I design graphics with cinema 4d and I'm learning blender. I was wondering if you needed any help? I am willing to learn other programs of design if needed. E-mail me:

Every part was filled in, everything was correct.
I log into Nexus Atleast 4 times a week, and I find nothing on a daily basis.
I've sent a Message to Talad about this, No response.
I've asked other Gm's about this, No response.
I've asked players about this, SAME response, It's happened to me too, don't worry, I've been waiting just as long as you OR longer.
I feel if Talad himself doesn't hand pick someone, people will never get the chance to become WTB members.
I was also told that they are Very busy, if they were, they would be in dire need for help, and would be recruiting as many people as possible.
I observe these predictions, and therefore the only result is to feel they arn't that busy, and if they are, they don't worry about these applications or responding to them.
If they did, i would have heard of atleast 4 or 5 Players say, "Ya i filled out a form, helped out for a while, Now i'm a WTB member"
OR
"I filled out a form, got a response, did some tasks, am still waiting to become a WTB member."
All i find is:
"I filled out the form, have waited weeks or months, No response, No tasks, No feedback."
I think a Month is a long enough wait.
That is just my personal Experience, allow others to input theirs.

As we have already told you multiple times, Talad is the only one who handles many applications. One man, hundreds of people. That one man is the project leader - he has actual member tasks to look over, modify, help with, approve, as well as do things only he has the power and skill to do. So calm down - you're not applying for a job, you're applying to help a hobby. Some people wait months, but agree that it's worth it. If you have the interest and desire, please have the understanding too.

You're right Karyuu, i should wait a while, till he's not busy anymore, and then when he has time, he can hire me to help him.
Maybe when he's not busy he'll give me tasks to do as well, you know, doing things for him, that he himself can't do, because he's not busy.
Right?

I think i have been patient, and i just wanted to share my experiences with the Board.
If sharing my experience is wrong.... then I'm guilty as charged. ::|
Next time tell me what i can and can't say, before i submit the application. :-X

The situation has been explained to you many times, but you persist with such similar opinions. That's both frustrating and unfair to us.

normally I hate interfering in other peoples discussion, but I feel that you misunderstood here something completely.
From your profile I know that you are still very young, this might be the reason why you thing "to busy to get help" is a lame excuse. Maybe you have never been in a situation where you are to busy to improve the effieciency of your work. I know, this sounds like a paradoxon, but it is not so uncommon. I, for example, should have improved my data analysis program moths ago. But i didn't, because, if I waste all my time optimizing the programs, I will never use them and not get any results, no publications, no grants for the next project.
I hope you understand this as a friendly hint (really no sarcasm here) and first think a bit deeper before you get mad at overloaded people next time.
(And I hope Karyuu doesn't mind my interference here :-X)

I really have to watch the way i type.
lol, i find it really funny, that it is a Common theme that people see me as angry lol.
Like i'm smiling through half of the stuff i write :D and laughing away, i mean some of the arguments seem silly to me.
Maybe it's my diction, but whatever it is, people percieve that i'm angry. :@#\ lol :woot:
I'm not angry though, i'm sorry if it seems that way, if my writing seems to project that.
And i understood your point Pebbles, that on rare occasions time impedes you for recruiting help.
I feel this isn't one of those cases though, from the observations I've made and the Data i've collected.
If i were in talad's shoes, i'd atleast send back a reply, stating why he hasn't gotten back to me in a month.
That's me though, can't speak for others. I gotta get some sleep now, big day tommorow, and me and karyuu are at like 2:50 A.M PST, so I'll continue this discussion in the morning.

In my opinion, as a iregular forum reader and forum member since MB times, i see one problem with planeshift.
Talad wants to do too many things. I think Talad fears of losing control over the project, if its not he that does the ultimes decission making on everything.
In my opinion, Talad should delegate responsabilitys to other people, like recruiting. There is absolutely no logic to say that they are busy, so they have no time to recruit new people. Take your time, recruit one person that takes care about the recruiting part. Soon you will have a few new developers (from what ive seen there are enough people that offer their help, sure, not everybody is good enough, but im sure that many are).
From outside it looks like there is Talad, the big ruler, with his little workers, that do some work, and then wait until HE accepts it.
Ah, and while we are at it. There is one thing i think could be changed. The contributions in the art forum, why can they never go into the game? look at wesnoth. Doing the unit graphics is one bif group effort where everyone participates and helps each other. This is not the case in planeshift, its open source, yes, but the developement model is very closed i think.
But as i said, i dont realy know how the planeshift developement works internaly and i can just judge from what is written in the forum.

Actually, Talad doesn't do the recruiting for all the departments. Programming for example is done mostly by DaveG. Talad does settings because there's nobody else who can really do it in the team, and 2D/3D because he's the leader of those departments atm.

I don't think you should be criticising the devs, to be honest i think they are doing a fantastic job. If it takes them time to get back to u on your application, why not spend that time getting even better so you can show them how much your skills have improved by the time they do, that would probably give you more chance of being accepted and would benefit the game more.

I disagree i think Karyuu can do it really well.
Why not allow Karyuu the ability to Lead the Settings department?
Then recruit a prospect to be a forum moderator, or a WTB member, get someone qualified who can take over Forum moderation.
Let's face it, Karyuu spends Thousands of hours on this board and could use her talents better as leader of the Settings department.
I think Karyuu is more than qualified and would excell at this task.
So next time you see Talad, xordan, why not tell him this idea and ask him to give it a thought.
If he's as busy as you claim, and he truly needs the help, he'll welcome it.
If not, and he wants full control of the Settings department, then i guess you give it to him, and i've made my point.

Talad is going to work closely with settings prospects and members to help him find a good reliable leader. Adapting someone who already has things to do would only overwork us both.

Forgive me for being forward... but i believe i'd make a good leader for the settings department, just my opinion, ofcourse you may test me and put me through whatever hazing rituals you may have to proove my worth.
I understand you are already part of 3 departments, so why not do what i suggested?
Loose the Forum Moderator job, and put those thousands of hours towards leading the settings department?
I mean, which do you like more? The moderator job or leading settings?
Pick which you like the most and stick with it.
All i'm saying is someone can Replace you as a forum moderator, and thus Talad would have an EXCELLENT proven member of his team to lead Settings.
To me it all works out.
Get a replacement WTB member to become a forum moderator, and have karyuu lead settings.
If you see any flaws in this , please explain, i don't know all the details and i don't know what you'd like to do, so please provide the missing input.

I like moderating. It helps me connect with the community, keep up with what's going on, do tech support, welcome new members and help them adjust, answer questions, make suggestions, etc. If I wasn't a moderator, I would still hang out here as much as I do now. The moment I get tired of it, I already know who to suggest to fill in for me. Right now I'm enjoying this job.
I'm not a writer, I'm a visual artist :) Working in the Settings department would require skills I haven't trained, and it wouldn't be as interesting for me. I'm here for the very same reason everyone else is - to have fun, in my own way.

Becoming a department leader is something that happens only after a very large number of sound contributions and unwavering dedicaton. An application will get you to become a WTB, then a full developer, and only then if you have what it takes will the next position be available :} Just be aware that it's not an automatic jump. Talad really needs to feel that the person who is going to be helping him create his world understands where that world needs to go.
This is something that only time proves, not skill alone.

Whatever you say, i'm still waiting, as before, for some tasks, and again i check nexus as often as i can; atleast 4 days a week.

lol, never thought of that, good point.
Basically, when i make a goal, i go for it.
And yea, karyuu knows better than anyone how motivated i am, and he. first hand. has seen my diction and writing skills.

Just wondering if it is easy to play around wit the source such as making a map and adding new models and pretty much all visual stuff that can be seen but does not need a lot of programming knowledge, like changing existing levels to look better or makign models look better and replacing the file that already exists for that model.
Im asking because when i get back from holidays i want to do that and take screenshots of it ingame on my own server as this woudl probably be a pretty good way of showing of talents or showing improvements that can be made.

Changing the art would either mean changing the textures for existing models (the easiest), making completely new models/levels (very hard), or modifying the existing models/levels (impossible depending on what you want to change, since no one but Talad has them in a modifiable format). If you have the skills, you can make a new level entirely and "tie" it into the rest of the world on your private server. The problem is usually having those skills, and the time and patience :}
You'll likely get more specific answers if you state specifically what you are looking to do.
