Every so often, I fall off the world after attacking a NPC in the arena. I think it's triggered by the server repositioning my character to be an appropriate distance from the targetted NPC.

mode change teleports (http://www.hydlaa.com/bugtracker/bug.php?op=show&bugid=1966)

For some reason, it was really bad today. I went to the arena six times, and six times I fell through the floor and died. Is there anything that has been changed lately which might account for it? What measures can I take to help prevent it from happening?
-
never happened to me! :o thank god. what were you killing?

I was near the Klyros Gladiator at the time, but it's happened in different parts of the arena just as I'm attacking a variety of different mobs. I think it's a well known bug and it's going to be solved in the next release, but today was such an exceptional pain in the butt that I was compelled to make a post about it.

Far too well known by me unfortunatly.

Zanzibar this is the #1 reason for my countless deaths in the arena. I will initiate an attack on maybe a Dlayo gladiator or rogue and suddenly I'm inside the wall falling to my death. Sometimes it happens to me alot in just a short period of time. I'm just happy I spawn in Hydlaa or else it would be even more annoying. Sometimes it can be beneficial though because it will give me the opportunity to sell the many air glyphs I have on me sometimes. That's looking at the brighter side of things anyway... :-\

Sadly me too.... it's really bad.
Will there ever be a fix...... probably not lol :sorcerer:

Actually, anybody who follows the project history knows that as recently as the last two weeks changes were made towards fixing the "world bug" as it has been called for quite a while. So this issue is being actively worked on. This is a well known bug - kinda like Datruth.
-
And it can happen anywhere not just the arena, get out a little more ;)

Brilliant observation, and excellent delivery might I add.
Of course it can happen outside of the arena. The problem is that the arena is a place where people experience more lag, and the bug can be triggered by starting an attack while moving. That's why it's fair to associate the bug more strongly with the arena.

The only mobs I need to do a running attack with are ulbernauts and super-tefs so it happens to me far more often fighting Ulbernauts. Then again I am lazy so I don't run around like the Headless Horseman is after me. Some people enjoy it and more power to them.

You should know better. This fall-off-the-edge-of-the-world bug is an old one, one that was fixed before and came back to haunt us after the last update. You know very well that even if it's fixed, you'll see it again in a few more monthes.

I'm not talking about hit and run attacks. I'm talking about running up to a mob, and starting an attack in advance of stopping.

No, Suno. You should know better. It's an old bug, but it was behaving differently so I wanted to check if there was a reason for the apparent change.

Well if you run up to something and one hit it then run off to the next thing ... potayto<==> potahto is still an edible tuber. I run around and make sure I come to a full stop before I start an attack. I am not that fond of the DR. I'd love to fight ulbers more often but it is not practical at the moment so I don't. I don't suppose your characters are any less capable than mine, in fact you probably are better trained with more than one than my main one. Perhaps "need" was too strong a term.

I run up to something and then I hit it until it's dead. It's very rare that it only takes one hit. And no, my character is not strong enough to fight ulbernaughts.
This is not a situation of "potayto, potahto".

You don't have to be particularly strong to fight ulbernauts. You do need a fair number of hit points so that if you lag or misjudge position you can take a couple hits but mostly you just need to have timing, good weapons, a moderate amount of skill with the weapons and enough perserverence to finish the fight. It is also helpful to have potions available of course. Ulbernauts are slow and stupid. With a little luck you can kill them without getting hit once. Again it has been a long time since I have fought them regularly, they may have changed but I don't think so.
I never said hit and run, you did. I said running attack. It is the running attack, as we all know, that produces the glitch. You don't even have to be moving at the time if a movement packet comes in out of sequence due to lag. I have certainly had that happen ... come to a full stop start an attack and trip into oblivion.
I remembered Shal as being very proficient with daggers and assumed he had two of the best by now. Perhaps I remembered and figured wrong.
Certainly falling off the world is annoying but it is just temporary.

I don't need a lecture from you on how to kill things in game, nor do I care to list for you what sits in my inventory.
If you must rely on potions and hit and run attacks, then it is my opinion that you are not strong enough to fight your target. At one point, the position of the devs was that hit and run attacks are OOC and illegal because they exploit the game mechanics. They have since stopped advocating this position because it would be very difficult to stop such behaviour given how widely accepted it is by the players. Drinking multiple potions while also running and hitting your oponent is also frowned upon as an OOC behaviour.
