Title: Smelting?
Post by: Ziljaden on July 20, 2006, 09:45:23 pm
After searching for hours upon hours I've finally found and mined a full inventory of gold ore. Once I got back to town I found that the 21 gold ores that I had were only worth 240 tria :o. I could kill rats for that amount of time and make over twice that much from hides alone! I know that gold ore isn't worth an incredible amount, so I figure there is a way to melt the ore into gold ingots or something so that the gold becomes actually worth something.

Can anybody tip me off as to where/what I need to do to smelt the ore into something more usefull? Also if there is a command required it would be nice if someone would tell me that as well...

Ask Harnquist for a task, and he may teach you some Metallurgy :} He'll offer training and a book, and then you can use the furnace by his shop to work with your gold.

Ah, then I am mistaken.. I have some other information written down, and it seems Steuben is correct. Iron and coal are the crafting materials of choice for now.

uh, I dont think you guys realize the real problem here.

Your 21 gold ores are not worth 240 tria in all, but for just one.

21*240= 5 040 tria.

You could buy a lot with that much.

Hahah! I don't think anyone here thought to think that the original poster didn't realize this.. But that's probably the truest truth of what happened :)

It would be wise for Ziljaden to check this thread again!

Wow... I completely forgot about the aspect that it was only showing the price for one ore. :sweatdrop: I guess the price for gold ore has grown exponentially since I last played.

Thank you all very much, this has made things much, much easier for me ;D

are they actually more valuable if you melt them? or does the price stay the same?

As of now, you cannot melt gold, so as in golds case, no. Iron however (although I cant recall the exact selling price) does not become more valuable when made into molten iron. I think it still sells for 5 tria?

Either way, if youre going to be selling minerals, platinum is the way to go.

Im sorry, but Platinum is gone my friend... :-[ Gold and the jewel-type minerals are the best for now. Maybe Silver, but i dont know how much that is worth...

Iron ore can be melted and then cast into ingots which then sell for about 13 tria. Not much but more compared to the 2 tria or whatever for ore. Considering that one will mine and melt a lot of ore to produce the first steel stock, this at least gives one some recompense. When I try to melt gold ore in the furnace it says something akin to that I do not have enough skill to do it. It does not say that I cannot. Considering I am on Metallurgy 6, perhaps at 10 or 20 the gold can be made into ingots. That would be cool!
