Title: spell book
Post by: Voldengrath on January 24, 2003, 12:49:14 am
I for one would like a spell book

If you lose it, no one else can use it with out knowing its proper spell to open it.

You can find it anywhere with just reciting a spell you would memorize especially for that book.

Also, you can make your cover out of your book out of anything.

For example. mine would be out of a creatures flesh.

not a bad idea. Maybe depending on the type of material the book is made from, you could place an enchantment on the book.

does it really matter? :)

anyway, I was thinking if we end up having spellbooks... instead of the crappy Everquest \"progress meter\" style of scribing, there could some sort of puzzle or arangement of symbols or phrases.  Put the phrases in the correct order to successfully scribe the spell... in the incorrect order, the scribing fails.  You can always ask someone who has already scribed the spell the proper order of phrases, or positioning of symbols, etc.

whadda ya think?

exactly what I was thinking, and to cast that spell you have to type in that spell on the game like:

Kort orus palus mignonus

and that would cast a spell.

or, if its easier you have a command:

/spell Kort orus Palus Mignonus etc etc.
Title: no.

why do people want to type everything?  I can send you a copy of Zork if thats what your into.  We live in an age of GUIs (graphical user interfaces) where most of our actions are done with a point and click.  Hotkeys are also preferable IMO over typing.

ok, if you type the spell wrong, if fizzles, and the amount of time it takes you to cast/type the spell is realistic... but I would be much happier in a world where spells were cast instantly and never fizzled.

and what about those players who have to look and peck at the keyboard to type?  must they all play a different game?

sorry, I dont mean to be so dissagreeable... this is just my opinion :)

Hotkeys are definatnately more convienient and easier. My suggestion though, is a system like Ultima Online. You drag the spell icon from a spell book anywhere on the screen. you can then double click the spell icon and pick the target. You can still have casting time etc, but this way casting spells would be eisier and more enjoyable.
