Title: question not about game, but game related
Post by: Voldengrath on January 29, 2003, 05:21:36 pm
I read on the main site that you guys need servers to host the next release. Does this mean you cannot use all the other ones that are already hosting the AB file?

My Guess, Is that this means they expect their server will not be able to withstand the impact of players come MB with any reasonable bandwith left.   They might also be trying to find affiliates to sponsor them and all that stuff which happrns, but honestly

WHAT DO I KNOW?

nothing

Sounds to me like gamiix got fed up with planeshift\'s promises of new game and many users, but they never delivered. I wouldn\'t host a server for a dead game either.

I dont think \"dead\" is a good word to describe Planeshift. Maybe \"Not yet born\", but not dead.

Ah, Link :-)

Well this is not exactly true, it is more like gamiix is under new ownership, changing ISP?s type thing. I am not sure of the details, but that is the essence, gamiix was a wonderful place while we where there, and it is really has nothing at all to do with us.

We where and are very thankful to gamiix. They have been exceptional and at the time it cost them a great deal of effort to set things up.

There is more to explain, but I really don?t feel it is important enough to mention in any way.

As far as dead?we will see.

There is more out there then you or I may know, and there are things we just have not even considered.

I do think there will be a playable game by years end, however that will not be ?persistent? it will be more Alpha/beta as we play with and tweak things.

I personally hope for true beta this time 2004, but things may happen faster or slower, it is impossible to tell when people are putting blood and tears into a game for free.

We truly run more of a risk of being irrelevant on release then of being dead. But at the same time I feel strongly that we are in very good hands technically, and the game will be good, but getting the AI to the level of ghost recon and such I think will be difficult as much as we try.

But you never know.

They dumped you cuz they were hosting a bunch of nothing, with an average of .011 players per month, it wasn\'t worth their hd space.  Amen.  And link, I will go down with you!
And I will take my Klyros model with me.

Yeah, the ISP thing was a good excuse, but we all know the truth. I\'m not going anywhere, not untill this place closes anyways, which might not be to far away.
