Title: Repeated crashing at Ojaveda region boundary
Post by: Springo on July 07, 2006, 12:07:54 pm
This post may belong in Development but I will start in the OSX forum first.  I have been playing for a couple of hours now, starting from the Arena.  I have made my way to the Ojaveda road in the canyon where the region loading starts.  A couple of seconds into the load and crash.  Everytime I restart the client, it fails two thirds of the way into the load.  The client failure and occured 7 out of 7 times now.

So I am stuck.  What can I do?

OSX 10.4.7 - 1.9GHz iMac (PPC)
Springo
Thanks

Do you mean the old ojaroad? I crash when I enter the Bronze Doors loading zone.

I should tell you that  Odjevada has moved. it is in the opposite direction now. Where It once was is the bronze doors reagion.  Yeah. For some reason the Mac client cant load  the bronze doors region. This happened to me. Try and get a GM to move that character out of the bronze doors region. The Mac team are working to fix it at the moment. Patience  and all things will come.

All i did was change some settings, and now it is working. I accidentily put on load all maps and keep them loading. Once I turned them off, they worked.

worth trying...

Thanks.  I had already read about the Bronze Door region not loading, but didn't know where that was.  To be clear, there are no bronze doors at the region loading point.  Ojaveda is not in sight but my character is clearly walking on a well worn path in a tight canyon getting close to the city.

"Medic!  The grunt yells.  'I need an angel (GM)".

There doesn't seem to be a loading screen picture for the Bronze Doors yet, which is why the loading screens in that direction show Ojaveda instead. I repeat, THAT IS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR OJAVEDA.

Yeh i have the same problem with going to the Bronze doors, it crahses. Ojaveda is in the oposite direction threw a diferent gait in the city. I hope the devs will fix the error with the Bronze Doors soon but there are bound to be many errors with any new big release and im shure they got enough on their plates than no cater to our (players) every problem.

thats just my 2 cents worth  :flowers:

The problem has now been found and a fix will be available in the future (hopefully this weekend).  Thanks for all the reports, and to Torzigg for being able to test the working solution!

Maybe a silly question, but how am I supposed to ask help from a GM if my character is stuck in the loading region of the bronze doors (what has actually happened)?

Several solutions :

1 - ask a GM on IRC
2 - just update with updater.app or updater.jar ;)

Ok, updating didn't change the problem. How can I get to the IRC channel? I'm kinda new at this.

I suggest you do a seach on the terms "irc" and "instructions" and you will find the GM advice location in IrC.

I've made that same mistake going where I thought Ojaveda was.  I went thru the area where the region loaded, and now im sitting here watching the spinning ball on my Mac. I have ran the updater before I've done this...any possible suggestions on getting out of this mess would be greatly appreciated  :)

Oh, forgot to mention : 1.8 gig iMac G5, 2 gig memory, Mac OSX 10.4.7

If you've successfully updated in the last few days then you *shouldn't* get stuck on the load.  If things stall for longer than 5 minutes then the tail end of console.log would be appreciated (20-30 lines)

Another problem has now surfaced....since I updated Planeshift, the game loads...and loads..... Then I hear the background music that I usually hear when wandering near Ojaveda- problem is, the status screen is still up, and the status bar at the bottom is full. I end up having to force quit out of the game.

Any suggestions on what I can do next? Thanks :D

if this is just the oja region, you can request a teleport by a gm :D

Note that this is actually near the Bronze Doors region, not Ojaveda (as indicated by the log).  For some reason it seems to be going in an infinite loop (or doing somethign very time consuming) - how long have you tried leaving it?

I've watched if for a couple minutes (around 5)....music played but the same loading splash screen....

I've since that last post got "teleported" by Cha0s (Thanks again!)....but hopefully the log I've previously posted will be of some help for a future bug fix!

Glad to help. I've heard that sometimes this happens just the first time and then it's fixed... now I don't know for sure... but feel free to give it another go. If you get stuck there again, I'll port you out. Just make sure to post here! :)
