...a ray of light shined through; a glimmer of hope had emerged.
***Crashes and screams are heard outside***
Fayodin Istar awoke and shot his eyes open. Quickly looking around he sees his parents preparing weapons. “The Silverblades are taking over the island. They have cut out all of our communications and means of transport to the mainland.
The Silverblade, the most infamous and treacherous thieves guild in the land. Why would they want to take over our little island? “We have to go” stated his father, and the three of them left their hut Fayodin’s father had made from wood and straw.
All around them houses were burning, people were screaming and being slain in a vast frenzy. Where are we heading? “We are going to the forest to hide out in the trees” said his mother, sensing Fayodin’s bewilderment. They ran through the massacre towards the large forest that covers ¼ of the island of Tolia. As Fayodin is running with his family, he instinctively takes in his surroundings. A Silverblade then jumped out towards them. “Watch out” yelled Fayodin. His father turned around and dispatched the attacker with his dual scimitars. Just as his father turned around to keep on going, another Silverblade popped out of the crowd and struck Fayodin’s mother down. With a scream the two looked back. “We must press on. She is dead, we must not let that stop us or we will be too.”
The two pressed forward avoiding groups of the Silverblade and conflict as much as they could. Finally, they reached the forest, but it was not a good site. As they ran up and on top the hill and looked down on the forest, all that could be seen was a huge blaze miles around. They both stood in sadness as all their means of escape vanished. Wait a minute…I know of another place to escape too…
“Follow me, there is a small hole in the ground that leads to underground tunnels and chasms. We can go there.” His father looked at him curiously, and almost instantly, Fayodin’s legs were carrying him with the speed of the winds to this place he use to go as a child to get away from everything, relax, and explore. It wasn’t long though before they were detected by the Silverblade and had 4 of them chasing the two elves down. As they ran, Fayodin pulled out a handful of caltrops from his pocket and threw them behind him. One of the 4 Pursuers fell to the ground with blood trickling from his feet. Finally, they had reached Fayodin’s childhood getaway. They approached this small hole in the shadows of some boulders just barely big enough for a full adult to get through, but still had 3 Silverblades on their tail. Fayodin got down and quickly slithered in. Next was his father, who got down. But as Fayodin helped pulled him through, his father’s eyes opened widely. Blood began spilling from his mouth. “Go on w…wi….without me. You can do it, I am so proud of you.” His head then dropped. Not thinking, Fayodin quickly pulled his father’s scimitars from their sheathes and ran down the rock corridors going deeper and deeper underground.
“Chase him down! The three Silverblades entered the tunnel and headed down. After a minute they found themselves looking at 4 openings for them to choose from. “One alive surely won’t matter. He will probably get lost down here and starve to death anyway” They turned back.
Suddenly, Fayodin stopped short. He had never before gone this far down into this cavern. He was leaving his realm of security and going into a new life. For hours Fayodin pressed on, randomly choosing which way to go at forks. Finally, he laid down and went to sleep.
Once he awoke, he pressed on. About 3 hours later, he felt a rumble in the ground. Soon, he found what was causing it. As he entered a huge cave, he saw a giant creature walking around. It was 15 feet high and 20 feet long and looked like an elephant, but with spikes coming out of its tail. Fayodin sneaked up to it and drove his scimitars into its stomach and then quickly decapitating it. A feast. He ate as much as he could. He then noticed that the ceiling was dripping water. Maybe this place isn’t so esolate after all. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months.
Finally he reached a wall with some loose rocks at the bottom. Fayodin began to move the small rocks, and as he moved one of them out of the way, a ray of light shined through; a glimmer of hope had emerged. He finished moving the rocks to reveal a hole with light pouring out of it lighting the tunnel Fayodin was in.. “I must be miles underground…how is there light?” Fayodin said to himself. He slithered through and found himself in a vast world covered in grass, mountains, and trees. Off in the distance he saw a city. He walked wearily towards it. He followed a path when it forked to the right. Fayodin chose straight. He walked about 100 meters when he came to a dead end with a house. As he entered the house, he saw all kinds of potions. He became very weak and as he turned to the human inside, he passed out.
“Ah you’re awake. I am Levrus.” “Fayodin” he said quietly. “What happened to you?” Levrus asked, and Fayodin told him of his story. Levrus showed Fayodin around Hydlaa, introduced him to some people such as harnquist. He told him of Yliakum. This place looks like home…perhaps it shall be. As he lived in Hydlaa for a while, he noticed there were many good people, some bad people, and some who needed help themselves. He wished to help others as Levrus helped him and to never let anyone else suffer as he did. He was grateful of the day he saw the light pouring out as he removed the stones revealing Yliakum. He found some people with the same idea as him and together they created the Rays of Light.
