I like the idea of requiring a repair kit to repair weapons. In RP terms it is valid, but having them be only a single use? Please consider increasing the number of times you can use them. Perhaps a random number of uses or even a random chance to destroy the kit dependant on your skill in the repair weapon skill set? Surely, a player with a higher repair skill can use a kit with far less chance to damage the kit(sharpening stones and such) than a player with a lower repair skill.
If this is an attempt to remove money from the economy, then just up the price of the kits proportionally to the average number of times you expect people to be able to use them before they are ruined.

This system is bran new. Yes, some more detailed things will be eventually added here. A multi-use kit would also be a good idea.

It's a really good idea. Most games I see, can't give any names, might have...a wrench for repairing machinery, or a key to a door. Somehow those things magically disappear if you use them. =/

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24788.msg274318#msg274318 maybe i should have posted that reply here ? but to keep from cross posting i just put the link i hope thats ok
the one use kits wouldnt be much of a problem if they gave whatever you are repairing a boost to 50/50
but my idea is why not just do away with the kits and make everyone have to use an anvil and to keep lag down make 2 or 3 of them at difrent points so that there isnt 100 people standing in one spot trying to repair.....

Would those be specialized kits or a universal one? Different things get repaired differently.
This could be done very simply with the usniversal kit.
Or very complicated:
~ armour
+ leather
- small repairs/taking care (e.g. from 35 to 50) - oil or lard to take care of the leather that's been hurt a bit
- bigger repairs (e.g. from 0 to 35) - needle set and string
+ chainmail
- small repairs/taking care (e.g. from 40 to 50) - rough cloth and oil to clean the material and prevent rust
- bigger repairs (e.g. from 0 to 40) - erm ...good luck without a bit amount of white or blacksmithing skill?? (would mean you'd have to watch out better for your chainmail and take care of it while it's just slight damage to make it worth repairing)
~ weapons
+ swords, daggers, axes (and other blades)
- small repairs/taking care (e.g. from 40 to 50) - rough cloth and oil to clean the material and prevent rust and fine sanding stone to sharpen it better
- medium repairs (e.g. from 20 to 40) - several sanding stones to sharpen it from bluntness
- big repairs (e.g. from 0 to 20) - blacksmithing skill and equipment
+ hammers and similar
- small repairs/taking care (e.g. from 35 to 50) - rough cloth and oil to clean the material and prevent rust
- bigger repairs (e.g. from 0 to 35) - erm ...no idea ...really o_O ...blacksmith?
...and as you see some of these items (cloth, rock) don't wear out as fast as others (oil).
Maybe the player could buy a box "repair kit" and then fill it up with the utencils he/she needs for his/her needs. And he/she runs out of a certain piece of the repairing equipment, the player just buys only a new piece of that (and not the whole kit).

i really like that idea, it seems very realistic compared to most of other ways i can think of doing it

And in such a complicated way you can also put in hidden knowledge how to repair the equipment perfectly. So the standard reparing equipment without further user's knowhow would only fix it to let's say 40 or 45. For a complete 50 the user would have to know a few tricks like e.g. to make the blade perfectly sharp (=50) the normal sanding stone is not enough, you would need the finest and combine it with water or oil to make the edge perfect. The important bit here is that the user would have to know that wetting the stone would result in a finer edge.
Such "pro" knowledge could be applied to a lot of things that need repairing ...so only those who know/found out the trick would be able to repair things to the fullest.
