Whenever I try to start it, it just appears in dock and then just dissapears in seconds. no window, nothing. X-/
And by the way, to all the people who want to just pop in, dump the install guide on me and leave, the whole thing is installed.

Hello have you read through this link. http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=14416.0
good luck.
-
Yes I did.... It annoys me when people think that every problem can be sloved by some starting guide. I'm not even sure you read my post at all.
-
From the guide.
4. The next step (once the update is finished) is to set the permission bits so that you can run the client. You'll need to set the permission bits through Terminal. Open Terminal, located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal(.app). In the Terminal window, type "cd " (note the space " " after "cd"). Then, locate your Planeshift 3D folder in the Finder and drag it into the open Terminal window. Press return.
Then type:
"chmod 755 psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient"
and press return.
And then type:
"chmod 755 pssetup.app/Contents/MacOS/pssetup"
and press return.
Finally, type
"chmod 755 updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater"
and press return.
That is the most common problem.
-
hmm.... Don't actually remember that part. Must be new :sweatdrop:
EDIT: "No such file or directory"
-
Oi. Did you use the Java updater? If so, paste a log for me here. Make sure it's actually in the PS folder. ;)
-
Paste a log?
-
Tells you how in hear.http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=17918.0
-
Nono. I'm talking about from the Java updater. When you update with the Java updater is outputs a bunch of text to that area above the status bars. Paste the text you see there after the update completes.
-
So I have to update again? :o
-
Ayep. If you're up to date, not much should happen...
-
It won't let me copy????? :o
-
Just select the log with your mouse (it should be highlighted, probably in blue or grey) and then hit Command (apple) and C. Then come over here to the forum, reply, and in the post field, hit Command (apple) and V. It works fine; I do it all the time. ;)

Are you logged in as an administrator?
-
Yes I am. Only one account on my computer.
-
Just a thought, File version.dat
-
Mmm, could be. Delete the file "version.dat" from your Planeshift folder and then update.
-
If you select the Planeshift folder, do a Get Info, drop down Ownership & Permissions and then Details. Who is listed as the Owner and the Group? Is it your account? There are more accounts in there than what is shown in the Users panel.
If the Owner is not your account, or is set to be other than Read/Write, then make it so. If the Group is set to be anything other than your account make sure it is Everybody, and make sure also set to Read/Write.
I have seen this issue with other applications whose permissions were simply set wrong and thought I should mention it on the off chance that it might work ... Good luck!
-
I'm the only Mac user I KNOW. I hardly think there would be some Big Brother person running my computer.
-
Oi. The OS has a bunch of built-in users and it is possible that permissions could get changed around to be one of those built-in users, but I'm not sure that's the problem. Ok, extreme measures: uninstall completely and then install from the Java Installer in the Guide thread.
-
A log from a command line launch of psclient or the last few bits of Console.log after a GUI launch would probably be of the most help in understanding what's going wrong.

[actually after this update?, I got briefly into the mine area in Bronze Doors and before I could even do anything I crashed.][by the way I put 2 in the window area of the updater]
[I ran a console log and have it saved to send to you, if needed.]
I also noted that while looking at it the sound was enabled, so remembering that sound was sometimes bad in the past, i unchecked sound in pssetup. It still crashed once I got into the mine. The only change in the mine was that there were not other characters in view]
[after deleting ‘version.dat’ I ran the updater.jar again and got

So it works? :)

I'm trying to install for the first time the 3.0.15 version. After putting the folder in my applications, neither psclient nor updater open for more than a few seconds and never show up. Tried some of the solutions here, none worked. Got errors and "no file or directory".

:offtopic: Please use your own thread. Technical questions often require lengthy responses. On a similiar note, 0.3.015 will not work on the Laanx server. The server requires 0.3.016 currently. This means to run it, you will need to build and compile the client yourself. While there are no step-by-step instructions for MacOSX builds, you can read the instructions here to get the gist of it: http://planeshift.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/docs/compiling.html

Seeing as the 0.3.015 builds is the only one available for download, and the updater will not open either, which I have seen remarked by other people experiencing this problem, I don't think it's off topic at all. This is a bug that several people are experiencing, so there must be something common in wrong that warrants discussion.
-
Maybe the problem wasnt with the post, but the name of the thread being too generic then. Technical questions shouldn't be lumped together unless all the symptoms are exactly the same because the answers can confuse the users and others trying to get advice on his problem, but not yours. In my mind, it became off topic when you listed new symptoms. Also, hold off on downloading the source files. I've referred the question to higher powers (or anyone else that knows) to check on if 0.3.015 is upgradable to 0.3.016 after installation.
-
3.016 is certainly available from the updater. It has been for quite a while. I don't know where you heard otherwise. Please try the Java updater.
Regarding the clutter of this thread: it's cluttered. And rather than separating out the 3-4 different threads, I'm just gonna close the whole thing up. If you continue to have problems after trying the Java updater, shoot me a PM or post a new thread here. Thanks. iLock.
