How come the monsters can't hit me? That kind of takes the fun out of the game. Also...can anyone tell me how to set mouselook up in first person so that my cursor is always in the center and my vision moves as my mouse moves, without any lag? Like in Everquest or Halo...

A) is a bug, should be fixed soon (tm).
B) Dunno, I know what you are talking about though...probably would be nice (esp. if ranged weapons are implemented soon, trust me, trying to aim accurately with a third person camera is bad enough in C&C Renegade, probably would be 100x worse with the current PS camera)...
-
B) I have been proposing that numerous times, but it has never happened. And the mouslook is not lagging now, it is just broken in some way, its like you have to movo mouse few milimeters, so that your char change the viev angle by few angles. In effect camera jumps from one position to another almost instantly. Of course if you have say 20 FPS because of your comp not good enough, then efcourse everything is acting in this way. Like when you open windows, move them or wait for them to fade away, cursor and stuff like that which shouldn't. Many games which i played managed to avoid this problem and at least your cursor move smoth, even if you have low FPS. So it is definetly possible in PS.... one day ;)

Ahh. So thats why I could fight big monsters yesterday (And I thought I was getting better at this ::| ::|)

I donno if this is the same problem but when that happened to me i asked an advisor to help me (this was a long time ago) and he said to press Tab so try that it might work just plz dont complain to me if it doesnt ;)

Um, no.

In anycase, we'll definitely need a key to exit that mode, because I doubt we will have enough keys on our keyboard to assign hotkeys to every little thing in the menu, much less be able to remember all of them without checking the options menu.
But yea there are times where that would be great, and yes, if ranged weapons are implemented anytime soon, it'll be very useful. Personally though, I don't like ranged weapons. They're usually too weak, require aim, and they're useless at close range. Besides, what else is magic for?

for mouselook.. i would LOVE if i could play planeshift like a 3d shooter.
Yes, i know, many will think, evil! 3d shooters!
But, in 3d games its just the way im used to play when i represent a character. When i play planeshift i feel much more like playing diablo because i see my character in front of me and im not looking out of his eyes.
I know, first person view and mouselook together are not that bad, but it could be better. What i miss most is strafing. Why cant the character just walk on the left while still looking in front of me? Like that, it wouldnt be a silly strafing like in quake or so, but much more logic and natural. i hope you see what i mean. But well, i understand when there are more important things to do..

ever tried pressing "q" and "e"?

Use third person follow with mouselook, and most of your problems go away.
I love being able to turn swiftly, when I move my mouse just before releasing the third button.

Strafing is implemented (use Q and E, and not all models have working strafe animations). P.S., Whoever developed the strafing animation for the Dwarven models needs to go look at all the other decent strafe animations out there, as I wouldn't figure anyone would shuffle their feet to sidestep/strafe. (You would crossover-step instead.)

yes i know that. its just that strafing is sooo slow that it isnt realy worth using it... but thats just my opinion.

Asraniel is absolutely right in all what he has said so far. Additionally the mouslook which I and Asraniel want is not only in FPSes. The most obvious example is morrowind elder scrolls III. Its probably the same in oblivion, but i didn't played it. Its just that in current mouslook the mousebuttons are completly uselles, making a use of them you gain really a lot and loose nothing.
Strafing.
It is too sloooooow. really
Think how you move in real life. Do you always: turn, go straight, turn go backwards? Hell no. You move in really various ways, and strafing isn't the only one. But by combining strafing with turning and going forward and backward, you can imitate the real movement ways really a lot much much better.
Current strafing is so slow that it makes it uselles 95% of the time. Its not that strafing you can move only slow. When you strafe fast, your foots don't touch the ground all the time, in similiar way as when you run.
Q and E are bad keys for strafing, because your fingers can't be always ready to go forward strafe and turn at the same time. Even if you manage to master it somehow it will be still slower than:
extremaly precise turning by mouse
turning by a/left arrow and d/right arrow.
forward/backward - default.
I believe to make it happen should be priority and to keep to not break it. Its just that the movement system is very often broken with release of some updates. Its broken even now. - Mouselook isn't smoth.

A] Yes, as it has been said, it is a bug that the programmers are (I'm guessing. I'm only a player of the game, not a programmer :-X) trying to fix.
B] Hit [Tab] to start the mouse-look, hit [Tab] again to stop it.
It's very useful it you actually want to see more of the hard work that the programmers have put into this great game-in-progress. I reccomend that the next time you die, take a full look at the death realm, it's actually quite amazing even if you're just looking at it from an artistic view. \\o//

Everybody know about it already and it was shown that in current form it isn't good. What I and Asraniel was trying to show is to how make it better without any consequences.
