Title: The Ojafest!
Post by: sesmi on August 05, 2006, 04:28:50 am
I have an idea to help revitalize oja! Sometime in early october I will be holding the first Ojafest!  :woot:  A huge festaval being held in Oja!  \\o//
People will show the avalible things in Oja, and people will provide attractions, drinks, ect.

I hope to get some help. i want everyone in Yillakum to know about this. Oja needs this. I have a IC explanation and everything.  :)

What do you think? I hope this will be BIG. one of the biggest events to happen in the game thus far. mabye i'm being a bit ambitious.  :sweatdrop:

Please post ideas and Imput. I'll probably need some GM help for this  :-\

Spread the word!  ;)

GOOD IDEA!  I love Ojaveda!  In fact, I spend most of my time there!  This is something that this city needs.  We should have tournaments and contests.  This could easily be done IC because Enkis are very "worldly" people, if you know what I mean.  One tournament we should consider having is a Vitaji tournament (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=24897.0) seeing as the "history" says that Ojaveda is one of its origins (shameless plug? nah!)

One idea, if we could get the devs to tell us when they are about to open one of the doors (those gaint ones, that have me going crazy trying to figure out what's going to be behind them), we could have the festival right after they open it.  Of course we would need to know beforehand to be able to plan sufficiently, but this could be a great way to attract LOTS of visitors.

Sesmi, you've got me excited.   \\o//

You're going to have to wait a long time.. (http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/2497/usedusedusedcx3.gif) No Dsars are in development at the moment, so unless you're going to put Ojafest on hold for half a year, you might want to skip this idea for now.

Acting though, there's a thought! How about plays, comedy skits, reenactments? We have a lot of comedy actors in the community. It'd be fun to let some of them take the stage :} Poetry and drama can be saved for another time - when you're meant to have fun, no better way than to produce laughter.

How about eating contests? Sure, it'll depend on people's systems and perhaps lag, but hey, it's something to do and it'll be amusing regardless. Even if it's affected by some OOC factors, it's not the end of the world. Let's get out those fortune tellers, dancers, merchants with their goods, special effects mages ;} Does pet following work? How about mini pet races?

i never player WoW, but i saw one thing there that would be realy perfect for a event like this.

dance.

Yes, i KNOW that the animators are overbooked, but i think a dance animation one time in the future would be great to make partys :-)

One idea might to have a roof-jumpping competition.  Lots of people have been getting good at jumpping along the tops of the stuff off to the left of the main area.  It's mildly dumb, and fairly useless, but fun nonetheless.  ;)

yeah the ultimate dance move is to doble hit the sit button then jump around. And the side step and sneek animation are good for a dancing.

Great idea! I will be there! Everybody can do something different or bring things to trade. Be sure to invite the actors guild ... there IS an actors guild isn't there? Fine arts do seem neglected in Hydlaa...

Eldoth tries to juggle a red, blue, and yellow ball but quickly loses balance and falls on his backside!

comedy, no we proly shouldnt have that, most people i have seen in PS have a very dry humor its like somone took all the funny out of there funny bone yaknow....( yes i know, that was not funny ) if you make somone giggle in plainshift it better be simple, polite, and childish....if a 5 year old couldnt understand or should not hear it....most times planeshift comunity would try to give you the death penalty

im thinking Enki battles would be the best thing to have.
then again me an Dazx could always do our incredible jumping act,  ( its kind of like a 2 man mosh pit )  and our Kran with wings illusion....thats one that people always love...
maybe have some peopel repairing weapons for free and while your waiting you can join in all the stuff
magic competitions would be fun.  maybe a big game of hide and seek
would also bring some people to oja if a wedding and reception was planned there that day

Capprion, are YOU trying to be funny? Humor (as well as sarcasm) does NOT communicate well in text. So maybe that is what you meant. But I think it sounds like you meant we are all humorless IRC robots controlling characters, that I cannot agree with based on a few of the in-game characters I have known. I edited my original comment a little, too.

  what i mean is you have to be extremely carefull with what you do or say sometime,  nothing will ever make everyone happy at the same time i understand this.  but the thing about the funny bone n all of that was meant as an example of almost the limit of what you can say around alot of the players in the comunity. there are alot of good people in PS i have met. but then again i have also seen a population of about 60%  that try to nitpick  at others or just get mad or offended when something said is a bit more then they can understand...was more/less a warning to people if they try to do anything in a big group like that,  they are going to have a few people possibly threaten them, or send you repeated tells describing in depth how much you offended them.  nope not trying to be funny at all.and i said nothing about all. i said a good deal of players...just speaking from experience, half the people will roll the other half will light a fire and chase you with sticks. its happend to me. and i have seen it happen to alot of others.  normally its something simple blown way up and turned into something when its really nothing

the main point is just be carefull about how you do things what you say and who you do it to.  you might say something to one person and somone just gets the end of what you said and not the entire things gets upset and calls foul.   some people take games to seriously

Perhaps you were saying OOC jokes? you're supposed to remain in character at all times. most of the time people won't like it if you're out of character.
Title: Re: The Ojafest!
Post by: Capprion on August 08, 2006, 04:07:31 am
no most of my troubles come from IC actions....people apparently think i RP wrong ( as if there was such a thing ) and most times when i see somone get verbally thrashd they are OOC using the [ bracets ]  and not even talking to the person who runs up and decides to give them the 3rd deg. on what was said
i think it all comes to down to the point people tend to always think they are right and others are wrong.
and people also want the feelings of power.   both are human nature , just some people have more problems controlling the reptilian brain then other do
they also forget thats the function /ignore exists and could always politely ask somone to stop doing what they are doing, leave the area, or use /ignore

EDIT: were going off topic hehe
so back to the Ojafest.. along with the hide and seek game, we could play a game of FIND THE ITEM...hide something in the town and have a reward for finding it?   just would have to make sure the people involved are honest people.

Yeah, an Ojafest is a great idea! I will be there!
Interested in the circumstances though. How is the Ojafest ("Fest" is German!? Or short for festival?) explained ingame?
Tell me the tale!

To the humour: Nobody loughs about my dwarven-jokes. Especially not at the gold mine, they are all busy. (Okay, many dwarves there...)

Have the festival over the whole week end starting on Friday - then people running things can schedule them at any point they want - I don't want to read any "I have to work that day" posts it will be a nightmare to corrdinate - just post a general time table of events once you get commitments.

The dance contest using combinations of jump and sneak sounds cool as does the comidy acts - people can perform on the top of one of the levels - so even the dwarfs can see ;)

Since I assume Enkidukai history is oral in nature (paws just aren't any good at writing) I suggest a 'Story relay' race. In modern times, kids call it 'telephone'. This is a game for the quick typers out there (that excludes me).

Rules:

1. Form X number of teams of four or more racers. Give the players numbers.
2. Position the players at way stations out of hearing range of each other by number. A ref will be at each way station.
3. Each team is given a different, but similar in form 'story'. Only the first players get the story.
4. GO! The first players rush to the second and /say the story to them.
5. Same as 4, but to the next players in line.
6. The last player then rushes to the last ref and says the story for the last time. A certain number of points are given for arriving first, second, third, etc. Being first does not mean you win, however. Points will be deducted for each typo in the last story. Furthermore, the refs will compare notes from each retelling, and more points will be taken away for any changes made from the previous telling. That includes fixing typos. The team with the most points wins...something.
7. Have fun. No cheating. Contestants may be required to run in circles to prevent pre-telling. :)

No, that's silly and simply cannot be enforced.

"Open your mind, think outside the box, and the world of enlightenment may show through."

Stop assuming the negative in people and think about the positive.  Even if they do cheat, they still have to say it at every waypoint.  Let the fun and games be just that, and not be such a mr. negative pants.

Edit:  Better UTM?

The running in circles was a joke. The :) at the end signified that. Settle folks. No one is going to make you run in circles.

We could definatly have a poetry thing going, i'm not interested in doing it. Or reading any poetry(because I can't :) ). But i'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to do it, and nobody even has to organize it. Somebody just needs to pick a spot then start reading poetry there.

Maybe people could set up a few shops in all the empty places in Oja, I mean everybody who wants to sell things can set it up in all those empty shop stalls(you just need to jump over the counter and BAM!).

By the way, I'm new to the forums, and two years old in the game.
