I dont know if this is planned or not :innocent:
but I think it might be cool to implement some special/unique armors for each race (and could thus boost some stats)
like...
armor for Lemur boosts mental stats
armor for Kran boosts physical stats
etc.
I think it could also be interesting if these race-specific armors could be crafted/made.
-
overdone idea which sound even worse without proper explanation.
-
ok... then how about just the ability to make race specific armors when you can make armors (using the job skill) maybe someone can build upon my idea; I mean all races wearing the same armor... send in the clones. :sweatdrop: maybe someone can suggest an improvement to my idea (since Nikodemus said it is overdone).
-
I mean, it is good that every race has unique armor, but the stats bost is just like from nowhere, or its from other so called MMORPGs.
Also you didnt read the sticky why "rule".
You have posted somethink on which you could write half a page about, telling about every possible detail which may be usable to the devs, but instead you came up with pretty random wish. You just have to learn more about PS.
-
There probably will be stuff like this eventually. There already is a ring that raises all your stats by 20 points, so there will probably be other items that do so as well.

:surrender:
Yea, I suppose you do present a valid point, I am not exactly creative with ideas. I still think that it would be a nice way to personalize your character if you could make race specific armors so that it encompasses the cultures of each various race. But I am taking an interest in the topic so I guess that says something. I do agree with you about the fact that stat raising seems bad (I realize some problems with my ideas when someone else gives me constructive criticism like you did :)) I am assuming I can post the details as the rest of the ideas slowly get in my head eh?

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for in this thread - all the armors already look very different for each race. Are you asking for race-specific stat bonuses upon armor equips? Or perhaps even further customization so you'd have more variety within each race armor?
-
Basically further customization so we would have more variety within each race armor.

I am just saying that the armors make everyone look alike. Stat bonuses could possibly be on those customized armors, however:

That's definitely to come :] Variation in appearances is going to be plentiful. Right now the armor/texture system is a bit limiting (we don't have a way of changing separate colors or particular pieces from a certain armor part yet) but it's not going to remain that way forever.

Try to avoid suggestions for "more" things. Such wishes usually fall into the category of common sense, and we would like to see only unique and unthought of ideas here. Give the Wishlist Rules a read sometime to better understand the sort of threads that do and don't belong here (http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/1698/happycbh5.gif)
Think you have any really unique ideas for custom armor?
-
I guess the next time I come up with an idea I will wait untill I have all the details about it before posting it here >_> but for this topic can you jI just add the ideas as they come to me?
I have thought of making some armors with the hides in combination with some mining materials (except those used with metalurgy).
perhaps different combinations of crystals can produce different patterns specific to the race's culture.
and various combinations of hides can make it more durable/more heavy however I would assume that the armors made like this(with hides) would be considered to be light armor

Race specific armor is fine but I would also prefer a religion specific armor that at the very least affects its looks. For example, if I pick a Kran with Black Flame or Laanx religion, I'd like the armor to look on a darker side. Even though Kran seem to be mostly associated with Talad religion in PlaneShift history, I would hate to find some rare and poweful armor later in the game, only to end up looking like some kind of Paladin. I understand that some people may very well want to play a Paladin type of Kran. But others may prefer something like this instead (my favorite kind):

(that's a Daedric armor from Elderscrolls)
or this:

It would make perfect sense, since I very much doubt that Talad would bless any such armor. Black Flame and Laanx on the other hand would... Although I suspect that caliber armor would be obtainable rather late into the game, with quite developed stats. Until then, there could be less elaborate variations of it. And by the way, it does not all have to include "red" and "black in it". Although those look exceptional, it is also fine to include blue, green, silver, golden etc. Heck, it can even include white. I've just given examples for a structual style and overall impression. :)
As I said before, I understand that some people may prefer to be a "wolf in sheep's clothing", meaning that they may want a Paladin type of armor but yet be far from a Paladin but that to me seems a bit uninspiring. What good is all that darkness and fury if you can't show it? Anyway, if someone is really determined on playing such a character, surely they can pick "Talad" or "Atheist" as their religion and pretend that they're really secretly worshipping one of the other two. And there you have a "wolf in sheep's clothing".
EDIT: Judging from some of the Bronze Doors guards and leader descriptions, as well as certain Death Realm characters, it looks like religion specific armor may already be a possibility anyway. :)
Anyway, I kind of like the new Kran helm with the horns, that's more to my liking. Though not a fan of Kran's silly facial expression poking through the front. Would've preferred a full face helm instead. But it's a step in the right direction somewhat. :)
By the way, I also like the Ylian heavy armor you guys posted on the forum. Can't wait to see more of such level of detail for all the armor/clothing in the game.

Just to add something, the helmets aren't bound by race as far as I know - at least some helmet models definitely aren't. A dwarf is just as able to grow horns as a Kran :]
-
I seen a GM with a helmet on and i have to say it looked like he was carrying two bananas on his head ;D
but the spikey shields gimme one!!! :P
-
The horned helmet could use some work. It seems to look decent from the side but silly from the front. Also, the horns are so far back that it looks as if they're going to pierce your back, if you tilt your head backwards or just look up high enough. On the other hand, I don't want to criticize too much, it's a good effort from the designers. Plus, there's always at least one funny looking helm in any MMORPG, whether intentional or not. The helmet actually reminds me of Hellboy's type of horns, except with horns pushed back a bit too far. If the horns could be adjusted with a little more forward direction like in the this picture:

As for spiked things in hands, I think I'd prefer a huge two-handed spiked mace or a spiked mace in one hand and a hammer or axe in the other. :P But shields can be fun too, depending on a situation. Unfortunately, maces & hammers don't work in the game yet.

I love witchking's ideas [feels relieved that he doesnt need to come up with ideas of his own anymore]
;)
