I have downloaded the patch provided for the very recent update, but the update wasn't successfull because the .zip file's most files are password protected! I was forced to skip the file and BAM! the update doesent work. Help!

you cant skip stuff restart your computer and when you get back install the game FIRST THING then it will work

yes i do i had the same problem ive had ever problem lol the games messed up for me lol but anyways just trust me do that and it will work

BUT! While I am extracting the files, over 75% of the files are password potected! I cant install them because I dont know the password. I am forced to skip the files or cancel the extraction.

Works fine for me... apart from teh server booting me off continuously. Does this help? :whistling:

Nope... WinRaR just said "Access Denied" I will try to re-download... Also will check if its because of extracting to a partition. Will try to extract to another drive and then see if it works.
EDIT: No beebing way!!! I extracted to C: instead of F: and it worked! Copying files over.

i might not understand y'all a bit...it might be because of the alcohol present in my veins, last time at Kada-El wasn't a youth one Har Har Har :sorcerer: :thumbdown:! youre saying something about password protection.. i think the computer just doesn't know the diff between copy protection and Currently used files...There is Windows Xp versions as much as there has been Planeshift ones... i think i found the answer , here it goes... ouahhhh i feel dizzy hehe :
Ctrl+alt+del - Processus or something like that, im Quebecois. and finish the Updater.exe task ... once we run updater, it never seems to stop being used, even when we start the game. then you can re-install, delete, modify those 7 or 8 files related to updater... as last one said, restarting computer is also a good way, (deeeeeep breath, another Shiraz Rosemount Estate (australia) draught) as it will clean up RAM and computer will run faster... i know that nerdz keep their computer running for some days... they often forget that rule... getting back to the subject - The updater is very good for everyone using XP.
P.S. dev team - all the updater programs since some times now has stay'd in memory even after closure... ctrl alt del is now the whay i close all program... har har har shouldnt be

can someone explain in laymans terms how to do the patch without it saying the files are password protected. I dont have a clue what Ahriman means by

I presume that you are trying to extract the patch files into C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue. But instead of moving the patch files there, try moving them into another directory first. Try putting them in another drive, D: or F: if you have one, or if you have been trying these instead of C:, try C:. Maybe try moving them into My Documents if nothing else is available. And then if you no longer get the password prompt, just move the files where they belong - in your PlaneShift folder.

ok i got it to work but now it is saying that same thing that i am using the wrong versaion for the server

ok one i extracted it like we where told and it didnt work so then i extracted it to my C: drive and copied it over doesnt work

:( it still says i've got the wrong verson of planeshift for the server :o I unzipped them into my documents and coppied them into the planeshift folder. Is it just a case of be patient or is this one of those things that is only happening to a select few.

im getting the same thing i finally got the patch to go in but now it says i have the wrong version still

Oh no, it says you have the wrong version, we're all gonna die!
Did you actually try to login to the game?
No...you didn't.
Because if you tried, you would've found out you can login, and it only gives that wrong version message because it's being stupid somewhere.
And by the way, this game isn't messed up; it works for everyone. The fact that you can't properly unzip the patch into the PS directory means that either YOU messed something up or your pc is messed up.
Don't blame Planeshift.

It doesnt even get to the log on screen??? as far as i know the patch went on properly when i did what karyuu said so im in a confuddlement over what to do.

You're not making it easy for us, are you?
But instead of Winzip I recommend Winrar (http://www.rarlabs.com/rar/wrar36b6.exe) (www.rarlabs.com).
There's nothing you can screw up.
1 Double click on the patch file, It'll open up in Winrar.
2 Click on extract to and select your PS directory (<yourdrivename>/<yourgamesfolder>/Planeshift Crystal Blue/)
3 Make sure you click "okay" when prompted to overwrite files, click "Yes to All".
4 Play the game, if it says you need a new version on the login screen, ignore it, as that's just PS being stupid somewhere.

Ehm..right.
Try to use the little manual I wrote on page 2 of this topic, see if it works, if you haven't been able to get PS running yet.

Well, when I launch the game and try to connect to the server it tells me I should update the game, because I have an older version, but I can still connect. There is another "version" of that message that will really block you out, but if you get that, that means you really did something wrong.
Before you try to do my manual, check if psclient.exe is still running. There was a bug in the "old" .15 PS that kept it running even after shutdown.
Try this:
Press the keys "Ctrl Alt Delete" on your keyboard. Make sure you keep holding the buttons while you press the next one. The moment you're pressing them all, release the buttons at the same time. The taskmanager then pops up. Click on the processes tab. You now see all of the processes that are running on your pc. Check if you can see psclient.exe running. If it is running, click on it and then click on "End/Terminate process" or something like that. Then resume with point 1 of my little manual.
Biruno: Please avoid making two posts after eachother, if you have anything to add to the post you just made, just use the "modify" button to modify your post.
And to get the correct version of Winrar, just click on the underlined WINRAR word in my post, then you can immediately download the newest version in English.
Got to rarlabs.com if you want another language version and click on "downloads".

The reason I recommended uninstalling and reinstalling PS is just because some people didn't read the forums and used the updater tool, and that updater tool is exactly what screws up your install, so don't use it!
I also see you have problems quoting.
Modify your post and make sure it looks like this:

Only use the updater AFTER you have used the PATCH!
