As for your video Datruth, I thought it was alright. To be honest it looked like alot of random shoots and didn't seem to have a theme other than being in planeshift or direction. I like the music though. Thanks for sharing.

I like some of the cuts and the music you used -- unless Linkin Park doesn't match the medieval setting of PlaneShift very well :P
BTW: Can you tell me the interpret of the second track?

If you mean who sung the second song, it was breaking benjamins follow me.
And the video did go with the song in certain parts, you have to look for them, watch it like 3 times and you'll see what i mean.
You see more discreet things about the video after you've watched it a couple times.
Think of them as goodies I added, that few will actually see and appreciate.

I finally saw the other planeshift movie, Jose' video - Evil Ways.
I also never claimed the title First PS movie.
If you read the title, it says First Planeshift Video made by me.
I haven't made a planeshift video before but i plan on making more in the future.
Personally i don't think Jose's video did justice to Planeshift, it had nothing to do with it.
I mean it was focused around the song, rather than the game.
I'd say that video did more grace to the song, rather than the game, and the game was just a tool to glorify the song.
I also think it is unfair to compare him to me.
He can manipulate the game in ways i can't.
He can get angles I can't.
He can control monsters for nicer shots, and i can't.
He also had an exstensive team to help him and i'm sure he has more experience in making videos than i do.
I did the best I could with what i had where i was.
That's all anyone can ask from anyone.
Best of all, i stuck to the heart of the video, Planeshift.
That's all you saw and all you felt.
It was planeshift in all it's beauty.
Next time i will try and encompass more of the game rather than just a few isolated parts.
But i still say my video is better than his, no offense, but that's just my opinion, and i enjoyed watching mine alot more.
I'm glad though, to see that we have a strong community here and a very talented one.
I want to see movies popping left and right now, that will only strenghthen the popularity of planeshift.
Again, i hope you all liked my video and thanks for watching it. :D

The title of your thread throws people off. It could be miss read ....... obviously this was the case.

Yep. English people are touchy with their grammar and weird worded titles ;)
Not that I'm English, but one could read it as "First PS Video" then added "made by me" as an after thought.
I would have preferred to have only one or at maximum two background musics over the whole movie, personally.
In my opinion the cuts show pretty good how PS looks like, but the RP, atmospherical, element should be a bit more emphasized.
Josephoenix made his movie on his own private PS server, and not on laanx. As administrator over his server, he also had the GM commands for the effects.
But i still say my video is better than his
I think one hardly can compare both with each other.
Yours was made on the laanx server, without all the effects and such and you did your best with the means you had at hand; Josephoenix had far more possibilities and less restrictions for his, and did the best he could. So you both tried the best with the means you had at hand.
You emphasized the look and feel of a player inside PS while he emphasized more the effects and atmosphere.
I want to see movies popping left and right now, that will only strenghthen the popularity of planeshift.

Agreed again. But I rather would like to see you guys working together on a bigger and better movie ever, combining your strengths rather than to see you two competing on completely different fields :)
Maybe Josephoenix will allow you to use his server and means for the next movie? Maybe you two can work out a plot together and realise it by pulling on the same rope?
That's what I would like to see more in the future: cooperation rather than competition in the community! At least we all are in the same boat! :)

I'm sorry if my last post seemed a bit defensive but i had gotten some bad comments on Irc and i was just addressing those.
i should know better to even go into Irc lol, but we all learn after time.
I would be happy to collaberate with him if he needs my help, i too would be astonished by the movie we would make.

It's not bad, the quality is good, although I find that it's quite random, as you always show something involving a rogue, and also find that some scenes were pointless. As for the music I can't comment on it, as my sister is sleeping in the room beside the one I'm in right now, and so I can't turn on the volume.
I use a program called Game Cam, it's a free download, and it's quite simple. The tutorial is very short, anyone can make it work.
You can google it, for I am too lazy to get a link.

A good first effort for sure. Scenes were randomly shot, no cohesive storyline or theme. The song reference to the sun played out really well and wish I saw more of a marriage with the music to the video but definitely don't want to discourage you from trying more.
You can get plenty of angles with free movement if you just experiment. In addition, if you had others to help you in your video, you could make it less first person and get better camera angles for the story line.
A few ideas:
-quest video... without the chat box of course to illustrate how to finish a quest. But i think that offers a good scenario. You can show the hardship, struggle, and reward of the less talked about part of PS.
-dueling video... build up a story between to characters prior to the actual duel, embelish the colors and effects, slow mo the action scene, and even get video from those in the duel, and from the crowd (they'd have to contribute video of course). I'd help participate as I always wanted a /videocapture function in the game. I've seen plenty of WoW ones out there and they're awesome.
-mystery, suspense, drama parody of some movie out there, with planeshift characters. starwars would be perfect for alot of the geeks on here. but could I recommend the movie se7en? It's a great film noir, and you can easily interject comedy into it.
This sounds like a lot of work, but the finished video would be awesome. you'd have to plan each scene obviously instead of just recording a bunch of video and pasting it to music.
Or maybe i'll just give these a try. Could you pm the direction of software and some pointers. I'm new at this.

Yeah... don't be afraid to use a sort of silent film format.. if you were to insert a storyline, it might make it easier for the viewer to follow if they could see what was being said or what has happened in the previous scene. i don't know..
i like the video. i have nothing new to add. but keep it up and don't take any crticism as personal. as a community i think we all appreciate any form of constructive acts for PS such as videos. good luck with future videos.

Yea, i got alot of comments on the theme thing.
Most people thought that i should incorporate more of a theme or message in my vids, so i thought about it about a week ago and decided on one.
I have the music and part of the storyline already figured out.
The main theme is death and loss.
It will show the life of two people who are soo close not even the god's could break the bonds of friendship they created.
Eventually a chain of events occurs that seperates the two and a reign of terror is brought down upon Planeshift.
That's just the skelton and i really don't have much meat yet, still working on it.
Getting videos right now, some nice angles, and trying to see if i can get some help from others.
The next one might be very long, being as another criticism was that most people thought the video was too short.
Hopefully all will work out as planned.
My release date is hopefully within August, if all goes well.
By the way, if you all want to create videos, just refer back to the first page, i posted a comment about the programs i used.
I also remember another person posting a program they use to film.
If you have any other questions, feel free to keep them coming.

I tried converting it to Avi, but it made the file bigger.
So i was going to use compression, something like divx, but it made it look really bad.
I'm not a whiz when it comes to changing file types.
If you want, send me a guide on how to convert the file for you, without making it a Gig in size lol, i'll do that and upload it.
I want everyone to enjoy it, even non window users.

I don't know if it was you who uploaded them, but generally people who make videos like to be asked before they're copied and spread all over the place. I don't mind in this case, since it wasn't anything extremely important (and I don't have much recourse in any case :P ), but it's a good thing to keep in mind >.>

Anyways, that's good they did, will help get my video out.
But they did put a negative spin on both of them.
The first one said:

The second:
" A rather strange and perhaps slightly boring Planeshift video tributing the guild leader Gharan Limitte".
If your expressing your opinon on a forum, i don't mind, but if your uploading the video, and they want a description.
Just describe the video, no one wants your opinion of it, just describe what it's about, who made it, and the theme.
Still, I'm glad they put it on, maybe next time i'll do it myself and put a better description.

It's ok, I like it better though when the video goes to the music. Basically all this is, is a video showing PS with music in it. In other words im not saying its not good but just saying anyone can do this. I just do not see anything special about it. But nice work either way.

I hope you watch it a few times, i incorporate alot of the song into the video, you just have to watch for it.
Please use more than few seconds to analyze it.
It goes along with the song, just cause it doesn't blatently do it, doesn't mean i didn't make it subtle.
Obviously it shows, one person says they completely got it, another says, it's just music and planeshift..... it's alot of hard work for people to just write off as music... and planeshift.... please watch it again and you'll see what i mean.

Your comments mean alot to me proglin, you are definetly one person who i respect highly.
I look forward to seeing your ideas for storyline and such.
I hope to improve my movies with all of your opinions in mind.
By the way, i hope you all saw my Gharan limitte video.
Also I'm working on another one so hold on tight and get ready for it, it will be released hopefully in Late september.

This is good, apart from at time it does seem to be some random shots. I liked the bit where in the song it sand about the sun and you have the sun in your shot. Was done well.
