Title: Uninstaller has delete my complete User Folder on Suse Linux
Post by: Hogen on September 13, 2006, 09:58:24 pm
Hi

This is my first Thread in this Forum and my english is not really good, sorry for that.
I have installed the Game in my User Directory, but then i saw that the Game didn´t make a Folder for it self.
So all the Data of the Game was between my other Data. (My Mistake)
So I want to uninstall the Game with the Uninstaller Icon on my Desktop and Install it new.
But after two Second´s i click the uninstaller Icon my complete User Folder was empty, except the hidden Folders.
So i´am a little angry about this and think that that´s a bug you may fix in the Future.

P.S the lost Data was not in the Trash, I have searched the Net to find something about undelete files on Linux but
i´am a newbie to that so i have no chance to do that.

for me your uninstaller Programm is more than a Virus and I warn all people to use it.

umm, yeah, now that I think of it, the uninstaller deletes the folder that you installed planeshift into completely. I didn't think that anyone would install it directly into their home folder instead of installing it into a new planeshift directory (like the example /opt/planeshift dir). Sorry about that    :o

I'll change it so it only removes the files that were installed, leaving any new there.

Hi

OK I didn´t throw my PC out of the Window and i managed to calm down.
I think I must thank God that i Haven´t install this game as Root.

Xordan i wonder if you can do something for me ingame in exchange for my lost Data, like a good Armor and, or
a really good Sword. Please think about that.

Hogen

PS: I have read the stories about GM Dave and that helps a lot to get my Humor back.
again sorry for my bad English this is one of the Reasons for me to play this Game, because i hope
to learn a little bit English.

i'm not saying that your a scammer or anything Hogen, but i don't know if Xordan can do this...but then again...he's a mod :P

We do not give compensation for something like that. It's silly to give items for out-of-game mistakes/bugs.

Nothing in the world can replace your son, and your just taking advantage of the situation.

Sorry for the spam..i'll stop now...

Ahm well. maybe you should have installed as root because then you would not have to install in your home directory. I personally did not laugh at you like one of the previous posters but had to smile nevertheless. I guess you are the first person I ever met who installed software in his Home directory and therefore lost data. You will see this behaviour with almost any uninstaller. even in Windows imagine you install google earth with the following path:
"C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\" without creating a subfolder "\google*\"  and then you uninstall it you will have your Desktop nice and clean. Try to explain that to your IT Consultant (Happened in  a company I counsel. that one is now counselled by my girlfriend; a psychologist.... I wish"
