Title: Spawncamping
Post by: UnKind on September 01, 2006, 09:03:50 pm
Not to understand this wrong: I got no problem with it.
But why do I need to call myself a Killstealer, if I attack a newly spawned rogue, by a guy, that is camping 4 rogues the same time???
This is not Killstealing, this is greedy, Scathlar of the Protectors!

scroll down towards the bottom

I don't think there are such things as spawn camping or kill-stealing in ps

perhaps this person has confused ps for other mmorpgs

If someone with low-latency is doing Dlayo Gladiator and his escort in such a way that a high-latency standing on top of a spawn point cannot ever get an attack it would be most rude and would be considered kill-stealing by me. This would be a situation  which would qualify as harrassment as far as I am concerned. Of course there is the possibility that the person standing there is invisible but it is not likely he is inaudible too.

Now back to regularly scheduled programming.

hmm well personally I think the rules are good as far as the GMs is concerned, but I ahave to say I think it is indeed exteemly rude to just steal a kill without even speaking from someone who is just standing next to one spawn.

Sadly the time of having mutible spawns as we used to have in the tefusang age are long gone *sniffs*

Ofcourse the best loot around were tefusangteeth so the money people had was a LOT less then now aswell ;)

The rules make sense yes, but I agree with Pestilence, although it's fair game, it's still rude. Perhaps RP a way to share the creature first? I do myself, and it makes the experience much better than constant arguing about manners.

The rules do say that all is fair, unless already engaged in the enemy, though the majority of the community ask to join in the fight.

In your scenario, asking wasn't something "needed". He shouldn't have complained being he had 3 other rogues. If it were just one rogue, I could understand, but not 4...

Damn PL-ers..

Whether or not that classifies as "fair game" indeed remains subject to interpretation. To me, it looks like there's an exploitation of a bug (namely, the lack of latency control in PS), so from this PoV it can even be considered cheating. Be it as it may, as has been said, in camping one spawn there might be a justifiable claim of, if not ownership, but semi-entitlement. However, with more than that, there IMNSHO can't. Sure, it is nice to have a continous stream of MOBs coming in all the time, but there's no justification in claiming all of them. "Rude" is the nicest word that applies here.
Luckily that's not always the way things work. In fact, some time ago I was visiting the arena and merely watching two people camping a MOB, when I was asked by them if I'd want to share.
Oh, in case you're worried about the mute bug, /tell isn't ever affected by that (merely by packet loss in times of excessive lag, and message misrouting seems to have been resolved for some time by now).

@ UnKind:

The forum is no place to spread opinions agains specific players' behaviours.

@ moderators:

No thread to be continued, IMHO...

I too think now that we've established the "rights" and "wrongs" of camping and spawns, we can put this discussion to rest.
