I hate to do this to you Xordan, but that's pretty much it: If I install from your installer the 64bit version it freezes my whole system on loading the world (after I already log in) - no error output that I can see. The 32bit version in the same installer works ok though.
More info on the system:
Portage 2.1-r1 (default-linux/amd64/2005.1, gcc-3.4.6, glibc-2.3.6-r4, 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 x86_64)

Thanks. ...I know it's strange - we share quite a similar set-up.
Maybe there is some error output, but I can't see, if it freezes up before I can see the output in the console.

I have the same issue, will try the 32-bit version. Here is my system spec
athlon64 3000+
1gb ram
80gb hdd
ATI X600 256mb
nForce4 chipset
running SuSE 10.1 64bit

I would suggest that it's the 64-bit ATI drivers screwing up, as both of you have ATI cards and I don't.

could be, works fine in 32bit mode, so all is well
