeated a place where a beautiful community can socialize.
I feel we're doing them a favour, of course, by playing it, But the devs are the ones that created this and they could've bugtested it themselves with carefully picked bug-testers and you should never have seen it until maybe 5 years later.
Now I lost the rest of the words but that should jujstify why it is worth waiting for a server and why I think it's totally unnecessary to whine because they will release it as soon as they can.

I agree most of your points, Baldur. But here we are in the forum, not in the game itself. The free speech is not encouraged and I don't see how handling a thread with contempt would make the game more enjoyable.
-
The "add your comments here" link directs people here to the forum. You should give readers' intelligence a little more credit. I am sure they can figure out how to post a new topic if the News item was locked for spam. :flowers:

We have forum rules that we want all members to follow, because they help promote intelligent, organized discussion. Spam has been and will always be discouraged, deleted, or simply stopped with a lock. No one likes reading through 9 pages of "OMG UPDATE! WHEN???", least of all me. Other forum threads have been created and left open about the update, so no one is preventing anyone from using their "free speech" and discussing the new features. But I want discussions, not Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages ;)
-
Where you see spam, I saw people showing their attachment to the game. Sure, most was not really constructive, but it's tough to be constructive knowing so few about what's happen. Such behaviour may not be sollicited but was certainly predictible because the circumstances. When nobody is forced to read or to agree anything it's free speech, when a thread is locked, it's not free speech.
-
Unfortunately, where a moderator sees spam, spam stops. As I already stated, nobody is preventing you from discussing the update. We are however going to prevent people from posting "just because they can" and "because there is nothing better to do".
-
First of all, if you can't be constructive then simply don't post.
Secondly, you have no free speech here. It's our server; we can lock and moderate anyway we need to. Free speech protects the owners of the medium, not the users. (no, we're not an ISP... don't start that pathetic rant again) We can lock/delete threads we deem inapropriate, and will do so. You do not have a right to post whatever you damn well please here. We do have a right to edit/lock/delete whatever we damn well please here.
Please, just don't spam and we won't have to lock/delete it.

DaveG has a habit of being very very very blunt about things :P
-
Ya don't say? Really? I never noticed. ;)
Serisously, don't spam and we won't lock/delete threads. Do spam, and we will lock/delete threads. It's that simple.
-
Sure, it's your servers, you have the rights to do whatever.
But I rather told about what it should be good to do, instead of what you have the rights or the power to do.
-
Thanks Narita, but I think I will continue to do the best thing instead of just the good, and prevent spam :) If you have any serious complaints about moderators, forward them to Vengeance.
-
We invite comments when we post news. We lock threads when they become pointless. I don't see the two things as mutually exclusive and I agree with the mods.
