Title: Why 20,000?
Post by: spyke01 on July 10, 2006, 06:17:43 pm
Plain and simple, why does a guild cost 20,000 to create, there will be wipes and some people who want to start a guild just dont have this kind of cash.

Because otherwise we have loads of people running around with guilds called "I AM A MONKEY BRAIN" etc.

True, but isnt 20,000 a bit much...nevermind, can someone update the guild rules page on the guild forums to say this, i went though the time in reading it, and the page i looked at, the first time guide, i dont believe states the 20,000 trias, however the players guide does, thats when i relized i had wasted all that time coming up with all the guild info  :D

If your character has reached the point where they know enough about the Planeshift world to create a guild, 20,000 is a negligible amount.  You could raise that amount in about 5 hours by mining and selling gold or platinum.  AFAIK the 20,000 limit was to prevent people from joining, immediately making a guild, and then spamming everyone to join.

After a wipe, does a guild master have to get all that money back up and recreate his guild?

As wipes remove all characters entirely and players will have to recreate them from scratch again, yes.

I'll update the Guild Discussion rules to mention the cost, thanks!

See the process of wiping as a mean to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Of course you shouldn't found a guild on our own. It's not like you wake up one day and say "well, from this moment on I will have a guild called "I Rule", I will now go invite some people". You should found a guild with a band of friends. If you can get 10 people together, the cost is only 2000 per person if you split it up. And if you really want to found one on your own, just play a bit untill you're past the rat/clacker fase and then 20.00 won't be that much anymore.

spyke01 - before you think about creating your own new guild, first think: Is it necessary to be made? Aren't there already guilds who have similar goals? Or do you just want to be a leader, without much concept? ;)

I try not to do anything with little thught, i decided to create a guild for rangers, because i saw none, i created a backstory, the ranks and such, and was about to create the orum and site when i noticed the cash

There are already "Rangers of Yliakum" (read the Guilds forum and the "Guild list" as well); and Ruby Reign gathers "hunters" (for many different kinds of "game" - from clackers to bugs)... ;)

Why Rangers may I ask? {i'm nosey sorry!!}
what I mean is, why do you want a guild of rangers, what is the point of the guild?
Anfa wonders if she missed a post and than realizes  :offtopic:
oops...sorry, guess I will have to wait til you register in the guild forum.

Cheers

I chose rangers, because in almost any game i play, i am an elven ranger, i myself love nature, so its a little bit of RL in the game, but then again i could choose a druid since i was once one. I tend to like rangers because they have a high number of attacks, dont take dual weapon penalties(they do but at a smaller amount), and have animla companions. This is all from DnD, and im not sure how much translates into PS, but thats my main reasons, ive already made the topic in the guild forum, just need 5 peiople before its made in gmae

You will probably miss most of such rules in PlaneShift.

On one hand, because PlaneShift shall not be like other games.

On the other hand, because the development is just not as detailed as necessary to implement such fine rules. There is no dual-weapon penalty, the opposite is true at the moment. Furthermore, there are no ranged weapons yet (although someone seems to work on it seriously).

And well, as I already said ... there is rarely a real need for just one more guild. We already have rangers, or nature respecting guilds. And even if you find 5 members today - you will need to keep at least 5 members over a remarkable duration, but people tend to change their opinion

That is true, i believe that when PS is finished, it will wipe the floor with most other MMORPGs, one of my favorite things about PS other than being cross-platform, is the graphics. Even at this stage, they are breathtaking. And as with other great things, a great community always makes things better.

Can you suggest a good nature guild, one that has a good backstory and plenty of members? I did a little searching, but didnt find too much.

There is  always room for more guilds, it wont matter if you have the same type of goals as other guilds, you will grow and change and become slightly different. so I say go for it and good luck.

LigH that's what happened to Ruby.   smiles.

I say it's all up to you. Although the goals may be similar to other guilds, the backstory is probably different, though most of all, the members. I find that what makes a guild in any game are the members. If your guild has a great background but annoying, unfriendly members, there is no point in maintaining it. On the other hand, if you have a bad story for it, but awesome members, then I say it more than compensates.

In another MMORPG I play, I was in a guild who's members where very friendly, and helpful. After a while I became good friends with the guild leader, and had a few good occasions to show that I would help him. Now, unfortunately, things have changed. A rather large guild with over 200 members created a branch for us, and those of us who still play switched to that branch. Now things are very different... At least I'm still friends with the guild leader.
