Title: Error: You are not allowed to register on this forum
Post by: Ralleyon on October 08, 2006, 07:49:59 pm
I was doing some advising today and on receiving some wish-list related suggestions I told the user to check the official forums. Which he did, and tried to register but received the error above. I tried telling him that he must have missed something and after a while tried the registering sequence myself. I was suprised to see that he was right, since I am receiving the same error message although the registration process on my behalf was flawless. (CAPTCHA verification and everything)

The exact error is:

An Error Has Occurred!
Sorry, you are not allowed to register on this forum!

It can't be a generalized issue.

There's a "Latest Member" functionality, that returns "Suigal".

I've checked the profile of said user, only to see the date of registration.

Perhaps there's something wrong, related with OS or navigator?

In theory that should only be possible when his IP was banned.
Which leads me to the question if the user uses AOL or has spammed some porn lately...

It's also possible the user is using some ancient browser.

It might be that Acraig had to ban an IP range instead of a single IP address.

Yup, that's why I wondered if he used AOL.
He should probably try again with Firefox to make sure it's not some ancient version of IE interfering.

I have the same issue, so this time I tend to believe it's not a user error - replace user thingy. Like Bereror said an IP range might have been banned, but my ISP is not AOL or anywhere close. Let's see how this goes... I don't need another account anyway, thankfully :)

As for a casual error, no way. Different computers, different browsers, different OS'es.

Due to recent spaming of our forums I have blocked particular emails providers from registering.  These are mostly sites where you can get a free email account.  So if you are prevented from creating an account with one email address try using a different email address liike gmail or something along those lines.

If someone wants to spam and they use Yahoo's email can't they just make a Hotmail account though?

:ban:    The entire problem is centered around the E-mail addresses. I have been using a Yahoo.com E-Mail address for awhile, but the Forums would not allow me to register with it. I made a Gmail account from google, and I have had no problems since.

Sure, let's ban everything. That way the gene pool won't be contaminated...
