It's gone... Removed from game..

I suppose there was too much inflation in Planeshift so they got rid of Platinum to slow down our currency.

And then to tax us, they implemented the Quality system, and the repair system.

WHICH I MIGHT ADD, HINDERS NEW PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!

That's why i totally abhor it, because if you're a rich person, you don't care about fixing weapons.

But for newbies it's a pain in the Butt.

Take away platinum i don't mind.....

But i'm totally against the new repair system....

Hurt all the new players of planeshift.

edit:

In my opinion, the Quality and Repair system should kick in WHEN you have 20 k or above, but before that quality should remain at 50.

I don't think the more experienced/richer players escape unscathed...  To repair my Iron Battle axes I have to pay someone with a repair weapon skill from god a boatload of money just to repair 2-5 quality points on my axes.  And it takes almost 6 minutes per repair.  The quality system was (AFAIK) put in place for realism.  No blade ever remains sharp forever, and things do wear down over time.  As for a money limit to when it starts occurring, even with platinum removed, any new player with a mining skill can go to the gold fields and get 20K in less than one gaming session.  At least newer players can buy a replacement weapon if it gets damaged/destroyed.  Try finding the above mentioned battle axes.  It took me 3 months to get them.  Anyhoo, thanks for your input.  If you have any other suggestions to changes to the system, you might want to mention them in the crafting or wish list forums.

Um... I don't think the quality system was put in to make people pay more money... it was put in because it's realistic.

And having it only work when you have over a certain amount of money would be pretty stupid. There would be no way to explain it.

Also remember the repair system has just been implemented and has not been tweaked to perfection yet. Perhaps it will be altered so that quality dimishes less quickly, and (for the wishlist thread here, apologies) perhaps if one has skill in weapons repair and armour, their weapons and armour are better maintained and diminish less quickly (that would seem realistic to me, a master at repairing weapons would take very good care of them, they would last longer than in the hands of a newbie that wouldn't know how to polish and sharpen the blades, leave it in the rain etc.)

The platinum wasn't removed, we simply dug out the entire vein (wink). Now we need a new one to be discovered (possibly requiring far greater mining skill so newbies cannot make 100000 in a day) and perhaps very far away from anywhere to sell or use it so it becomes nearly useless to mine and sell, and maybe 30-50% heavier than gold so one can only carry a few; thus it would only really worthwhile to use platinum to plate weapons, armour etc. Out at the Bronze Doors perhaps? Oh, that region was going to have some npcs too. Hmmm, maybe down one of the garbage chutes in the wild?

My thoughts,

Xirius

Buy your weapons and armor from a player Blacksmith - they will be better quality.

As long as such weapons are sold for 100.000 tria, I will never buy one.

And as long as crafting is so complex that it is hardly worth the efforts, I will not start to learn it.

Instead, I will look for roleplaying that doesn't require weapons. ;)

Is there another mine? Today I encountered someone who had a platinum ore.

Some people have some left from before the mine dried up. I doubt platinum will be put back in game for quite a while, it was destroying the ecomomy.

First question: do you know how much is gold worth now?
Second question: if you know the answer for first, are you undeveloped or something to say the above?
I'm not trying to insult, but stop mindless repeating what was said by someone who alkso didn't think at all.

Anyway people, read some wiki. If there is platinum somewhere, it is not the only worth mineral in this mine. Copper, nickel and gold should come to mind.
What i think about platinum is PS: there should be none. Did you ever hear about platinum in medieval or some past ages?
Further, PS is trying to be original, why the heck does it need to be called platinum? Why does it have to look like platinum? From realistic point of viev, all usable metals are already known and there is no room for new to discover. But from other side, who said that a mineral can't be a compound?
Anyway, its fun to come to a problem with some thought, so that the whole thing isn't so silly trival.

I'm not to keen on gold either, both should techinicaly have no worth in Planeshift other than to make gold coins, and if its gold ORE there is no chance you'll get 240 tria or whatever it is worth of gold coins out of each lump. Neither are profitable enough to go past the point of ore for anything other than jewelry, which could technicaly be made out of any metal as long as its considered 'rare'. Infact making anything out of 24 carat gold is stupid as it is so soft any patern or hold a shape. And iron, a much more valuble resorce went for 4 tria last time i checked (which was admitadly a long time ago). It just aint right... main problem is the npcs cant keep up with the ecomomy.

*edit*
on second thoughts gold is usualy found quite pure isnt it? Well still seeing how little the coins are worth you still wouldnt get 240 tira outa a lump

Well, it is much different of how you find iron and in what form, but i wouldn't call it pure, as you still need to separate the small amounts of gold from the so called 'ore'. The other form of gold are gold nuggets, which are extremaly rare.
Considering this and a lot of othr facts, all what you said in above posts is correct, only the gold still has some use, making it really usefull and worth.
