I was loading a world, and right in the middle, the game crashed. I reloaded the game, and my name has been changed to Laroyiy Cidela...
My real characters name is Vulcanic. How the heck did that happen :/.. Is there a way to change it back?
-
Probably because "Vulcanic" is not considered a good Roleplay name
-
Why is it not. Where people back in medeival days told that they can't name there kids because it didn't sound like a good name to them? Not starting a flame war, but the name that was chosen for mine looked like someone just got pissed and slammed there fists down on a keyboard, and, voila! Instant fix?

GM's and Devs can change names. Normaly, it is proper that they first ask to talk with you about your name before just changing it. Also, I'm willing to bet that they used one of the various random name generators out there.
There is a process you can go through to dispute your name change. You may find it here:

Personally, I don't see a problem with your orignal name, but then again, thats just me.

Adjectives are not suitable names by default. If you have some sort of story behind that name besides "I like it and my character's parents gave it," do tell us :]
-
/me gets a big "oh, I get it now" look. (I was reading the name wrong, silly me)
-
Well, since someone thought my new name suits me better, I would like to hear the story behind that...
-
People in the middle ages would give their children proper names, not "Vulcanic", I hope you do understand that... And the GM's don't think up stories behind names, you are supposed to do that. You can either accept this name, or think up your own name and ask a GM in-game to change it for you.

Is good to see that actually someone does care about the name policy. From several names I've been seeing IG I got the impression that the policy was unenforced at best, or even discontinued. \\o//
-
I don't see how having it end in a "ic" makes it an adjective. the name sally ends in a y.

For myself as a player it is all the little details that contribute to how immersive the world is. I want to be brought into a place in my imagination where planeshift becomes real, and I want this because I enjoy it. I really hope somebody got the character who made his name "Planeshift Ismylife" because I also had the impression that the name policy was not being enforced.

Vulcanic, all you have to do is make a story behind your name or something, like Monk did. But this was really handled badly, without any warning your name was changed to a...really retarded one in my eyes. I think I remember you being a Kran, and "Laroyiy Cidela" sounds like a girl's name.

If a character has a bad name and he/she goes offline before we can talk to the player, we automatically change the name - the player can always approach a GM later and talk out the situation. This is standard procedure. We're not going to keep a list of names to look for around - if we see a name that doesn't meet the Naming Rules, it's gone - because you should have read those rules. It's not a big deal to find a GM in-game or post your character's name story here on the forums to show that your original name may have been alright.
This wasn't handled badly at all.
