Title: Updater message (when just logged on)
Post by: Josellis on July 09, 2006, 07:17:43 am
I just logged on today with planeshift and I got a message that I should check for the last version using the Updater (or something like that)

I was wondering if I really should use the updater since DaveG posted somewhere that we shouldn't use the updater or it will destroy the client. Is it an update for V0.3.015 or is it that there is a different version on the update server (0.3.014b) or is it just a bug?

Ive run it on the windows version, still got the crash with dead bodies(was in underworld) but havent noticed since then, so i should be safe. Hope you guys have the same result.
EDIT:  Just noticed the sticky, guess i was lucky :)

Pretend I didn't post this:

There's stuff up there now, but it's just the release.  So, you can run the updater if you feel like it, but nothing new is available yet.

You can update from the old versions now, but I and a few others encountered a few issues.  How to kill:
1)  Delete updatercurrent.xml and version.dat from your PlaneShift folder.
2)  Before updating, select "Skip Updater Version Check" in the options, and click ok.

I'm updating an old install right now, and it seems to be going well.  If you don't do the above it kills the updater.  Just download and extract the updater zip as outlined in the stickies, and start over.

Note, however, that if you have an old install it's probably better to just go get the new package.  It'll be less trouble, and about the same download size.

Edited to add:
Doing the above seems to work, but then it loads up and dies in a half second.  It's just borked like it's never been borked before.  Um... don't try it.
