In game, can there be an option to block /tells from all non-Game Masters? If someone tries to send you a tell, they would instead get this message:
"Sorry, but this player has decided not to recieve tells from other players."
The reason for this would be that /tells are used pretty much exclusively to convey out of character information, and getting into the spirit of things only to have someone start throwing /tells at you can be annoying at certain times. According to the players guide, we aren't supposed to be using them anyway except to talk to GMs.
-
Not using them exept to GMs?
How else are you going to arrange to meet someone in game or something?

According to the players guide, we aren't supposed to. Even then, you could always turn the block off.

I was reffering to the "Only to GM's" with this.
I suppose it does make it more realistic if you dont, but also it stops you from talking to other players that are far away. I mean, whats the point of having a buddy list if you can't use /tell? :-\

You can use /tells if you want to, but I think people should have the option of being protected from OOC /tells. And since /tells are OOC 99% of the time, that means opting out of them except when talking to Game Masters.

In the future the chat windows will be completely customizable, it'll probably be implemented then.
-
It sounds like a good idea

i had this noob come yp to me, i helped him out and he jsut kept wanting more and more, before he started being a creep i decided to be nice and friendly and actually talk off game on msn messenger...he ended up telling me to break up with my boy adn a bunch of other stupid stuff which led me to block him on msn
on game though he wouldnt stop /tell ing me, asking questions every two seconds, complaining about the game and the bugs and etc....
i was gonna report him to try and get him to leave me alone but i felt too weird about it and i ahdnt told him to stop talking to me because well..im a pushover...
but being able to block people from /tell ing you would be awesome \\o//
i dunnos if you could already do that, but it is a fabulous idea :D
-
You can already add people to your ignore list using the /ignore command. I mean blocking all tells however from everybody, except Game Masters. The idea is that it would create a more immersive experience, and it would prevent people from trying to get information from you in an OOC way.
-
@Zanzibar there is some kind of auto-repeat to /tells, i don't know the command, but i guess you could use that to let people who /tell you know that you generally don't want OOC /tells

But I'm still interupted by their tell, and I have to go through the trouble of sending the macro, and then there's no guarantee that they'll respect it.
-
This would be good, but only if you had the option to block the /tells or not.
-
It's not meant for that purpose, but you can just use /away <message>
Example:
/away I do not want to receive tells!
If someone tells you then, he/she will receive:
[Auto-Reply] I do not want to receive tells!
-
Well, GMs can just use /warn for nice big red letters :p
though, as i understand it now, just dont look in the tells tab and everyone is happy?
*slaps self for posting in wishlist*

I had thought of that, but you're still interupted by the tell.

I think this is a good idea. But I don't think I'll ever use it. :woot:
Anything that gives us more control of the information we receive is a plus in my opinion.
-
hmmm well not against such an idea, but personally I think the /ignore list is enough. specially when combined with the /away command, but then again I don't feel a single tell now and then interupts with my roleplaying.
I somehow feel it would probably be used by nonroleplayers that "play evil" more often then by roleplayers aswell.

The /ignore command is something different entirely. My suggestion is in the interest of having a more immersive roleplaying experience, not in protecting yourself from harassment.
-
I read that, but seein tells are now in a different tab then normal talking I don't see why a normal /away message stating you are roleplaying and so not responding to tells wouldn't be enough. Specially if you can throw people on the ignore list if they don't listen.
-
But if you dont want to even be notified of Tells, or recieve them, Zanzi's idea is better than Ignore list, because you wont have to add each individual name to the list.
-
With the latest chat window changes one can configure the window so that the Tells tab is never flashing. Tells would be still there, but your don't get notified about them. It will be available for everybody in the 0.3.017 release.

I <3 the sound of the new CW already!
