Title: "First times" in PlaneShift
Post by: Ralleyon on October 03, 2006, 02:34:55 pm
Ah... this is something to remember, no? Everbody has had a first time doing/seeing this or that, and we enjoy remembering such moments every now and then. Well, not all of them are pleasant... as you are about to hear in the following. Yes, yesterday was such a "first time" in PS, meeting a special category of people. And I didn't mean one representative, but two! Here's how it went...

Here I was in the plaza with a bunch of friends, and we heard that the tanner in Ojaveda needed some ulbernaut skins. So why not help him with that? Thus we decided to go hunting together. On our way there, up on the mountain, a friend of us suddenly stopped [he went AFK to answer the phone or something]. Strangely, right there in the middle of nowhere, also on the mountain was a lone adventurer. We approached and greeted him trying to make conversation until our friend "tied his laces".

The adventurer was a tad quiet [looked like he was AFK too], so we waited near by for our friend. All of a sudden, the adventurer wakes up and says:

Quote
[ADVENTURER_1] says: i dont speaks to donkeys

I was essentially speechless. What kind of a moron would insult three people who spoke nice to him up on a mountain in the middle of nowhere?! If that were to happen in real life, he would have taken one serious beating, that's for sure.

/me slaps hiself awake and tries hard to move on

Aaanyway, after this "pleasant" incident we decided to mind our own business since we are not the kind to pick on lonely feller - even if dumb as a rock (no offense Krans!).

So , here we were, going to the heart of the mountain, in the vulcano pit when we pass by a fair lass fighting an ulber. Or better yet pretending to fight him. He was stuck in a hole and she was sending flame bursts towards him. After a couple of hits, he was still at 100% life. "Oookay", I say to myself and move on. Mages have a right to train as well, right? Right. Then by the will of the Gods, the planes shifted [server reboot - a bugfix was on its way].

[As usual, a server crash sends us to various places along the path, only not where we were at that specific time. In a few moments, we are back near the pit again]. So we stopped to have a little [group] chat, grab a bite and tell a story. Now for those who know the place, the way into the heart of the vulcano is down a slope, and the ulbernauts are somewhere down in the pit. We stopped on that slope for our chat, standing in a circle.

All of a sudden, the lass appears in the picture, obviously wanting to "hunt" an ulbernaut hereself. Fair enough. But here comes the interesting part. She didn't go down there and try to take on the ulber with her magic, she didn't speak to us about letting her do the trick with luring him into the little hole in the ground... noooo. That would have been normal. Instead, she sent a magical arrow towards him. Just like that. And we were in his way of course. And he was heading our way not hers, of course. That what a wild beast does.

But would anyone care to explain to me why the Death Realm did she do that knowing what would happen? Maybe she was an evil character, or maybe she was just plain old stupid. Of course, we took out our weapons and dealt with the ulber swiftly since he was coming towards us. Now... this story might sound normal from a certain point of view but my gut feeling tell me she wasn't an evil character, but just a plain old moron.

Of course, I confronted her with it:

Quote
Ralleyon shouts: If you wish to attack, don't draw it towards us milady
[ADVENTURER_2] says: no need to shout lizard man
Ralleyon says: You were far away
Ralleyon says: You have all the right to make a kill
Ralleyon says: But not on our heads
[ADVENTURER_2] says: you could have moved

[.... I was kind of dumbstruck here]

Ralleyon says: Yes... a group a four who were telling a story were about to move...
Ralleyon says: We're warriors, not sissies
[ADVENTURER_2] tells you: only the weak attack in groups - I was tackling the ulber alone and you intervened.

[...  ::| ... she was tackling the ulber alone... riiiight... and we just happened to be in the way. Why the heck didn't she go down to tackle him, then?! If that was supposed to be the roleplay of an evil character she lost me somewhere along the way. That sounded just plain old idiotic to me... ]

Ralleyon smiles "Thanks, you are a sweetheart."

Needless to say I lost my appetite to talk to her after having been convinced with hard evidence that she was a even dumber than the first one.

So, folks, this was my "first time" to meet utter and complete RETARDS. Can you spell retard? Let me help you. R-E-T-A-R-D. Gee... and I who thought [GM]Dave was spicing his stories up. Sheesh, how wrong I was.

Haha. I had fun reading that. There are alot of people like that in alot of games.

Especially the 'I Don't Talk to Donkeys' Type of person. :D

May i suggest, not saying Retard? It may cause offence to some people. Just a tip.

The only two people that would be offended are the ones which starred in this little story. If they do read this, I would really want to know what was in their heads at the time since it was too stupid to be anything close to RP. If not, then who cares? Have a good laugh, it's the Hydlaa Plaza after all.

Do you know the player's names? I thought you did because you said [Adventurer 1] etc.

If you do why not /tell them and ask them why?

/me imagines himself sending /tell's to those two adventurers and asking them "Why are you so retarded? Please write a short essay of 300 words maximum answering that question."

First times in PS, ow dear... there I go.

I had many first times in PS. For example, it was the first time I ever charged a monster 8 times my size un armed. The first time I looked at a statue and wondered how to climb it. And also the first time I drank 18 Mountain Range Dwarven Ale without feeling as much as a teeny weeny bit wiggly.

Wow, the ammount of "first times" I had in Yliakum are more then I would dream of... or even hope for. Allow me to highlight one for you all.

Proglin's most interesting "First time"

What in the world is this?

So there I was, in PS. Took me way to long to download the blasted game, so started of grumpy. I looked at my blue winged char and thought. Wow! I look cool! My mood changed from grumpy to slightly less grumpy straight away. I walked arround a bit, like all noobs do. Bash your head against a wall.... thrice. Trade with people you don't know. Accidentely challenge an ancient and maxed out player and  so on and so forth. It was only later I found out about the wonderful chat system that Planshift has. I figured, let's give it a try. But smart as I was, I tried the help window first, and took a look at the commands.

"Kernan shouts: I NEED WEP! WHERE CAN I FIND?"
"You got warned by a GM: don't shout using caps, let alone shouting out questions like that"

Huh? What in the world was that?

"Kernan shouts: I NEED WEP AND TRIA!!! HELP!!!!"
"GM tells you: Hey, I just warned you, don't you speak english?"

Hmmm... what in the world is GMtells you? Oh well...

"Kernan shouts: ANYONE?!?!?!?!"
"GM tells you: that's it..."
"You got muted by a GM."

At that point I looked for muted in my good old pal, mr. dictionairy. OMG! Muted?!? Why? All I did was ask a question... sheesh! Bunch of !@#$

Yes people... I was one of those noobs. I was so angry I deleted Kernan instantly, and left PS alone for a week, which, later on, turned out to be some sort of personal record. A week without PS... sheesh!

"He.... I look cool"

So there I was, near the temple, with a brand new dwarf called Proglin. And thought "Hmmm, what does that say? *reads* Ah! Help! Let's try that out! And that's where it all started, I role-played for the very first time. And up till now, it's one of the best "first times" I ever had. Now let's hope my GF doesn't take this wrong.

Thanks people.

My first experience with Planeshift was pretty bad actually

So, I was a noob playing Runescape (I finally admit it..), but the game bored me more and more. There were lots of retards and the graphics were...well...bad ;) I played it 2 months max I think.

So then I started to play iRose, played it two months too, but then it turned Pay to Play, and I left.

Then, on a Dutch tech-website if frequented, I saw a thread about free MMO's, and there was this guy talking about "PlaneShift", an opensource game. Of course I was interested, it wasn't only free, but opensource even!

So I went to the game's website and read it's background.....completely.
Yes, I first read the background and only then downloaded the game, I don't know what had gotten into me  :D

So I logged into the game and was immediately disappointed.
I expected this huge grand incredibly cool world, but the world was almost empty!

I looked around, to the left I saw this guy floating high in the air, on some sort of pile of crystals.

Pretty soon I found out that the game was still in development and the background was only how the game would be in the future.

So I walked around, trying to find people. I found them in the temple.

Me: Hello
Others: ...
Me: Hi, how are you?
Others: ....
Me: So what can I do in this world?
Others: ...

Yeah, they ignored me. All the long-time MB players had made a nice little club, and they let no one in.
Nice.

So I walked around the temple and found a diamond, which I knew was the current currency.
I clicked the diamond, but what next? How did I pick it up? I saw no pick up commands.

Me: Hey, I found a diamond!
Me: How do I pick it up?

A while later this guy walked over to me.

Guy: Like this....

He then picked up the diamond and walked away.

Right...

So I logged off of course.

I then read the forums and started to post there, joining the crowd of people who were highly anticipating the Crystal Blue release.
I logged in several times more, exploring the world, picking up stuff, making bug reports about stuff known for ages... the usual.
Hell, I actually had decent conversations with some people!

Then when CB was released, it was great!
Because of all the new people, the old clubs fell appart, and the community got more open.
I could finally play the game without being ignored!
I started to play the game very actively.

And I'm still around today :)

I have neither since CB, of course there are lots of retards around, like that guy called "Cookie Behemoth" yesterday (though spelled without the "h"). But they can't get my mood down, this game is just great.

Wow Proglin, I never would have guessed.

Hi everyone... yes I've been away for a while.  I don't have a "first time" story, but I must say that I'd never been hit on as much until I started playing PS! ROTFL. I considered creating a male character so that wouldn't happen, but I though "Nah, this won't be like all those poker-room chat rooms(Which get pretty bad if your a girl btw).  Anyways, I think I've gotten hit on by someone from every generation.  No offense to the guys, but it's kinda weird.  :sweatdrop: I guess that's my first-time story.

I could tell you though that I became queen of the DR from the very beginning.  I got lost down there for hours the first time I went on. (How fun!) Back in the days when it was pretty tiny and nothing was really there... Well, that's my reason for not having a first time story.

If I get a good one in the mean time though, I'll let u all know.  :D

Harena A.

(Who is at College now so is unable to get on PS  :o *darn it!*  :@#\)

I remember my first time in Planeshift.

It all started one terribly boring morning.  I decided that morning that I like free games so I googled it.  Low and behold, the god of the internet bought me to Planeshift.

For the first little while I tro..posted on the forums before jumping in game.

My first log in when something like this

Cadoras (Or whatever name I was using at the time) shouts : I am a noob, help me
Other (Can't remember...Hevrah I think...prehaps Golmir): Do you really want those to be your first words
Cadoras: As long as they aren't my last.

It was a nice short noobedom.  I entered at an interesting time you see, because CB was right around the corner.  Sadly, the corner just kept on moving and moving and moving.

I loved MB, I love CB, but MB was special.  From the crystal hunting to the... umm... crystal hunting.  To the modding and the rolplaying.

When CB came out I went into an MB-withdrawal and left Planeshift for a couple of months, that's how much I loved it.

Thats exactly how I felt. I loved MB and I left Planeshift for a while also. I loved MB that much.

I was quite glad that MB moved further and further away. The last day of MB was good though! Lots of cool things happening.

I loved the Crystal hunting, and the games people used to make up to pass time etc. I wish MB could be ressurected  :'(

My first time playing PS was on my friend's old Powerbook.  I'd been trying to get CB .03.06 running on my linux box.  I'd been _trying_ to get various versions running for about six months, but not that hard, obviously, or I'd have gotten it sooner.  Anyway IIRC, at the time there was a mac binary but no linux binary.

The Powerbook's screen sucked, and none of the textures were loading proper.  So i was wandering around Hydlaa, it was all dark, and nothing looked right.  Plus, my Character was a  Kran by the name of Lister Ofsmeg.  I even started the Red Dwarf guild.  That lasted um....about 2 minutes before Alden talked to me.  I remember though, he was very patient and polite, explained the naming policy, and made sure I was OK with the name I got.  This kindness despite my overwhelming stupidity made PlaneShift seem very special to me, and I haven't gone for too long without playing since then.

I was introduced to planeshift by my husband Stronith. I entered the game with him and had him show me around. I consider myself lucky as that day I met these people, most of which we great examples of roleplayers. (If you are wondering how I remember since I have played for a year and a half ... I still have my logs from the first day.  :D )

Kayruu, Demarthl, Necro, Hazel, Sheridan, Kandrek, Acheronista,  Lordbug, Leina, Draklar, Kerena, Sekhmet, Harvey, Agara, Janner, Noxide, Cereja, Thormor, Verrliit, Mane and Kraith.

I did what every newbie does and asked stupid questions, not realising that half these questions I could answer myself. I was taken by planeshift and spent that whole month wired to the computer. My eyes were blood shot and I didn't get much sleep. I spent the first month learning the mechnics of the game and then I got bored. This is when I started with my roleplaying.

Here was my first attempt at roleplay in planeshift.

Quote
Zorbels looks on with awe and someday wishes to be just as powerful as the warriors she watches in trepor valley practicing their fighting skills.

Zorbels "Snarls" at the Trepor in front of her and extends her claws. She then pounces and sreams die you foul thing! After the duel with the trepor Zorbels baths herself thinking "what a good fight, that was almost to close for comfort. She decides to drink a healing potion that was a gift from her good friend Necro.

Zorbels thinks about Stronith and misses him wishing he was here to fight along side her.

Zorbels checks out her belly botton and picks the fuzz out, and thinks to herself "I am so bored, what shall I do with myself today?" she then see's an individual that she has been meaning to speak with and strolls over to find out some information.

Zorbels: Excuse me good sir. Am I to understand my guild the phoenix it has an alliance with your guild??

Mitaki: Correct

Zorbels: Do you help us when other guild members are not around and do we trade and sell to each other?

Mitaki: Not exactly, this alliance was more of a similar cause alliance, not a friendly one...

Zorbels: May I ask why good sir?

Zorbels: or is that to much to get in to?

Zorbels: I will understand

Mitaki: Our guilds and the League of Avatars all wish to have peace and balance in Yliakum...Well I'm not sure about the Avatars, but thats the reason. We decided to work together to fight the chaos spreading across Yliakum...

Mitaki: For this, we are going to be allied for a short time to help eachother with our goals, until then we are allies, yet I do not wish to get too friendly with other guilds, as each one might have a hidden purpose

Zorbels: I understand and thank you for speaking with me, If I could have my way we would all be one big guild but that is not the way things work I am beinging to see

mitaki: Again thank you for speaking with me and safe travels

Mitaki: You too

Zorbels bows and takes her leave to research her guild and it's workings further

I really wish that MB had a built in logger (yes, ciry/aineko's mods added one but I didn't have those for my first day in MB) so that I could read over the logs of my first day. My -real- first day playing PS was creating 20 characters for atomic blue and falling through the floor with each one.

I see lots of people missing MB... and I agree, some things were better about it. Probably because most of the powerlevelers skipped over it because there was no combat :P

Good times, good times.

First times...A long time ago, in MB, I had logged on for the first time. I was excited, happy, and ready to kill stuff. Soon someone informed me that we could only collect rocks. That's where I got into my first fight, over shout, cursing at people and PS...yes, I was the violent type. Until Golmir shut me up :)

And that kids, was me.

I wasn't much of a toddler, I looked around, investigating my surroundings and got loose on the Hydlaa dungeon :P

I'm not much of the social type so I rarely talk if not necessary :)
My first char was with a kran, called Kwartz, or something, not the legend :]

I gathered crystals for a while, got used to MB, then quit a week, maybe 2 weeks later. I still regret it :l
Now i'm doing the best I can to contribute to the community I missed :]

My first time in MB was good.

I was introduced to the game buy my cousin in Real life, Vanderbal. He showed me the mechanics of the game and shomed me the things you could do.

Then I met others such as:

Agara, Karyuu, Axilum, Anadromos, Legi, Lordbug, Demarthl, Golmir (and all of the Defenders of Yilakum, my 2nd guild), of course Vanderbal (and all of the Champions of Yilakum, my 1st guild)

They all made me very welcome in the game, and we had some good times roleplaying and talking for long hours into the night.

And the first time you find the diamond, amazing. You really felt you achieved something :D

The first thing I noticed in MB was how freakin slow walking around was.  I think I ran around a bit, found a few crystals here and there.  Then I discovered how to get onto the roofs, and that occupied my time for about the next week.

I started playing PS about this time last year when ps was version 0.3.013 (i think or was it .012?). After a few months of not playing EQ2 (only played for 1 month) I wanted to play another MMORGP and I did a few searches on Google and found ps. After about 4 hours downloading I went to install and make my first character. I made my lemur and logged in to this world. As someone that had played MMORPG's before i thought ok lets find a quest as a start. I looked around and asked a few npcs for quests and got no where I logged off and back on a few times and kept trying to get a quest as i thought it would help me to learn more about this game (little did i know how useless quests were in this and hard they are to do). I finally got a quest from Sharven and i was told to find the library to complete this quest. Ok so now i had a job to find this library and off i went asking npcs where the library is. The npcs where not that helpful in telling a noob where the library is. After asking many people another noob helped me find the library and i could then try to work on this quest. I tried to talk to the librarian (trying not to make this a spoiler) and he did not want to talk to me instead he told me he wanted to have me committed. So i decided to try to get a quest from him and that worked so now i had 2 quests to work on. I had no luck with them at this point. I kept trying to get this quest working and had no luck over the next few days. I also had my character renamed for a reason i still dont know today to Illori. I gave up on quests and started to kill rats and then mine gold. After about 2 weeks in ps I had decided to join a guild and I looked up on the forums the different guild that were ingame. I had a lot i wanted to join but as I was not good at RP i knew a lot of them where not for my character, but then i saw Janner's Way and i knew that was the guild for me. I contacted Janner and became a member of his guild.

I hope you enjoy my little story

Ind and I started playing PS back in September of 04... right after our subscription to FF XI ended :P.. I didnt talk to anyone for months really.  I became a power crystaler soon after which was actually pretty fun for me.  We started a guild that didnt have anything to do with PS (Sentinels of Ragnarok) during a time when you could have more than one leader in a guild(hint hint).  A good memory I have is right after CB came about, I was outside of the magic shop and Taser challenged me to a duel.  I accepted(with a sword in one hand and a pick in the other) and she destroyed me.  Either way it was alot of fun.

I started playing PS because Natrina (my IC and OOC sister) told me about this game she had downloaded.

At first I thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever. A game where you just talked and collected jewels to get useless weapons. But Natrina seemed to be having a blast, and she came with such a cool background for herself and her guild. So I thought... Let's give it a try.

I didn't make much questions back then. There was little to know and Natrina told me what I needed. I was already familiar with roleplaying games and it wasn't too hard making Sangwa fit in the place.
So I just listened to those around me, until I thought I knew enough to engage in their conversations. Those were fun times. We would gather at the temple and discuss the most thrilling things. The Cabal was our only pseudo-concern. And so my first times went well.

First character, and first time in CB:

Finaly downloaded the game after a week of nights. Damn ye dialup! I thought I would use a more unique and amusing character, rather than the hero types, so I brought Arnigus Faymore to the game from the forum....

The lag fom my pc was awfull to say the least, which was ok, seeings how good old Arn is no small man in girth... Ok, he is just plain fat. Very fat. Anyways, it took half an hour just to walk across the plaza, almost to Harn's. Then someone walked up and uttered ther words I will never forget, and opened up the world of roleplaying to me...

"Hey sexy body!"

Then he ran off...yes...he. Arnigus then crashed, or maybe fainted. Then my old pc crashed and burned. :)

PS works great on my new one, thank you very much.

Untar Demune joined January as my first RP character that I could move with. Ten minutes after logging in, the kind poet became mired in an RP that lasted until the day he died...last week. I found playing him calming, as he never really saw the world as everyone else did.

Then there was Krook, my first rude character. First words spoken by Krook, followed by his first / me:

Krook says: Ya blasted kids! Git off the plaza an go do some work.
Krook grumbles about ugly people being alowed on the streets in the daylight

And just for Proglin, something Krook overheard:

Proglin says: ow wow.... Elesy.... you are THE most wonderfull girl i ever met!

My first time on line as my favorite character in March, I said nothing, and have said nothing ever since. *bows to Aeshion*

I made a promise not to talk about my first experiences in PS because it's considered "badmouthing".  What I remember mostly though was being snubbed by the Feline's Lair and being killed by Amheh 25 times in a row.  And stealing Teegress's steel ingot, but I think that was later on.  They start with the steel ingots, then they move to the dark battle axes... I tell ya.

I can't really remember particular instances... I remember what it was like, and a couple of things, but not true first experiences... I would ask if anyone else could remember the first time they met me, but that seems rather egocentric.

obviously when I got here I had a problem with some of the oldbies around.. especially Seperot.. and when you (Phinehas) kept posting on his side (or so I thought), I couldnt help but think you were his shadow :P.. I definately didnt get a good first impression

Got hired as a night shift operator for a medical transcriptionist company.

Found that there was nothing to do on nights off, so I searched for an online game to beta test.

Found PS, posted this: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=18038.msg199343#msg199343  ( [edit] This was time when the server was down due to the characters being wiped [end edit])

Once I finally got in game, I talked to an npc enki standing around one of the carts in akkaio (all those seem to be long gone for now).  I was able to get him to reply to "hello" and that was it.  Then I walked out the gate, and saw a Rogue and tried to talk to him like I did the enki.  The rogue replied with stabbies.  I ran away.

After that I went to the warehouse where I met Drey, and I annoyed him while collecting gold falchions when the rats still dropped gold falchions.  I think one of my characters still has her pair of gold falchions from the rats.  I haven't used that character in some time though.  She's "sleeping" at the moment.

Anyways, I got some trias and decided to explore, but stuck in every little thing, and thus the unstick command became my dearest friend.  So having failed to get anywhere even remotely with a elevation change involved, I went back to killing rats and collecting gold falchions.

A week later, I met Ayshe and her, at that time anyway, right hand menki, Proteous.  And with them and the rest of the FL, I learned "RP".

and as Paul Harvey would say, "And you know, the rest of the story."

--------------------------------
That's what I would call my real first time.  I Remember playing MB for about 5 minutes, saw that it was just still too new for even me, and decided to come back at a later time.  Then I completely forgot about the project until stated above.  :)

I remember when I first talked to you ingame Phin. It was in the tavern, if I remember correctly.

Good RP'er, but you gotta loosen up a bit ;)

But w/e, it was cool!

In what sense? My character, or me when I roleplay?

And actually I was hoping for some of the people like... say... Sangwa, and Valby and stuff... Back from when I was fairly new...

Argh... It's annoying, I know I have some good stories, but since I was absent for a year I've forgotten most of them by far...

No, you on here, you always seem tense. No offence to you.
