Whats the full list of minerals you can mine for? I'm not asking for locations of where to mine any of it.
-
Please use the search option.
this has been answered many many times :)
Welcome to PS
hope you enjoy your stay :)
-
I did but I couldn't find anything
-
Iron, Coal, Gold, Silver, Tin, (Zinc?), Diamonds, Emeralds.
Corrections are welcome :]

No mercury?
-
Mercury is a liquid at room temperature i don't think it can be mined? ::|
-
Kiraki,
Just a note for the curious. It is conceivable that liguid mercury can exist in puddles or droplets in the open. However, one really does mine for mercury, which is most usually found in the form of the mineral cinnebar (HgS - Red mercuric sulphide). The cinnebar is processed to extract the mercury (in ancient times by crushing).
-
mmm cinnebar... think I ate one of those last night...
/me digs for a Kit-Kat
-
Yay! We definetly need mercury!I will be probably different than you guys, but its like today i realized it has something to do with Hg ;P Before it was just some cool mineral, about which i knew almost nothing, like i would in past time ;)

You can mine for anything but you won't likely find anything but the above mentioned metals/minerals. I myself have a macro for mining those as well as copper, lead and a few other things just in case. I use it to prospect. So far I haven't found anything nobody els has but I'm looking all the same. The macro is essentially a list of /dig commands one per line followed by a /roll command so I can be sure the macro has completed and not been lost due to lag. Then I run around madly pressing the macro key while navigating likely locations. It does sometimes come up with false positives though usually near minefields of some other type. They only happen when moving and can never be pinned to one spot to actually dig. What usually happens is a list of "you don't see a good place to dig" I prefer to use it without a pick in hand so I get one "you don't have a tool..." error (if you actually find something) and a bunch of "you don't see a good place to dig." You can then scroll up the status window and see which command gave you the "tool" error and know what you have found. If you use it with a tool in hand you get a bunch of "you are already busy" errors. these errors flood the screen while the others just fill the chat window.
Just curious, has anyone found any mines in the first area on the way to oja or is it pretty much useless land at the moment? The four rogues are about the only thing of interest in it as far as I can tell.

Aie Kelden, true, although mercury is usually not found naturally in its liquid state and you would almost always be mining for the ore not the metal. Perhaps I should have phrased myself differently: One cannot mine mercury directly but instead need to mine its associated minerals. Even then extreme care needs to be taken as mercury is a disastrous environmental contaminant and also highly toxic. Working with it directly can severely influence the nervous system as well as causing other detrimental effects.
My point is that it is not something to simply be mined easily and would be a lot more difficult to obtain than the rest. It would in fact probably need a very different kind of specialist than a miner to actually extract the mercury itself.
-
well don't we just have a group of... miners on our hands!
@bilbous-- doesn't that take what little fun it already had out of prospecting?...
-
What we need is to have a prospecting skill, so when you're in a certain area, you might get a message "You think you see something glitter from the earth here" or "You smell rotten eggs".
-
*you trip over a cactus and notice there's a lump of platinum wedged into your eye*
-
Are there cacti in Planeshift?
-
s'just an example, don't go all elitist on me or i'll have to pm you love letters ;)

Don't you mean more love letters?

oooh that's the spirit baby! <3

What fun is it that you are talking about -- Endlessly typing /dig this, /dig that? How are you ever going to find anything that way?
How is that fun? Besides a practiced rockhound ought to be able to spot particular minerals he is well acquainted with if it is right under his nose.
For example if I see a golden glint on the exposed rockface I should probably know enough that it is more likely a source of Iron (fool's gold) as opposed to a source of real gold. I would certainly know enough to examine it more closely.
You sound like an amateur looking for pretty things to put on your mantle not a professional prospector trying to open up new sources of overworked minerals. :o
-
no, no I'm not a prospector at all, nor am i a miner for that matter!! I just thought running around using shortcuts took what little fun there was left, right out of prospecting?... but of course, I'm not one so I wouldn;t realy know! ;)
-
whats this rumor that plats back? :P
-
iron, coal, silver, platinum, diamond, emerald, ruby, gold and zinc
-
I thought you can't mine ruby, are you sure of a place where you can do so (don't tell where), Peacer?
At least its how i interpret your post ;P
-
Though i'm not Peacer:
You can mine rubies :)
-
Yes, rubies can be mined at this time.
-
they are however worth 0 tria unless something has changed lately.
-
8 trias for a ruby last time I sold them I think
-
just checked emeralds were 8 t and the rubies were worthless. I sold them to harnquist. If you know someone who pays more I'd be happy to hear about it.
-
1 diamond = 10 emeralds = 100 rubies (some people will remember this to their deatch hehe ;D )
because every NPC merchant buys an item for 80% of its true value, always rounding down, so they buy rubies for 0 each xP
Would be good if the formula would take 80% of all the items sold at once.
-
fair enough i guess if that's the case, but effectively worthless might as well be called worthless...no? How about worthless* hehheh
* this item has a nominal value that cannot be acquired from npc's
-
Rubies will be worth something on the players market once a quest is introduced that requires them.
-
why is mining gold so darn easy, but iron takes half an hour or more jsut to get 19?
