Title: 0.3.015
Post by: Xordan on July 05, 2006, 02:59:16 pm
You can download a 'unofficial' 0.3.015 installer package for linux below. An official package will be released this month containing all the correct art, along with various bug fixes. Source tarballs will also be released at this time.

NOTE THAT THIS PACKAGE IS INCOMPLETE, BUT WILL ALLOW YOU TO PLAY TO SOME EXTENT.

You will be able to update anything that this package doesn't contain from the updater once it has all the new content!

If someone has a mirror, I can give them a limited download link to the linux package. You should be able to login to laanx with that package, even though it doesn't have all the art. Then people can seed it when we release a torrent ;)

Hey Xordan,
any plans on when the new source tarballs will be released? This would finally allow a gentoo ebuild for Planeshift (the new version). That would be great.
Thanks,
moHiJ

Ok. Thanks for the link Xordan!

For me the client is working and here you get the download link for the 0.3.015 linux binary
http://xrl.us/pslinux

Perhaps SovHead or Rawh want to host it, too?  :)

MD5SUM: 1ba347b77709097954a7bb840d50f54c  PlaneShift_CBV0.3.015.bin
(http://xrl.us/pslinuxmd5)

Have Fun  :D

Yours,
   Nill

EDIT: It seems the server disconnects for a short time at 80% so it can interrupt your download. Please use a download manager or wget (or whatever you want, that continues downloads)

First off, thank you very much Xordan for making this linux version of 0.3.015.  I was playing Planeshift last night on my Winblows *cough* I mean Windows computer. I brought myself to the new area with the waterfall.  This morning I downloaded the Linux client and installed it. I got all exited when it loaded up succesfully and then I clicked on join. It gave me this error:
<src/client/zonehandler.cpp:108> FindZone:
Fatal error: Could not find zone info for sector bdoorsin!

Fatal error: Could not find zone info for sector bdoorsin!

So I loaded it up again with an alt who was in Hydlaa and it was succesfull. So this is probably just a matter of getting a GM to move me maybe?

Anyway, thank you Xordan for the linux client.

Would you like to use a DHT torrent file (http://www.ligh.de/software/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.015.bin.torrent)? I can keep my uTorrent running over night at least.

I dl'ed this linux client and was surprised abaut that nice look yes its a real eyecandy thingie amongs other linux installers but...

when i start PS with ./psclient there are alot error messages appearing in the console output like missing files in world directory

another strange thing is that the cursor is jumping around instead of moving slowly and the loadtimes are much longer than in windows

i've tested the windows installer and didn't have those errors

should i wait for the update server to get updatet?

Hmm, in Azureus your torrent gives me a NULL Pointer Exception ... :-(

to the last question yes.

If you have strange errors with the file on trying to install it use
wget -c http://xrl.us/pslinux to download the rest of the file.
use
md5sum Pla*15* to check the md5sum

after installation go to www.psmirror.org and download the art.zip from the other dowload section of the page.
remove the art dir from the planeshift directory
extract the art dir from the zip in the planeshift directory

enjoy playing.

it runs smoothely for me though i had to redefine all my shortcut keys to match the shortcuts.xml file again ( the options from keys. xml and mouse.xml are NOT portable from previous versions !!! )

I do experience strange segvaults from time to time. But there IS a new psclient in the updater program it wont connect yet but i'm sure that after some other updates are fixed the correct version and an OFFICIAL release will be posted. For now as this is an UNOFFICIAL release for linux ( according to devs etc, ) its more then stable enough for me.

As I said in the first post, this package is _missing_ art content, hence some zones you won't be able to enter, and you will get various art errors. I will be providing a new installer when I get back from holiday containing all the updated files. Until then, this package can be counted as a unofficial official beta alpha version :P

At least, it returned a "Sign of Life" from you! ;)

The official torrent file will be relased soon, anyway. So ... dump it.

Maybe it's just me, but using this "unofficial" client + art.zip freezes my system (Gentoo, amd64) after loading the world and region, just before it should show the world and HUD. There's no apparent error to be seen (or it freezes up just before the error would be outputed to the console).

Anyhoo ...just thought you might want to know. It seems I'll just have to wait a few days for the official. 's not a biggie  :flowers:

Hi,
I build the client on gentoo AMD64 myself and it's nearly working flawlessly. The only annoying thing ist that I can't use me inventory. Any click in the inventory screen (except close it  ;) ) causes my psclient to segfault.

But,NICE WORK !!!

Ok, thanks for the reports guys.

An official installer plus a binary update will be made/released around the 15th (when I get back home). I will take a look at some of these problems if they aren't already fixed and make sure everything works smooth for you all! That crash when you see a dead body is fixed and will be in that update :) Until then, just try and avoid dead bodies.

First of all, to Xordan and the planeshift devs: great work!  Things are looking really good and it's exciting to have new
areas to explore.

Now, in the "shaking out the glitches" dept:  I'm seeing a weird thing and wondering if it's just me, just the linux client,
or everyone.  When approaching the Bronze Doors, the map fails to load and a dialogue pops up telling me so.  However,
so long as I don't click "OK" I can wander through the whole area just fine.  Albeit with inverse tunnel vision due to the
dialogue :-)  Has anyone else encountered this?

Cheers,
Xanthan

I believe this to be due to the missing zoneinfo for bronze_doors (./data/zoneinfo.xml)..  If anyone has the file from the windows distro, please upload! :)

I am not sure if this bug has been reported yet in this temporary version: with the Elven skin (I don't know with other skins), the bar with the big round buttons is cut if it surpasses the lower half of the screen. Just click in the double arrow to change the position of the bar so you can see the different layouts and you see in some of them the cut buttons that I mean.

I am using SUSE Linux 10.1 with a bigsmp kernel and 32-bit. Hope it is fixed in the final version  :)

There are a lot of metal checkerboard-patterned baskets in the beginning of old Oja road starting from Hydlaa. I also see some names of people cut. The options and help menus have the words inside them cut also.

Hi,

I just downloaded the client and tried to create my first character, a Klyros. When choosing this race I get the following message

The server sent an invaild model filename, please run the updater

After pressing the OK the client crashes. The other available races are okay. Is it a known issue and will it be fixed in the official client?

Thanks in advance

I think it means you are missing some art. WHere did you get your art and did you get a data folder with it?

I got the client from http://xrl.us/pslinux. I also dowloaded art.zip from www.psmirror.org as mentioned in this thread and exchanged it.

(My old post disapeared? Why that?)

Peacer if you were using the link i posted, try using for example:
wget -c http://xrl.us/pslinux

You'll probably need a download program/manager which is capable to continue interrupted downloads, so you don't have to redownload the whole thing.
(See the "EDIT:" in the post.)

The problem is known but it can't be changed at the moment. I am sure some time in the future it will be corrected.

If you use kde, simply try to download the file again and chose resume when asked.

Maybe were just better off using WineHQ and the win client untill a more stable release comes out  ???

has anyone actually tested it under wine or cedega? We might be better off just building it from the cvs for now

I have run the windows client under windows, and successfully under wine in linux.  I prefer the linux version to both as I find weird issues with mouse look in windows, and running the windows client under wine some graphics are missing from the interface for some reason....

So if it's a last resort it should work for you (I have no special setup for wine...just the defaults) but I much prefer the native linux client.

Yesterday my client told me there were updates,
so I ran the ./updater.

And I had something strange happening: when I used a mug (I went for a drink to the Taverne) and put it back, it remained visible on my characters inventory right hand. When I did a 3rd person view, the mug was on the ground between my feet (looked funny, it stayed there while walking).

Should I restore the graphics with the art.zip file and stay away from the updater for now?

[EDIT]  Of course I shouldn't have used the installer. My fault, restoring the original install + art.zip solved it!!  [/EDIT]
