:o
I spoke to the person I was supposed to speak to to get the ring for the other person, got her the items she'd requested (not an easy task considering my rather sad combat skills).. got the ring back to the person who had requested it.. transferred the ring from my inventory to the trade screen.. and it's gone! Doesn't say "Quest Completed", there's no longer a ring in my inventory, apparently 'you know' who didn't get the ring in the trade, what happened to the ring??
-
The server was -just- restarted - could it be that you were in the middle of the trade when this happened?
-
It was taken by a hobbit who took it to the fires of mount doom :|
anywya what karyuu said, or some kind of bug
-
I wondered that as well, Karyuu, so I signed out then signed back in again.. no ring.
-
The problem is that if the restart happened while you were in the middle of the trade, there could very well be a large chance that the item is lost into the void that binds. Did you get a restart/disconnect message during/shortly after the trade?
This is the easiest explanation I can provide at the moment, as we don't have reports of items vanishing from trades often at all. I wouldn't even be sure what else to attribute it to.

Hobbits??
:P

No, a disconnect did not happen while I was in the middle of the trade that I'm aware of. But it's been my experience too that a disconnect is not always apparent at the instant the disconnect happens, so I'm not entirely sure whether or not I was disconnected at the time of the trade itself. If I was disconnected wouldn't the ring have reappeared back in my inventory when I signed back on?
I've already completed the other quest, was given the gold ring, and thought I had delivered it to the person who had requested it. Does this mean that I will not be able to complete the "Gold Ring" quest? Now the person who had requested the ring refuses even to talk to me, just tells me he is too busy.
-
Well, if the next step with that NPC is to give a ring, talking won't do the trick. But you can try acquiring the ring again... Long process, I know :) The other NPCs should still respond to their previous triggers.
-
Right now I'm thinking it's not worth my time to do the same quest twice.
-
Aw.. but you get such a cool reward.. :} Well, better luck whenever you pick it up again.
-
Ok, a friend was nice enough to help me out and met me to give me the items I needed.
The woman will not take the items a second time.
At my friend's suggestion I have tried asking her for a quest only to be told that she doesn't need anything right now.
So my question still stands: Does this mean that the other quest, which is dependant on the ring, which I once had and tried to trade to the NPC who requested it, but which disappeared at some point during the trade, cannot be completed? Because.. right now it looks like the answer is "No".
-
Did you talk to her before giving her the items? At this point I would suggest that you discard the quest and try to get it again - keep in mind though that NPCs don't always give a quest one after another, so you may have to wait a bit (minutes/hours?) if the NPCs have no job for you when you ask.
-
I discarded the quest yesterday, have tried to get it again today, no luck. It's been roughly 24 hours, and I still cannot get a quest from her to replace the ring that disappeared in the trade.
If a system is buggy, should the completion of quests really depend on items from other quests that might disappear in the middle of a trade and that may not be able to be obtained a second time?
Just a thought.
-
..From her? A 'he' starts the quest from the very beginning :) When you discard a quest, go to the very first NPC you went to the previous time. Quests have lock-outs, which basically prevent NPCs from giving them out to player after player. If someone got the quest from the NPC before you (or several someones), you would have to wait some more and keep trying some more.
-
Actually, unless it has changed, the gold ring quest i not part of the familiar quest. They are 2 diffent quests. At least that is how it shows up in the quest window anyway.
-
Ah, I misread/misunderstood. Thanks for the correction, Neko. This just may be a case of some quest lock-outs regardless, and trying again every now and then is the recommended action.
-
If my memory serves me well, you have to bring that person requesting the ring some other stuff. Like some gems. Maby that's why you didn't got a "quest completed" message.
-
The two 'ring' quests are separate yet related. You must have one ring to get the other. But gold ring starts with a certain merchant in Ojaveda. And you must give her some monster parts, not gems. I hope that's cryptic enough to avoid spoilers.
*Imagines Shangreloo running in circles at this point* ;D

We are talking about the pet ring quest, not the gold ring one. What our thread starter did, was not to pay attention to the NPC dialogue when he asked for some gems. Giving the NPC the gold ring alone, isn't enough.
