Title: Help with starting the game HELP PLEASE!
Post by: Bigryanl on September 03, 2006, 07:50:16 pm
First of all, I finally got the patch I needed and when I open it (to where the version is 1.1.1.1) it says that it can't connect to the mirror2 or something like that.  Then when I try to run the game, it then says my version is to updated.  Help please?  This is quite frustrating  :@#\. Help please!

This is exactly what it says when I try to update, "You version is newer than the servers's.  Server is out of date; stopping."

HELP PLEASE!!!

CAN ANYONE HELP ME IT HAS BEEN A FEW HOURS?

Have some patience and wait for help to arrive. We don't live on the forums and this isn't a phone support line. A few hours isn't going to destroy you, so chill back and keep yourself occupied somehow until a helpful reply arrives.

What are you opening in the patch? Have you extracted the files inside the patch to your main PlaneShift directlry (C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue) and clicked Yes to overwrite all old files? Did no error messages come up?

Ok so I extracted all the files into the PS folder where all the PS stuff is, so now all the files are there.  So I ran the updater again and now i says that my thing is more updated than the server.  Then I tried to log onto my account and that I needed to run the updater, but when I do, as I said, it says that it is to updated.

P.S. - Sorry about the all caps... I just really want to play.

i had that problem too..actually, i am again lol. Hmmm try unzipping things again, it got it working for me yesturday then it wont work today :@#\

Hmmm after unzipping things again do what i am doing now and uninstall it again and reinstall it. A bugger i know. Oh yeah be warned when i ran updater first time it took liek another 2 hours (2 hours installing, 2 hours messing round gettin it to work, 2 hours updater,) so it takes ages.

Afer you reinstalled it if it still doesnt work i am going to wait till version .5 mayby to see if its easier.

(p.s you might have the wrong zipped file? I know it sounds dumb but on hte dwnload screne, 1 of the links downloads it damaged and another downloads it with nothing in the file, just an empty zipped folder lol)

Alright I am gonna uninstall, then reinstall it then see if it works.  The patch I dl'ed had everything in it, and I already extracted it.

*edit*

I uninstalled, reinstalled.  Then replaced all the extracted files with new extrated files (the patch).  Yet it still says that I am running a version more updated than the server... HELP PLEASE!

Please avoid posting two or more messages one after another. Just "Modify" your first post to add more information if no one has replied yet.

The key here is running the updater after you have the patch - here's a suggestion that may or may not make sense / work: find the file updater.xml in your main PlaneShift folder, open it with Notepad, and find the update mirrors and their URLs. If it's "mirror2" that you can't reach, try removing that line entirely. There should be other URLs after it for the updater to check. Save and see how it goes.

I see an updater, an updater (recovery mode, and an updater from the patch.  None of which I can "open with..." anything.  Can you take a screenshot of it and w/e files are around it, please.  Thank in advance.

I'm not on a machine that has PlaneShift installed, so unfortunately screenshots like that are out of my reach at the moment. Use the Windows search tool to find "updater.xml" within your PlaneShift directory.

becuase it think you're looking in the programs menu....
try looking in the ps folder in program files.
or use the search.find start menu item and search the whole of c drive

I know, I have already searched the c drive and nothing came up... arg.

Can someone give me the direct Bittorrent file to download... maybe that will work because I am pissed at both the mirror downloads because they do not work, thanks in advance.

There is no "direct Bittorrent" file. Torrents work through peer networks - your download comes from other people sharing their files through a torrent client, like BitTorrent or Azureus or similar.

All the mirrors should work - what problems are they giving you?

I go to the bigtorrent thing and type in Planeshift, I try them all.  All but 1 dl in seconds so it doesn't work.  The other one took a while and didn't work.  So I dled the mirror.  It still says my thing is more updated than the server... OMG!

I have no idea what you are trying to type and where and why. There shouldn't be anything like that required.

Don't forget that you need to patch! This is the only reason you may get the "newer than the server" message. Be very careful and make sure that all the patch files have been put into your main PS directory, and overwrote all the old versions that you had before.

Here is what the folder and the stuff I have is (it has a bunch more of those same types of files, but no point in showing that).

Double-click on the "PS_addon_015patch" file, select everything inside the window that comes up, right-click and Copy, then right-click anywhere inside your main PS folder, and Paste. When it asks you if you want to overwrite the older files, click Yes :}

I deleted all that and uninstalled it and redownloaded that and the patch... now I have this... (more of those green/yellow files down).

I'm going to reboot and try the upater again because the updater said my version is more updated than the server still... 1 sec.
