Title: Gentoo Ebuild
Post by: gunblade on August 23, 2006, 09:42:41 am
Hi Folks,

in gentoo's portage - "The Portage Package Management System. The primary package management and distribution system for Gentoo." -
there's no working ebuild (thats the installation script) for planeshift

last version there is 0.3.011 - doesn't work

could please someone submit a working ebuild - there are a lot of gentoo users want to play planeshift

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-431444-start-0-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-planeshift.html

greets

Hello,
i'm a gentoo user but i compile planeshift from source (crystal, cel et planeshift)
so i can put my own march=pentium4 or march=athlon-xp because the default way use i586 or i686
bye

You can just use the binaries really. But I'll try and get the ebuild updated soonish if I can. No promises though.

would be great thanks xordan

sure, i could compile planeshift from CVS, but an ebuild is the easiest way for gentoo users - e.g. dependencies would be checked from portage.. ebuilds are powerful scripts... for all the people looking for games in portage.. you guys could get a lot of players, doing some ebuild-work

i have no idea how to write ebuilds so i must ask you

if you can do it, please make a planeshift cvs ebuild so portage takes it from cvs

Malverian used to maintain it however he said that it was extremely difficult to maintain.  I don't know from expirence too much, but it is hard to keep up with minor changes sometimes.

It _won't_ be a cvs ebuild. I'm pretty sure of that. The portage maintainers don't really like those.
