I've compiled a release for all! I don't know how well it works but its usable for me. Get it here:
(url deleted since his password was included in the package--Vengeance)
or grab it from the mirror like so:

Its a small download. Once it is extracted (it just extracts to the directory you place the .run in) you'll need to copy over the art and data directories from somewhere else, i.e. psmirror.org. The best option there is to download the full version (it includes windows binaries but who cares) and copy the art and data directories out of that package. They are verified to work. I have a package including art but I don't know if I am allowed to distribute it (prolly not).
This client uses a patched crystalspace to work with the latest stable cal3d from svn and that patch also contains some performance enhancements.
Also, don't run the binaries psclient_static, pssetup_static, etc, run the scripts psclient pssetup and updater to launch those respective programs.
P.S. When it fails to work and crashes and burns let me know :D

Is this one any better than the first one by Xordan? Possibly more recent? The issues I'm having are with inventory related crashes and combat glitches, mainly. Not sure if these probs are present in the windows distro. Some of my maps are also off on lighting, but eh. Relight takes forever and pssetup seems broken for this task.
My compiled CVS version isn't working... maybe something to do with the versions of the framework? I'm on amd64 and followed the CVS guide with no compilation errors. Multiple times.. :/
Otherwise good to go with Xordan's installer. ;)

This binary was compiled using cvs head from yesterday for planeshift and standard build dates for cs and cel, well svn revisions I guess not dates :D . Anyways for me it is much more stable and includes the fix for the dead body crash as well.

This probably won't work for people who don't have quite a new version of their OS or who aren't using dapper :P, but will definately work for people using dapper :D

Working here. Very nice! No more inv crashes! Combat glitches still present, however. :whistling:

Xordan is right it requires a rather recent glibc (2.3.6) but most newer distro's should have this. its compiled static, and all libraries are included that I could think of (using xordans as a reference and even snagged some out of it). Also in addition to the combat glitches which affect pretty much everyone now, I believe some people have a segfault when trying to edit shortcuts. Otherwise all is good.

I just downloaded this client from (link deleted -Vengeance) and the art from http://www.psmirror.org/psfull015.tgz. When I start it now, a email adress is entered in the Account-field and a matching password too. I can log in and play with some characters. I don't think this was intended, was it?

I got the PM, but all I did was fix psclient.cfg and go on. I"m not so distrusting that I think someone would misuse and hijack my account and steal stuff I suppose. To me it was just less important I guess.

Ok, as it looks like that Induane solved this little problem.
You can get it again from:

The problem with the other link was that xrl.us had a little server problem yesterday so it couldn't resolve the short link to the download adress that was for all xrl.us links. It seems to be fine again.

If you can build a new client which is compatible with the server that'd be great. Everyone with older distros will have to wait until the weekend when I can release a new version.

now im confused... 2 days i got "fragnetics failed" - then found out that the mirrorlinks lead to an old version... finally found this one and now, that i have version 015, i can't login because i don't have the "correct version for this server"? ??? :(

After the last update we faced a very bad bug. Basically all newly created chars had the ability to train at no cost. This resulted in people with 150 in sword after 20 minutes of play.
Today we deleted all characters created after 2006-07-04 (yyyy-mm-dd) to fix that issue. Sorry but was necessary to be fair with other older chars.

Just to review in case someone missed it:
To use:
Download the file from the link above.
make the file executible. Either right click on it and hit properties and select permissions and check the execute box. Or chmod a+x *.run
run the file, it extracts a directory named planeshift. It is a complete setup minus art directories. Download the art tar.gz from www.psmirror.org
extract that file and place the resulting art directory in the planeshift directory created by teh .run you ran earlier.
To play planeshift, run psclient by either double clicking or from a commmand line: ./psclient

Not sure. :D Make sure your drivers aren't just installed, that they are enabled. What kind of video card do you use and what procedure did you follow to install the drivers?

I guess there is more information on your console, so give us more details. Or, if You have not much experience with running PS on Linux, wait several days for official client, which should work immediately after installation.

I have answered to similar question in -> the other thread (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24351.0), but since You are second person in short time (and in whole forum history) with similar problem, it may be possible, that Induane's version is not universal and may not work on all Linux distributions. You could try to remove some of librarier from directory planeshift/lib, so psclient would use those installed in your system (files starting with "libX" are good candidates). Or, as I have already mentioned, wait for official release.

Does the script used by this 0.3.15 version for some reason chown -R root:root the directory you run it from?
I certainly didn't do that and the only thing I've run is that installer.
edit - just tried again and yes it does.

This was really just figured out by accident since I had expected the gui installer to pop up and ran it as root.
Basically it chown -R's the current directory to whatever user runs the file.
It would probably by wiser to have it chown only the files that it installs.

Files extracted by makeself ALWAYS have owner changed to user running the script. To avoid this add --nochown to command line.
Morc, blame yourself. You should not run installer as root. It is unneeded and unsafe. Induane could add for example "rm -rf /" to the default script executed after extraction, just for fun :D.

A gui? As far as i know only Xordan packages are using a gui for the installation process. Induane is using a textmode installer (Makeself)

Induane provides this unofficial installer till Xordan has the time to make the official one. Nobody is saying that it will work for all distros. It would be nice to know where it is working and where not. And here are many people who are understanding you, zoople.
The new official linux package should be out in a few days (soon(tm)). Till then you could try to compile the client from the source or using a precompiled one like Induanes.
By the way. Induanes client is available via wget -c xrl.us/psinduane again

Hehe no worries. It was all in good fun. I understand your point but for me this way is just easier. If I was the official packager then it would matter more.

This is probably due to missing art.
Get all the art from http://psmirror.org/ and put in the art/ folder in your planeshift directory.

If you read my initial release post it say you need to download the art. I'm not legally allowed to distribute it.

I just found this game today.. and I have downloaded it.. everything starts but I believe that its the 3.14 client... when is it expected that the official 3.15 client will be released. Also can the game be played with out updating????

I am having trouble with planeshift.
It says I am running the incorrect version for this server. I am using the unofficial 3.15 client posted in this thread.
It did work,.... last week. Today when I opened it, it complained about the version.
I re-extracted planeshift_cb_.3.15_unofficial_by_induane.run, but still the same error.
What's wrong?

I just checked it and it is working for me.
When have you downloaded the file?
Not long ago the client was updated to be able again to connect to the server (that was on July 13).
Is the md5sum of the file the following? 5549a9ab515feb91604f84de5d4ae27d planeshift_cb_.3.15_unofficial_by_induane.run
(Try to run the following command to check it: md5sum planeshift_cb_.3.15_unofficial_by_induane.run )
If yes, it should work with the server else you should download the file again.

yep thats definately my old client. A redownload should get you the updated one as Nill stated. Not long after I released the first client, some bugfixes went in and the netcode was bumped.

I've made some small fixes to the installer and re uploaded it. Nill will probably have it mirrored soon. Its not really necessary unless Xordans installer is having problems for you or you don't want to actually install (this installer just creates a planeshift directory and doesn't make any symlinks, etc.). I'll have an updated client with the newer cal3d stuff later this evening (new cal3d changes increase performance).

Nill I've updated my client again.
Recent changes:
Now asks if you want to run the art updater... 1=yes 2=no
Uses latest stable Cal3d, and a patched version of CrystalSpace. The patch was needed to allow CrystalSpace to build while using the new cal3d. It also adds some performance improvements for some linux users. Rolenun's client went from 5 fps to 25 fps, though the average user may not notice speed gains of that magnitude.

You have changed version of Cg libraries since Your first unofiicial release, and I would give credit rather to this than to change in cal3d... But I may be wrong.

Changed versions of the CG Libraries? I used the tar.gz I keep on my usb stick.. I've only downloaded it once. :D
Also its not the changes in Cal3d that are supposed to help performance. Part of the patch I applied allows crystalspace to use current stable cal3d. The other part of the patch was supposed to help performance in crystalspace itself. Thus the increase in performace should be due to some changes to crystalspace...
but if you want to test that yourself ... check this out and see what happens:
