Title: Getting around
Post by: Moggy on September 29, 2006, 05:35:53 am
I want to go to different towns but when I ventured out a bit there was no signposts to tell me where 2 go. My sis then when on with her user and spent an hour looking for a town with no luck and ending her session in the middle of nowhere. To make it more easier for us newbies let us buy a map of the section of plane shift we're in. So that we can see where 2 mine and things. It would make it look more appealing. :(

In the future you'll be able to make your own maps, but you can't get any ingame now, or ever really. There won't be a world map on the website like in all those other games, you either make one or just wander around aimlessly.

Talk to people :} Every character starts in a town with other people. If you need directions, ask someone - or if no one is around, explore. If you are lost in the wilderness with really no clue as to what to do, use the /die command - it'll take you to the Death Realm (which requires finding its own exit, but it's a small area) and then you will respawn back in the town you started in.

In the future characters will make their own maps that they can share with others - whether give away or sell. All wilderness maps have roads, however - find one and stick to it, and you should be okay.

Well, try to avoid using numbers for words first ;)

Quests can be obtained by asking them "Do you have a job for me?" or saying "Give me a quest." Not all NPCs have quests, but there are over 30 available at this time so you are bound to get one after some poking. The stickied Getting Started In-Game (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=21480.0) has a section on quests and includes several phrases that NPCs are known to respond to.

Did you bother to ask for help from other players?

At one point you used to be able to walk up to an npc and say "Where am I?" they would respond with "Hydlaa? You're in it! A bit lost..." or something to the effect.
