So ive been testing everything with making the models and then finally exporting them to PS. I got it to actually work now :D
Well, this was more like a little test. I made a bow real quick to test out everything. My first try and my bow was about the size of half of the town ::) Here it is ingame now. No string. Im not really sure why it isnt showing up. It may be because its seperate from the actual bow, but then why would it just export the bow and not just the string?

While at work I came up with some fun ideas for weapons, as well as RPing. It might take a few days but im going to model some new weapons and hopefully come back here with screenshots. I plan to make this fun and interactive, you'll see
p.s. I think this bow is around 90 polys. Its pretty low quality all around (thus being a test subject)
-
Looking good! I'm really looking forward to seeing more weapon mods from you now :}
-
I have some fun ones planned that incorperate ingame items :)
I was also thinking of holding my own quest, in a way. Weapons need supplies to manufacture, right? Im thinking it might be fun if, instead of giving away the mod/file, I could turn it into a quest. "If I had 2 Tefusang Claws, I may be able to build you a Spear."
Then they could go off, find me two claws, I give them a weapon that would be around the average power of a spear (such as a short sword) and then they download the mod through here. Since I gave them "the spear" (aka short sword) already, they are good to go. Of course, you could be not fun and just buy your own short sword lol.
Its nothing great, but I think it could be fun. Something more powerful that would hold the power of a claymore would also take more items, but basically you get a free claymore or whatever item lol.
Perhaps it a waste? I dont know. I just like the idea of holding my own quest lol. The only thing bad is that its like "oh this is cool.....what? no one else can see my weapon? whats the point then?"
;D

i love the quest idea, but one question: if other have the mod installed will they see your weapon?
-
My first try and my bow was about the size of half of the town
SO YOU"VE BEEN CAUSING THE SERVER INSTABILITY!!!!
anyway lol, it looks pretty dam cool.
-
Zorbels will be happy.

lol, that sure was a pain last night. I didnt even want to load the world, I just needed to see my char in the select a char window. I wouldnt think a huuuuuuge bow the size of a small town would be doing that anyway. Although it is monsterous, it still has the same amount of polygons, which means (i think) that it would render the same.

Well you see, this is another downside to this being only clientside. If I gave you a short sword with one of my weapon mods as its cover, then everyone (in your client) would have this weapon mod if they also had a short sword equipped. So to answer your question....yes, in the sense that they may/or may not have actually done "the quest". Im hoping the real draw would just be the ability to see it in your client and perhaps have some fun with it (such as screenshots) :)
Edit: Tonight ill be able to actually make some of my stuff. Last night I got home at 3am from work, making it a 12 hour day lol (I go in at 3pm) so I didnt have much time to do anything else other than figure out how to export. Im excited to get home tonight lol. I think ill make a real bow this time. A "Battle Bow"
-
Remember this time to have both the string AND the bow attached so they make one mesh, otherwise the string won't be exported. ;)
-
lol, thats mean. And i did try that! Although this time I didnt think ahead before making my texture, so it got screwed up once I added the string. Once again, not there lol.
New bow. I was drawing some designs out on paper at work, this was one of them. Blades at both end (just incase, you know?) as well as spike knuckles. It has some use in close combat, if needed. Still no string sadly, but its not bad. I really need to get back into all this again, im really rusty lol. This bow is okay but I promise ill make better (maybe not more bows, but definitely other weapons/items)
its always hard at first:

other pics:

give me some more time and ill crank stuff out, whether any of you like it or not lol  More after work!
p.s. Yes, i know, I have to fix the positioning of the weapon. Its hard since its all trial and error, opening, reopening, saving, exporting, editing....then trying all again. Its close, my one finger kinda hangs out though

That bow is sweet \\o//! if u can will u teach me how to make one :whistling:
-
Update: Im tired and didnt feel like starting anything new, so all I did was make the bow prettier looking by actually having a string lol.

Problems with modding:
-- In cases with things that go under your arm, such as this bow, you can only hold it in a certain hand, otherwise it looks unnatural to be holding it like that. (IE. I angled it inward for one arm, if you switch to the other arm, its angled outward)
-- Species. Dwarves have unusually huge hands with no real grasp, plus the string intersects with their body. Other problems are small hands, different central(?) location
-- They do not actually work. :'(

i dont care i still want one ;D

It wouldn't be hard to do something like a bow and then use the summon missile spell :)
-
Lol, well i was thinking that, but didnt feel like investing time into that at the moment ::)
-
if anyone hear knows c++ we might be able to do something whenever you attack it castss the spell that summons a missile at the enemy YAY magic bows :)
-
:D Ohhhhhhhhh, I likes! I likes alot!
So ..... this being a mod will you have a link to download this when you are finished? Or are you just teasing ..... :'(
-
very nice... can i order a whip? ;D
-
a whip? ooh-la-la. :\ really need a quiver now :)
-
ooo, i like the ideas! This is what I need lol.
Zorbel, im just gonna keep it as a tease right now. Im going to set up a "shop" in town and hopefully start a fun RP quest. Dont worry, it wont take longer than a few more days.

Reminds me of this bow:
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Rotwing_Recurve_Bow
A couple comments, try making the thickness of the bow not so uniform (looks like a bent tube - taper it down as it nears the ends), and maybe add some detail to the wood/white stuff. A good start though, props.
-
hmmm, that website seems to have frozen my window lol :sweatdrop:
thanks for the comments. And although its hard to see from the angles (I kept them to the side) the bow actually does taper as it goes down, since each end is meant to be a blade.
ah there we go, now the site works. Thats a fun bow, a little confusing on where the string would go, but still really cool looking.
Edit
Yay =) I finally started texturing my "shop". Thats the best part as long as the mapping goes as planned :) Im not sure if ill finish it tonight or not, its getting late (early?)
-
Hi,
Very nice, and good initiative getting it exported and into PS. The UV-mapping looks well done too. The only thing that distracts me a bit are the blades. I tend to see them as feathers. :)
All in all, a neat PS-ready package.
-

hehe, yeah. I agree. The blades do not completely look like how I wanted them :-\ Its hard making a metal texture lol. I think I said this before though, since my pictures are all profile, some of the "needed" features can only be seen when its in a 3d world. Thanks for the comments :)
Im still working on my shop, im about 30% done the texturing. It makes me excited, although I think im going to have to redo one part because it looks bad to me :whistling:
Edit:
When I get home from work, ill post all the need files so you guys can see how it looks for yourself. It tends to look goofy among certain races like dwarfs though :sweatdrop:
-
Alright, I kinda dont feel like making this available since it WILL look goofy on some characters, but hey, here you go:
Planeshift - Bow Mod:
To apply:
- Download file (http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=82ce7f61)
- Use an unzipper to extract the files, then copy those files into tools.zip in your PS dir (...\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\art\things\tools.zip)
- The mod has now been applied to the pick ax \\o//
- Start Planeshift and equip a pickax.
- Take some fun screenshots! Please!
Enjoy, or not lol, depends on how you like it. Take some screenshots either way, just so I can see it on other characters?
