These are what you should see:

Don't forget to type in the letters/code it asks you for before clicking to download. Otherwise the download won't start.

thanks for the help..but where u have to put in NLL it says "you am a BOT!" how long do i need to wait for it to show letters again?
Title: Re: Another Problem! (updater)
Post by: Karyuu on September 03, 2006, 11:17:12 pm
The letters are randomly generated - you won't get the exact same code. Look at the third image I posted - below the list of download links you should see an image with your code, and a place to put it.

If you don't see it, take a screenshot for me (keep that window open though, don't close it) and post it here.

i cant take a screneshot, but it is the same as yours exept where it says enter (then the NLL random thing)....mine says "you are a bot! you have entered the wrong code to many times. Pleese wait or get a priemum account"

Do you know how long i must wait? or shall i try another time

some letters apoered now thanks

ah...but this came up
"Download-session invalid. Please click here.

Possible reasons:

Download-session expired. Direct-links last a few minutes for free users and a few days for premium-users.
You requested this download-session from a different IP than yours. If you use AOL, try a different browser."

i will try a few more times but then will give up on it and planeshift...thanks for your help though

Post by: Karyuu on September 03, 2006, 11:47:01 pm
Somewhere that you can remember :] The desktop will do just fine, but if you want to make the patching process even easier, save it right to your PlaneShift folder.

This is usually C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue.

Once you have the file saved (either in the PlaneShift folder, or moved there - so it ends up there anyway) right-click on it, and choose the option "Extract Here".

Be sure to click on "Yes" when you are asked if you want to overwrite older files, and you're done! (Though you have to run the updater afterwards.)

Okay, Plan B :]

Double-click on the patch file to open it, select aaaall the files inside, and drag them out into your main PS folder.

Shipon: Try rebooting your computer, and make sure that you patch immediately after. See if that helps any - you could just have the file currently in use.

Paheiyo: PlaneShift is forever free - that will never change. Just because things may not work immediately for you doesn't mean that we have hidden charges for a "working" version now ;P Can you please tell us what isn't working and what you need help with? Describe your problem and any steps that you might have taken. The more information you give us, the quicker we can help you.

The updater won't work on the Mac, it causes all the programs to crash as soon as I open them. I'm going to have to redownload the whole game now...

thats the same problem Im having...

I rebooted  my comp and the files extracted properly but on the updater it still says the same thing.
and I also get the message that "you are not running the right version of plane shift.  please run the updater"
then when I go to the updater it gives me problems.

When it says "delete something for a full update," why don't you do what it advises? You have the instructions right there for you :] Read the full message, do what it asks, and then post back if you get further problems.

ok heres what the updater says line for line from the time I hit update to the time it stops

Welcome to the PlaneShift updater version 1.1.1.1!
Click Update to start
Cheking registry version...
ouldn't connect to mirror mir2! [end red]
Trying mirror mir1...
There are no new updates available.
Checking for missing/damaged files... This may take a while.
Your updater is newer than the server's... Server is out of date; stopping.

and when I try logging in it tells me that im not running the correct vertion of plane shift and that I have to run the updater

Find the file version.dat inside your main PlaneShift folder, delete it, and run the updater one more time.
Title: Re: Another Problem! (updater)
Post by: Kymizer on September 16, 2006, 02:54:10 am
If you are able to connect to the mirror's, you should see that message about deleting the version.dat file anyway.  If you "can't find it" just look for the file named version, and when you pass your mouse over it, it should say dat file.

ok I deleted the vertsion. dat file and ran the updater.   it did nothing to help, so I reboted and the loaded up plane shift to see if it would work... needless to say it didnt so I deleted teh version.dat file again and reran the updater, this time it updated over 150 files after words I opend up plane shift but it didnt help so I reboted and tried again and it still said I was running teh wrong version of plane shift.

any more ideas?

Shipon, as tiring and unfortunate as this sounds, a few people have found that they needed to run the updater many many times before all the updates were downloaded to their system :P Right now I would recommend that you keep trying until a) it finally works, or b) you get fed up and decide to wait for other suggestions. The updater fetched new files for you only after you kept poking it, so maybe you need to continue the poking until it's done.

Is 50 a reasonable amount of pokes to expect success or should I go for 100 or just keep going until my mouse quits & looks for a less abusive job?

Depends on your Sadism Meter of the day.

My guess would be 10 tries max :]

As I saw the official GO! from the devs I decided to update myself. So... I try. I update once, it updates my servers.xml file. I knew I should've set the updater not to do that anymore.... *mumbles*

/me sighs

On second run it actually finds something and tries to update the updater. And I update it... and update it... and update it... and stilll nothing. The updater surely downloaded something but nothing changed. "What in the..." I say to myself.

/me scratches his head

I look in the PS folder, under updatertemp. Would'ya look at that! The rascal apparently he did download the new updater files but doesn't do anything about them . I hold my mouse over the thingy to see some properties and indeed it is the 0.3.16 updater as the pop-up message appears.

/me scratches his head again

So, I take the new files from the updatertemp directory, minus the zip file which I believe to be a backup copy of some critical files in case the update goes horribly wrong and copy them in the PS folder. Basically, it will replace some files in various directories and the updater.exe as well.

After that just run updater.exe as you normally would and expect a ~8MB of download, comprised of art mostly and a few xml files. And there you have it! It's up-to-date!

PS: Oh, and one last note. Prepare to wait for this a bit if you don't have a decent downloading speed. I really don't know how the updater does his magic but those 8MB sure take a while... so be patient and wait for it to finish. There's more to it than just the downloading part, that's for sure (like putting those new files in the corresponding places, including zip files). Don't forget to back-up your original PS folder in case this screws things up.
