It seems to be running fine.

You were also wrong once so i can't truly trust your judgement.

I'll wait for a Gm or Developer to answer before i make any drastic changes.

If it didn't destroy your install, then don't re-install.  You don't need me to tell you that.  ;)

Or search all the files related to PS and destroy them, sure you will have your quickbar options erased but that doesn't say you can't do it again, or maybe even save those specific files or logs.
What I would do would be to uninstall, destroy all traces of Planeshift, except the install, then reinstall it and check if it works.

I tried to update a few days ago and it went fine for me, tough that no insurance that it'll go just as swell for you

Peace

Once upon a time... a message appeared the said I should run the updater. I did, overwrote a couple of files (setting related) but nothing bad happened. I just reworked my settings and it was fine. After some time... another message appeared. This time it promised a few more updates... some .dds files from characters.zip and zoneinfo.xml. It downloads the dds files but does nothing with them and zoneinfo fails to... "update".

So basically nothing screwy happened so far. My question is... should I run the updater from time to time and see when it will really screws up my install, or should I wait for an official "GO, GO, GO!" ? Is the updater smart enough to rewrite the current files if they got tangled with or when the above mentioned indication appears, I should make a clean install and then update?

If you have the space, you could just as well make a safety copy and update the original installation as much as you want to.

If you are on Windows, there is a patch available. Please take a look inside the "Rules and Announcements" forum section for a thread made by Talad. If you are using MacOSX or Linux, you will have to wait a bit more to play.

The PS dir is wherever you put it.  Standard location is c:\program files\planeshift crystal blue\

Try another drive if you have one - or another directory. In "My Documents," for example, if nothing else works.

Mm, I think there's a slight misunderstanding - where you place the .zip itself is not important. What matters is where you place the files the .zip contains.

Have you tried to extract it to another drive, as suggested? D: if you have one, or F:, etc.

Unfortunately I can't stay up any further, so I've uploaded my own copy of the patch here (http://www.filefactory.com/?58be76). Maybe something weird is up with the way Talad packaged the files, who knows. See if that changes anything :}

The only additional message I got was a no-brainer, but might cause problems for others:
Quote
"Do you want to replace the existing files?"

......uhhhhhhhhhh............YEAH! :whistling: "Yes To All" is prolly the technically correct answer...

When I 1st logged into PS I got the message "Not running the correct version of PS".  I closed PS & then downloaded the 015 patch from Talad's post.  When I 1st tried to extract the files to my PS directory, I received a message "can't extract that file another program is accessing it", paraphrasing not an exact quote.  I received this same message for numerous files in the package.  I double check to make sure I had closed PS & I had.  I tried again & still received that message.  I next re-booted my computer, then tried to extract the files again.  This worked.  I was using Winzip10 to unzip these files & I am running Windows XP Pro.  For some strange reason, eventhough I had closed PS before I tried to extract the files, Winzip thought PS was still running.  If anyone is having problems extracting these files try re-booting your computer.  It worked for me.

For some reason, PS clones a resistent instance of itself. Instead of restarting your computer, you may probably seek and destroy this instance if you have access to the process list.

*nods*

For those who run windows press alt+ctrl+del to access the task manager. Check your running processes for one called "psclient.exe". shut that down and you should be able to unzip the patch to your planeshift directory without problems. Of course restarting works as well.

I didn't think to check the task manager prior to re-booting my computer.  But, before I made my post above I did an experiment.  I started PS & at the logging screen I exited PS using the quit button.  Then I accessed the task manager & the psclient.exe program was not listed.  So for me at least the only option was to re-boot my computer.

I downloaded the patch, and tried to unzip into my ps directory, but I ran into some problems. I tried again, and by doing something (I forget what) I managed to unzip all the files without a problem... Then it said I was missing a file to open the client. I simply looked through the files of my ps dir, and found the missing file. I copied it there, and now... well I'm not sure...

extract it into the same folder you installed Planeshift into.  Most likely called "Planeshift Crystal Blue". Replace all of the files it asks, and then run the game. do NOT run the updater until you hear the okay from a mod, or dev. Checking in with IRC is a good way to moniter these things.. sometimes.. ;)

I noticed that too after the update but I am certain it was there before I updated with the patch so I'm guessing it had something to do with the patch not being installed.

As per Karyuu instructions, I got both Talad's zipped patch and her RARred one - which seem exactly the same  :detective: I uncompressed the files and manually copied them over the old ones.

Now psclient still tells me I have to run the updater  ::| but nonetheless it works pretty fine and I enjoyed a nice game session

However the updater doesn't even boot correctly  :'( It silently crashes out before showing the graphic window.

Well, just a notice ... I can play anyway  :flowers:

I'm keeping a low profile :whistling: hoping the program won't realized it has some glitches and will keep running as smoothly as ever  :innocent:

I'm hoping the same, Yorik :)

A clarification on the .rar I posted a link to - it is indeed the same patch that Talad that uploaded as a .zip; I was curious as to whether Talad's zipping the files had something to do with the password prompt many are getting, so I created my own archive to see if any change would occur for those downloading it.

I had the same problem when I ran the updater for the 1st time.  I tried running the updater a 2nd time & it ran smoothly.  I am not sure why, maybe I just got luckly, but there still appears to be problems with the updater.
