Title: The UN-common Cold [devious RP]
Post by: Under the moon on October 10, 2006, 01:42:45 am: Edit after the RP ended: Ok, folks, I am going to go through this thread an highlight all clues, and what they meant, and lead to.

IMPORTANT! *edit
As you have found out by now, I started this plague. The rules are like this:

"You have been exposed to the Un-Common Cold [RP] If you are infected or a carrier, put this in your description."

Instructions: Sneeze on people (in a nice way) and /tell them in a shortcut /tell $target You have been exposed to the Un-common Cold RP virus. You may be infected, or a carrier. Read the RP forum for details.

Check back here once every day to see if anyone has news.

Your mission is to find out where the plague started [this was your first Clue. You were told right out that it had an origin. That origin was Xillix's meeting.], what started it, and how to stop it. NOTE, this is not a 'task' type quest. It will take teamwork, and talking to others. You will have to follow rumors and clues that will not jump right out at you. No one rumor will lead you on the right path. This quest is designed to take a week or more to end, if the clues are followed. Think of it as a scavenger hunt with your life on the line.

NOTE 2: There is no chance in not getting sick if you choose to take part. The virus targets specific people [that should have told you right away that this virus was being controlled, and not natural.]. Those that do not choose to take part or 'think' they are immune just arn't targeted. They must not be important enough. ;)

NOTE 3: Kran should be immune (yes, that is a clue) A big clue, in fact. Kran are resistant to many forms of magic, if you know your settings. The virus was controlled by magic.]

NOTE 4: Since everyone can not be ingame at the same time, you may post what you heard ingame or thought was a clue here. You may also keep it to yourself. Should you want to help start some of the rumors, PM me, and we will talk. Note within a note: rumors given out this way will be very vague, and some not even seem to make sense...until you put them with others. You may also post here who you got the sickness from, and anything you think was important about it.

NOTE 5: Other instructions will follow once the propper clues have been found, and told to me in the thread, or in a PM.

NOTE 6: There is not a massive reward at the end of this quest, or even one at all, loot-wise. However, my characters are not heroes, and will not come back to life if they die. They are also not immune to the plague.

SYMPTOMS: as of now, chest pains and sneezing for all. Additional race symptoms
Klyros will have dry skin
Elves (both) will have ringing ears
Dwarves (you are going to love this) will have lost their taste for beer. In fact, it makes them sick. >:)
Lemurs will not be able to sleep much, and have thinned skin.
Diaboli become sensitive to the light...very.
Enki.......start to shed.
Humans (both) have no extra symptoms.
Kran seem immune, and do not carry the virus. hmmmmm [I don't know how I could have been more obvious with tis one.]

By now the healers of the realm will begin to notice that this does not seem like the average cold that everyone had thought. It is lasting longer than it should, and symptoms are beginning to change from what they should be. The runny noses have vanished, but the sneezing has remained. The headaches have gone as well, to be replaced be pains in the chest. Oddly, ALL people with the sickness became more ill at exactly the same time, whether two days with the cold, or two hours. It is almost as if something connects all the ill folks together. [you now know this to be a magic compulsion glyph that controlled the virus.] No attempts at healing with magic or potions has helped. The only thing that does relieve the symptoms for a time are the now out of season mushrooms. Very convenient, isn't it?

Also odd, Kran seem to be immune.

There are many questions sounding in many minds. Where did this start? How did it start? How bad will it get? And...maybe the most important questions of all: Who started it...and why?

I have been setting this up for months, if that gives you any clues as to how deep this goes.

hmm this is quite... odd, Their chest hurts and they start sneezing, seems like auithianilize has it, or it could be a possibility, she sneezed a couple of times, I tried to look at her body but was too unfocused to notice anything. It's not like the sneezing some did in the temple, completely different. And the krans didn't seem to be affected, maybe... i should find a priest of talad or something. Hope i don't get this virus, my head is hurting enough allready.

Hehe. Some of you are on to something, but I won't say who. *evil grin*

By the way, this is an open ended, all inclusive, and unscripted RP. I have it set up in an "if this, then that" format, with multiple paths to 'solve' it. There are no heroes but you yourselves. A first day newblin has the same chance of being the hero of the day as anyone else.

The symptoms of everyone -all at the same instant (will have to 'pretend' a bit for that')- seem to have gotten better today. You will now only sneeze one in a great while. No symptoms are impairing at the moment, just a nuisance. Your normal RPs will not be affected greatly, besides the minor existing symptoms, and the occasional sneeze.

also maybe the old mushrooms relief the symtomps because the disease was spreaded on every living plant before the most mushrooms were gathered (just somethings i though make sence PM for explanation if u dont get it =)

Rumor had it that a certain poet had seen something last weekend. Rumor has it that the poet picked something up at said event, after two shadowy men had left. Rumor has it he was bringing the objects to the guardsman Jefecra for unknown reasons. Rumor also has it that the poet was robbed and killed right in front of Kada's, and that no objects were found on him.

Rumor has it the poet was a powerful empath, and that when a powerful empath dies, his last thoughts are often absorbed by whatever he was holding at the time. Further rumor has it that if a person holds this object tighly in the exact spot the empath was killed, the holder will see those exact thoughts, right then, or later in dreams.

[[Aka, first person who finds out what those object were, and 'takes' them (as they were not 'real' objects) from who has them now (by any means deemed....well, you get the point) ....gets a first person view of the encounter the poet saw, and was going to tell the guard about.]]

The symptoms of the cold are slighly worse today. Everyone will have gotten cold fingers at exactly the same time.

I am setting up a hospital in the temple ground floor in sharven's pit plesease if you are ill confine yourself to this location the spread is so rapid we must take measures to stop it. Please Kran Volunteers come aid in the temple [I will be in and out of game, any Vespers please run the hospital, and any Kran who have a mind to aid please do we will need aid, and a constant presence of roers in and around the temple] Quarentine is instituted for the area of the temple and anyone making their way through is subject to the un common cold. You have been warned.

Update: The Cold gets worse today, including coughing and an itchy nose. Everyone who has the cold gets these symptoms at the exact same time....

*edit* Folks, do not forget to POST what you think are clues here, then talk about them ingame as if they were rumors you heard. This Quest is set up so that you HAVE to work together to solve it. Many of you have been there when I gave out the clues ingame. I have been giving them out for the past week and a half (and longer, if you know the bigger story). You just have to put them together, and think on it. This is a deep plot, and devious. Remember that. ;)

Xillix, I highly doubt Laanx would waste time curing your itchy nose, and would go for dying people or people without families. I can't really pray to God in real life and get rid of my allergies, or a cold, or anything like that. I think this common cold should be cured with something manmade, not magical God powers.

A little cold isn't really worth Laanx's attention, and them just praying and magically being cured puts all this work building up the RP to waste. Now everyone's gonna pray, get cured, and there would be absolutely no purpose for all these mushrooms and things. I really wish people would stop taking RP's into their own hands and ending it whenever they want with some sort of magic thing that lets everyone live happily ever after.

Where was the "teamwork" in this? After 4 pages of figuring out what to do, Xillix just prays and gets cured, without warning. That's not teamwork, that's just wanting to end the RP and get on with your life. It ruined pretty much everything that's happened up until now, because the mushrooms and other things discussed will no longer be needed.

Xillix has no idea why she was cured. I -told- her she was, yet no one else is. So would a priest of Laanx not assume her god had done this? The RP is far from over. This is just the begining of Act 2.

yeha nim slow and everything but i ahve been talking and helping and what not...and then all of a sudden someones prays and gets better?

But I will not give you the whole plot. Stop being lazy, and start putting things together. This is an -advanced- quest, not like the simple ones ingame now. There are layers on top of layers here.

Xillix being cured is probably one of the biggest clues of all. Think like your characters, not like yourself. See the world through their eyes for a moment, and react upon it. The RP is FAR from over. I have let Xillix in on a few of the secrets, but not the entire plot. Within the next few days, you will see why.

(this was not directed at Kalika, who honestly seems to be trying to figure this out. Hats off to you....but I am not going to make it any easier. This 'quest' was not ment to be solved in a day or two. The ending is open, and will depend on what you folks do.)

I overheard someone mention that they heard someone say that they heard the crying of a girl rising up from below (probably either from the dungeon or sewer ... not sure which). At the same time, a voice that sounded like Janeous Crenes was heard shouting in the plaza. I have no idea what this might mean yet.

Also, there has been talk of a crippled Klyros with only one good eye that was selling mushrooms in the city about a week ago. This description matches the description of someone that came into Kada'el's and tried to sell mushrooms to Hyuken, the barkeep, a week ago. Hyuken told me that this Klyros went by the name Jagk. Jagk also mentioned to Hyuken that he was trying to 'take care of two businesses'. I can only assume that selling mushrooms is one of them, but I am unsure of what the other might be.

/me coughs a few times and walks away.

Unaffiliated with any god, Kae'lith wonders if a sudden finding of faith would change her luck. She rushes into Kada-el's tavern, shaking water from her black fur and shivering fervently. The rain, she feels, is making her condition worse, and as she continues to cough and sneeze, she wonders if she will ever get better.

The faith in her will grow? I think some people would profit. There, another peace of the puzzle fits in, the mushrooms. What other choice do people have than praying to Laanx, especially if the mushrooms are out-of-season? Here, we can insert another peace, the immunty of Krans. If you were trying to create a cold, you would try not to be infected. So, we should try looking for a Kran, who is a follower of Laanx. Xillix was one of the first infected, so maybe she knows someone.

Rocks can't get sick, but if this cold did anything to them, they might mold, at the most. It's just like how they're also immune to magic.

/me wakes up with cold sweat and a banging paini in the back of his head, he takes a hand back there to touch it and shivers as he feels his fingers then looks at them covered a bit with blood, he drinks a potion and leans down under his bed to take forth a little diary.

Hmm i had this weird dream, while hearing rumors about this poet being killed right outside the tavern, a coincidence?

My dream with sitting at this lake in a cave with... a special person got interupted, with a flash i was suddenly on the north wall, above the north gate towards the bronze doors. There are these two men below me outside the gates, deep in the shadows of the night. One is a twisted Klyros with one eye. I can easily feel the poison in his body and the mushrooms in the pockets of his deep cloak.
The other was an elf, same as me, a nolthrir. But strangely people didn't matter that much, the rocks had more to tell. They were both angry and argued with whispers. The Klyros wanted more than the 120 circles the elf brought for payment for an odd thing that i didn't understand. I think it was a cloak, but there were two of them. But it still felt like there were only one to me. How could two things be one? I saw two but felt just one. It was odd.
The elf pulled out ten more circles and threw them on the ground, where two of them rolled under a rock. The klyros smacked the elf hard on the ankle making him limb, but handed over the two cloaks which was one. He gathered the eight circles and headed away from the city. The elf sneaked back along the wall where the guards wouldn't see. I didn't wonder more than a moment why he didn't pass the guards as the two circles cried to me not wanting to be lost.
I climb down, pick them up intending to give them to the guards so they could give them back to that elf, although i forgot about that quick too, when the wind found something interesting to talk about. I went back into the city I wonder now, but didn't then, why that elf was looking me over the wall the entire time, although people didn't matter as much to me... they do now though. Strange. Somehow i then remembered the coins again and walked towards Jefreca which i knew could give them back to the elf. I went outside, but a menki was standing in the way, then i woke up, this happened a few moments ago, the back of my head was bleeding from my illness, but i had cold sweat too... Propably a side effect from the vision Untar gave me.

Hmm also heard something with the vespers of laanx, since they were healed, could laanx have something to do with this?

/me puts the diary under his bed again and lies back again to rest.

The cold gets much worse today, and the chest pains are severe at times. Vison will be blurred. These new symptoms appear in all infected people at the exact same time. Any healer will be baffled at the path this sickness has taken, and some are beginning to call it a plague. It is now known that mushrooms are NOT the cure, and their affects are no longer working as well. Mushrooms will only stave off the symptoms for a few hours, rather than days now. Some upstanding citizens (NPCs) have also seemed to come down with the sickness, including Harn. The foul weather seems to be the only thing keeping the plague from spreading so fast, due to people staying indoors away from each other.

The sickness has become very aggressive in it's spread. (shortcut /tell $target (you have to target someone for this to work) [You are exposed to the "UN-common Cold" RP/event. You have a very good chance of getting the sickness. Check the ingame RP forum for details. Please help us find the cure!]

@Donari Tyndale: Getting warmer....but it seems no one is actually selling mushrooms, and they are no longer working as well as they did. Healers think they will stop working at all very soon, as the virus now seems to target the mushrooms healing power as well.

This sickness is supposed to be massively contagious the more that get it the more minds you have to resolve the problem, Yliakum put away your immunities and have some fun with an elaborate puzzle set up for you by fellow players.

Ingame: Only moments ago at 2:20PM-ish GMT, the plague symptoms seemed to fade greatly in all victims at once. Only occasional sneezing remains.

Upon investigation he dosent learn anything new but hears a voice behind him. He turns around to find gwinn standing and she pointed out that einnol had sneazzed on hher and that he was heading for the temple of laanx. Alliva thanks gwinn and runs of in persute upon entering the laanx temple he find einnol and another sitting not wanting to get to close he questions them from affar. As alliva questions him upon certian things he learns the that janeous had once tryed to destroy the laanx order up here on the surface. So alliva questions further and find out that janeous was once a member of a lower laanx temple and assasin of sorts that is hell bent on destroying xillix's group. from as far as alliva could make out to gain followers in the lower levels.

this is all i have although if he has once tryed to destroy xillixs vespars wouldnt it be possible he is trying to do it again this time not with his compulstion glyph but with this cold crying out that the vespars had done it and thats why they are cure. trying to get the ppl to turn on them i urge you all to take this information into consideration as i found that this man was infact a master of poison so it would lead me to bilieve he may well hold the cure.

Siteri: That varies based on your immunity. Some show up right away, while others have gone for days. You -can- be a carrier, and not show any symptoms at all. No one, I repeat no one is immune besides Kran. Your character may think he/she is immune because of uber skills in crystal healing, but that is wrong. You are not sick, nor a carrier because the virus either missed you, or did not target you.

The quest will only be solved one way, and that is for everyone to come together and share what they have seen, heard, and know. This is a puzzle, folks, and many of of you each have a piece. I dumped some pretty heavy clues in the temple last night. ;)

As I said, this is not a single person quest, so post your clues here for everyone. Yes, that means you as well, Maulus (who was there at at least three or four clue drops...in fact, he was at the very first, and we had a conversation....)

back to the RP:

Healers have been studying the 'cold' for at least a week now, but they only find the actual common cold virus. It should have passed by now, but it acts oddly in the body. Any magic used on it is absorbed by some unknown force. After today, the infected will start to have nosebleeds randomly.

You are not yourself, and strange thoughts spin through your head. For some reason you can not explain, you are sitting on top of the wall over the gates to the Bronze Doors Road. You are happy and smiling, despite the dark night. The stars are overhead. Yes, the stars that no one but you can see. You never knew why they could not see the stars, or why they could not hear the rocks speaking quietly to the trees. Everything has a voice, if you but listen. maybe they just do not know how. The two dark figures in the shadows directly below you do not hear the wall, nor the rocks talking. They do seem angry, though. A Klyros, you think, though his form is twisted by the posions of his mistake. The poisons don't seen to mind, nor do the mushrooms he carries. Oh look at that. The other man is one of those pointy eared fellows that live underwater. He does not seem happy. His sack of coins do not seem happy either, all one hundred and twenty circles of it. They do not like being spent on what the Klyros is selling. Two cloaks...but how are they still one? You see two, but only feel one. That is very odd. Now the elf is mad because the Klyros wants more money. They give angry whispers to each other, and the klyros hits the elf on his foot hard. The elf growls, but tosses ten more cirlces on the ground, two roll under a flat stone. The klyros picks them up, and hands the elf the two cloaks that are one. The Klyros limps down the road now, away from the city. You wonder for a moment where he might live, but the thought passes quickly. The elf watches him leave, and stands there for a long time, then limps back along the wall to where he had climbed it before to get out. You wonder why he did not pass the guards. The thought passes at not important, as the coins under the rock do not like being lost. You have to do something about that, so climb down to get them. You think you should give them to one of the guards inside, but the singing of a nearby blade of grass makes you forget. You go into the city, not even wondering why the elf had been watching you the entire time from his spot on the wall. People don't matter so much anyways, as the trees have so much more to say.

Your vision flashes.... it is days later, and you remeber the coins in your pocket. Oh look, there is that Jefecra guard. You should give him the coins to return to the elf. A Menki blocks your path.....

You suddenly wake up in a sweat. You are yourself again, no longer the poet. It was just a dream....wasn't it?

It is also known as the Eye of Truth, and rumors have it that it is for sale. Its powers could be used to see behind the Lies of the cloak, or maybe to prevent someone from discovering these Lies?

Einnol woke from his slumber to find Memieta and Mrog in the temple with him. Mrog claimed to have had to leave quickly the day before to meet his master, who had been studying the plague. Mrog asked to examine Einnol for clues for his ‘master’. Duning the examination, several people refused to eat anything made from apples, because of rumors that the plague comes from them. Also, Alcarin mentioned seeing a blue blur pass by him. Latter he admitted it may have just been a kran, as his vision was blurred.

Later, after the examination, Einnol recalled that Aeshion, a mute from childhood, had spoke in the temple the day before. It was also noted that she was a Diaboli, but seems to not be bothered by being in the temple. She also tried to get someone to touch a black stone. Some thought this to be Janeous’s compulsion glyph…that only a person trained for years could use.

The Cloak of Shadows, and someone named ‘Jagk’ were also talked about.

But, to test a vaccine, you must first have a person that is not sick, give them your 'vaccine' and then try to get them sick. PM me with your 'expairiments, and I will tell you what works, and who is now sick. Odd that no one has asked about a vaccine before. :)

Oddly, the symptoms are not as strong in newly infected people. They still change at exactly the same time, just do not make them as sick.

A few people i know have been working on this clue i have... very hard to figure out seeing as how its inbetween memories untar had... i think i may have found a something that moves the plague faster than from person to person... although i i am sure there is a way to reverse this and help slow down the speed the plague is traveling, im not sure i want to go the right way with this

Some people have taken an alternate path that by passed your clue, and took them to the next step. Note: The path they took was the harder path, so don't envy them.

On kran: Silicon -based- life form is what Kran are, not pure silicon itself. You are carbon based, yet you are not a solid lump of carbon black. The Kran's skin, and possibly skeleton, are the only parts that may be pure (relatively, as the come in different colors) silicon. The skin is likely formed the same way yours, or a tree's forms. As it is worn away from the outside, new silicon structures are being built from the inside, where Kran -are- soft. Think of them like silicon based turtles, insects, armadillos, or even crocodilians.

Injecting Kran blood into the bloodstream? I wouldn’t try that at home, kids. The chemical composition that would have to be in a Kran’s blood to keep it liquid in an oxygen environment would likely be very toxic to the Carbies. In fact, come to think about it, it might actually be a form of acid.

Just a reminder, anything that you figure out with Kran (and the answer is so obvious) is NOT a cure for those already infected, and will only keep the healthy from getting sick.

Since she seemed obsessed with apples, we assumed that she meant that the apples were poisoned. Later, it seemed that they were not...
But maybe she meant the sickness. If we'd only known what it really meant, this could have been prevented.

1. Obtain the Eye of Truth. This allows someone to see through Janeous' disguise.
2. Find Janeous once the Eye has been obtained.
3. Take away the Compulsion Glyph from Janeous, end its hold on the virus, then destroy the glyph or otherwise render it inaccessible to Janeous.
Once this is done, the virus will become a regular cold, and will go away as normal after a while.

*edit* Forgot to mention that the cold symptoms seem to be nearly completely gone today. Tomorrow, you will know why.

Ok, let me explain....no, there is too much. Let me sum up.

Janeous is now known to be the culprit behind the plague in an attempt to kill everyone opposed to his god, Lannx...who he sees as everyone. He has been using an illegal compulsion Glyph to control the actual common cold and make it deadly. Folks are assuming the only way to stop the plague is to get the Glyph out of his hands.

How it started (as people have learned by TALKING TO EACH OTHER and folloing the clues that I gave to random players):

Janeous used a cloak that allowed him to look like people he captured and imprisoned under the other half of the cloak (as it was really two cloaks) His prisoners were Aeshion and Tria. He used Aeshion's form to spy, and Tria's to START the plague with cold infected apples at Xillix's meeting several weeks ago.

The cold was controlled by magic, as I gave many hints to. That is why all symptoms changed at the same time, and Kran are immune. It is also why the Vespers stopped being sick, because Janeous stopped it in them in an attempt to make the people think that they were the cause of the sickness, and riot. This failed (but could have worked and you would not have a Xillix anymore)

Though a series of multiple paths, several small groups of players figured out the clues leading them both into the DR to read a book that tells them how to see through the Cloak of Shadows, and at the same exact time (damn you people for taking two paths at once xD) following the path that lead them to Tria and Aeshion under the temple.

They also found out that the Cloak robs the wearer of his humanity, and dilutes him to pure, uncaring evil. They also found out the extended use of the compulsion Glyph will rob a person of their sanity. Janeous has bee using the glyph for three weeks steady. You can now guess what kind of foe you are up against.

The neutral half of the cloak was taken off from Aeshion, who was almost dead (and would have been if this was played out wrong *winks at Einnol*) which trapped Janeous under the evil half, due to the fact that he could not finish the spell that had to be cast on the neutral half to release him. He is still under it now, but it only lets him look like Aeshion if she puts her half back on.

That brings us to now. Jane is insane, evil, and bent on destroying the entire population of 'blasphemers'.

The Cold returns to full force today, and healers will be able to see that it has begun to break down the tisues of the body in a way they can't stop. They know they are running out of time...and Jane holds the only cure.

When a character other than Aeshion puts on the neutral cloak, they see a breif flash through janeous's eyes, then pass out for about a quarter hour.

If Aeshion puts on the cloak, she looks like Jane.

The two parts of the cloak are not linked until the proper spell is cast on both of them at the same time, in the same area by the one under the dark half (there is a story behind why it is black, more on that after the RP). The same goes for UN-linking the cloaks, and the people under them. The cloak can only connect to Aeshion, who was the last one wearing it. Janeous can only link to her until the spell is broken by his words with her under the other half.

Hanging the brown (neutral) cloak on a tree, even a very small tree, would have only one effect. The cloak would now be hanging from a tree. *grins* Putting the cloak on almost anyone besides Aeshion will give an instant and very breif look through Janeous's eyes, then a massive backlash of magic comes through the cloak and knocks the person out -before- they can say anything, and they do not wake up for 15 minutes by themselves, or 5 minutes is someone wakes them. It is uknown if Janeous knows if someone has put the cloak on. If I do not happen to be online when someone puts the cloak on...well, Your timing was bad, as Janeous is sleeping or blinked. ;)

The hunt will officialy start in a day or two....but who will be hunting who?

But wait... The immobilization strategy is still doable, if Aeshion will agree to be tied up before the cloak is put on. Because we know that when Janeous changes, his clothes change too (at least, I didn't see any evidence suggesting that he didn't... after all, Einnol saw Aeshion looking like Janeous, he didn't see Aeshion looking like Janeous wearing Aeshion's clothes), so there's no reason to think that ropes wouldn't be treated the same way. If that doesn't work or he breaks out of the ropes, we could always break Aeshion's legs and then heal them after Janeous was captured...

The texts that Eid was read did not say anything about transfering actual atributes. That is why Janeous sounded like Aeshion, even though she can not speak. Breaking her leag and putting the cloak on her would do two things that would not be very helpful. One would be Janeous running around without any problems at all, but looking like a broken-legged Bolia. The other would be a very angry dwarf when Einnol found out what you did. The same goes for tying her up. Janeous would still have free movement.

They are strict on some points, and based on old school RP. Which means, yes, you will have to play by your skills and stats. That does not mean, however, that you have to have them leveled to the max. You will find out why.

A note is found pinned to a dead Klyros nailed to the door of the temple. No one saw how it came to be there. Something unknown has prevented the body from being drawn into the Death realm (per current game mechanics). The note is in a fine hand, and written very precisely.

On to the rules of this hunt. These rules should be followed as close as you can.

Rule one: No using tells, guild, group, IRC, MSN, or any means other than verbal, in-character communication. You may use tells ONLY as whispers if you are standing next to a person. If your character is not near another character, you can not hear them by any means other than /say or /shout.

Rule two: ALL players taking part in this RP must be in a group with Janeous. Anyone who is not will be assumed as not taking part in the RP. Add Janeous and Aeshion to your buddy list, and request an invite from Aeshion in /tell when you see them both online, as that means the hunt is active. (sorry I can’t be online more)

Rule three: You must do exactly as Janeous tells you in /tell or /group. I will be acting as your Dungeon Master in this way.

Rule four: You will be required to STOP and /roll Stats if you come upon Janeous’s traps. The fastest way to do this would be to make a shortcut for each stat. Sorry to roleplayers who did not power level, but I will have to say the sickness has reduced your stats to the actual numbers. Not to worry, though. as some traps will be better to have low stats. ;)

Rule five: Not really a rule, just a word of advice. Teamwork.

And now a little advice to make this more interesting. How your character thinks should greatly affect how they go about this hunt. Folks that think they are brave and strong will rush right it. Thinkers will stand back and ponder the best course. The timid will peek around every corner. And the cowardly will have someone else step in first.

Note: The above applies to both ‘good and evil’ characters, but the motivations for finding Jane will differ. The good want to find him for the cure. The bad will do the same, but for their own benefit. And there are the gray areas as well. I will give some examples of sides to play for your enjoyment.

The Do-gooder: Easy one. Be the hero and save the people. Protect your friends at all costs.

The Logical: Get the cure by any means. This may mean you have to break some eggs. Like leaving someone behind to continue the hunt. Some of these players may try to give Janeous what he asks for to get the cure.

The Devious: Will sacrifice everyone so they can be the hero. They may even ‘help’ some of their companions meet that end.

The Underhanded: Will seek Janeous out…to cut a deal with him for profit. Or they may actually try to capture him, just to hold him as ransom. Pay up, or you don’t get the cure.

The Insane: Will agree with Janeous that the world needs to be wiped clean, and will fight for him to that end. Fanatics.

The Phinehas: Will laugh as you all suffer.

These rules may change as we see waht works, and what does not.

String of clues:

The Scooby Gang (the players that have been following this closely) followed a string of clues the lead them to Krook’s statue, which told of a portal somewhere that leads to the death realm without dying. The only clue spoke of “a circle of fire next to the sun that leads to the dark”. Players figured this means the tower, but not what the rest means.

Other players just getting started in the RP found out a major clue that lead one of them to die to get into the DR to talk to the dead poet. The poet then read the book about the cloak, even though the words could not be understood by the dead. However, the duo of players figured out the clues, and found the coin that saw straight into the poet’s mind. One player remained in life with the coin, while the other died and let the poet read again. The player still alive could then understand the book through the poet’s mind. Clue “A book that can only be read by the dead, but only understood by the living” solved. Good work, Eid and Gwinn.

Going back to the Gang’s meeting with the twisted Klyros, Jagk Crawn in the tunnels of the Bronze Doors area, players would be advised to remember what Jagk had told them. Around fifteen years ago, Jagk had messed up a potion which had two effects. One was his terrible disfiguring. The other was a sudden trip to the DR where he found the black and brown cloaks after months of trying to get out. He found a book with them as well that had the saying on it that Eid and Gwinn figured out. The pages where blank to him… Fast forward to now. Jane had searched Jagk out to get the cloaks. But ask yourself this, my little gumshoes: How did Jane know how to use them?

A few days ago, the dead klyros was pinned to the door of the temple. Dead, yet not in the DR. Grunn pulled the nails out, and said there seemed to be some sort of magic in them that kept the body from being pulled into the deathrealm as well as the soul. (as the game works now) Once the nails were out, the man dissolved. It is rumored that if a sould goes to the DR without the body, the soul is lost forever. A sad end to a nice man.

Aeshion came to the temple yesterday to see how everyone was doing. The Scooby Gang there had figured from other clues that they can put the brown cloak on and see through Janeous’s eyes for one second before passing out for five minutes after a massive wave of magic hits them. Einnol put the cloak on, and saw the Temple from the outside, though he was not passed out as long as Alcarin had been when they found Aeshion and Tria under the Temple. The Scoobies then rushed out to the point they thought Jane would be, but found nothing. A thought came to them that if they could see through Jane’s eyes for a second, maybe he could do the same, most likely through just Aeshion’s eyes, even if someone else put the cloak on. She is still connected to him by the spell, after all.

The Gang broke up for the night, and some went back to the temple. There, they woke up a napping Sharven, who told them a Nolthrir man in a tight black cloak walked calmly into the temple -right- after they had all left to find Janeous. Being old and of very little brain, Sharvy thought nothing of it, and took a nap without seeing where the cloaked man went.

As they where seaching, some of the gang thought they heard laughter in the wind….just as their symptoms got much worse, now coughing blood. They know they are running out of time.

Notes: There are several ways to capture Janeous. One is to hit him until his health is below 10%. He is then weak enough to grab easily. Another is to rush him and /roll your Agility stat and beat his roll to grab him. To hold him, you must /roll Strength every time he does so he does not escape. /me <does this> is not acceptable unless you roll the proper stat to back it up. Pen and Paper rules, folks. Remember that Jane has not been leveled, so even the weakest of you have a chance.

I will have some ‘traps’ made that you will not be able to get out of yourself. This is NOT a single player quest like the rest of the ‘tasks’ in the game. Work together (or against each other) or you may end up on the wrong side of a /die.

The hunt is on. You job is to:

A. Find and stop him.
or
B. Lure and trap him.
or
C. Fine and use him to your own benefit. I am sure other players will pay a LOT to the player who holds the cure (and Janeous) as ransom.
or
D. Find him and join him.
or
E. Join with the Scooby gang to help Janeous by misleading them.

I will be using 'traps' written out in shortcuts to impend your characters, and make them work together. If you see Janeous stop and /me something, them roll, you must STOP and obey the instructions, or Janeous will log out and escape for the time.

These are two examples of traps as you will see them, and how to react to them:

Janeous laughs as the ceiling falls on <player>. ----- Other players must /roll [mining] and get a combined roll of over 20 to dig <player> out without harming the victim. You may roll once a minute until all rolls added together are greater than 20

This means anyone who wants to dig the victim out has to look at what their mining skill is, then roll that number to dig into the pile of rocks. You may /dig to make it look like you are actually doing something, but it is unneeded. In use with 4 players:

<victim> is traped, so can not roll.
<Dwarf> has mining of 20, so /roll 20 and gets a 15.
<enki> has mining of 4, so /roll 4 and gets a 2.
<Kran> has mining of 2, so /roll 2 and gets a 2.

That is 19. The victim is still trapped. Players must now wait one mintute for 'the dust to settle' to try some more.

<enki> /roll 2 and gets a 1.

That is now 20. The victim is free! Go after Jane! Or you could have just left the victim buried to save time. >:)

Example trap two:

Janeous has thrown a SLEEP CLOUD+2 potion at <player>.------- If you are near <player> /roll [your agility] and beat Janeous's roll to avoid the trap. If less than than Janeous's roll, you must fall asleep for the next three minutes.
Janeous rolls 2 75 sided dice for 68.

(Janeous has 75 for Agility, so one die is for how acurate his throw was. The Trap is a Cloud type 2, meaning it has a large area of coverage, so a second die is added because the throw does not have to be as accurate.)

<player> rolls 150 (max agi.) and gets a 98. [avoids the spreading cloud]
<dwarf> rolls 100 and gets a 20. [Goodnight dwarf. See you in three minutes]

If you have a problem with these types of traps and rules, please do not join in the hunt and ruin the fun of the players that do. To capture Janeous, you must knock him out by getting his HP to less than 10% WITHOUT killing him. If you kill him, he escapes into the deathrealm for the time. You may not capture Janeous if he is dead. You may also not capture Janeous if YOU are dead. Keep that in mind.

Janeous will be following 'courtesy rules', meaning he can not pass through other characters. He will also have a set number of traps to use, so he CAN run out. However, he can make more if he has a lot of time.

Add Aeshion to your Buddy list. If she is on, the hunt is active. Ask her for an invite, or go to the gathering place for the hunt to see who is head of the /group if I get disconnected. Important info will be given in /group.

Zorbels rushes to the temple hearing that her good friend Einnol has been sick. Once he is in her sight see realises that he is indeed very sick. She notes that he is pale and coughing alot.

Einnol smiles "My spirit is lifted just to see you after all this time, my dear friend."

Zorbels looks at Einnol with tears at the brim of her eyes 'I cannot find satayne and I have decided to give up. My guild needs me and my friends I miss."

Einnol nods understandingly

Zorbels says: "What sickness do you have ennol?"

Zorbels says: "You seem so pale and weak."

Einnol takes a deep breath and sighs.

Zorbels looks worried "Is there anything I can do to fix it?"

Einnol says: At first, it seemed to be just a cold. It was not until the symptoms got much worse that the truth was revealed.

Einnol says: Do you remeber Janeous, the Laanx priest who caused so much trouble for the Vespers some time ago?

Einnol says: About the same time that the Theives of Yliakum were extorting money from the Vespers?

Zorbels says: "No but I have heard rumor of him."

Einnol says: Aye. He belives that he is following the will of Laanx, but overuse of his illegal compulsion glyth has driven him insane. Even his own congregation has rejected him now.

Zorbels frowns "But what does this have to do with your sickness? Did he do this to you." Zorbels face fills with rage.

Einnol nods "He started the spread of this illness."

Zorbels ear flick back and forth as she listens to every detail

Einnol says: He had taken Tria, the young apple vendor, and Lady Aeshion prisoner.

Zorbels says: "So this cloak gives him this power?"

Einnol says: Not quite.

Zorbels quiets and listens to einnol

Einnol says: The brown cloak is the neutral cloak. He would put it on either Tria or Aeshion .. or the Klyros who is now dead. He wore the black cloak. Upon casting a spell, he would appear to be the one under the brown cloak, while they looked like him. This allowed him to walk around Hydlaa and spy on us.

Zorbels stares at Einnol with wide eyes "Is it ... I mean can people catch your illness?"

Einnol holds the rag to his mouth and nods. "Tis quite contagious. You are at risk just being here.

Zorbels says: "So is there a cure or way to stop this maddness?"

Einnol says: [Read my description.] "His control over it is only possible because of the compulsion glyth. He can make it stronger or weaker. He can make it kill those infected if he chooses. He can also cure those that he chooses, like he did with the Vespers.

Zorbels shudders "That isn't good."

Einnol says: He wanted to divert suspicion to the Vespers by making their illness go away.

Zorbels says: "So what does he have against the ones who are sick?" "Just that they cast him out of his preisthood?"

Einnol says: His intention was to discredit and destroy the Vespers by making everyone think them responsible.

Zorbels nods

Einnol says: His congregation is on one of the lower levels. I forget which one.

Zorbels says: "Ok and has it worked? Do others believe the vespers to be responsible?"

Einnol says: It almost did. Many suspected the Vespers and believed his lies at first. Some were calling for Xillix's head. Just like he wanted. And now, he is insane. But, he still believes to follow Laanx's will."

Zorbels growls low in her throat "I hope none have dared to harm her."

Einnol shakes his head slowly "She is well." We discovered the truth and proved that it is he that is responsible."

Zorbels looks relieved "Oh thank goodness."

Einnol says: We did find and rescue Tria and Aeshion. But, we were too late to help the Klyros. Some days later, Janeous used the Klyros to ... to deliver a message to us. Einnol lower his head.

Zorbels says: "Is there a plan in action to stop this madness?'

Einnol says: We have a few ideas. He wants what we have ... the cloak .... and Aeshion.

Zorbels says: "May I join in and offer my hand at wahatever needs to be done to stop this?"

Einnol smiles "Your swords would by most welcome, milady." He has many tricks and deception is his ally. With enough help, perhaps we will prevail. Einnol coughs a few times.

Zorbels nods and curls up beside einnol to take a nap but not willing to leave his side knowing how ill he is. "I need to sleep after my long travels looking for Satayne. After I have had rest I would love to hear the plans that have been made to hopefuly defeat this virus and catch Janeous."

Zorbels drifts off to sleep not aware of her fur begining to shed or the virus that runs threw her veins.

The Scoobies followed weeks of clues, and connected them together (more or less) to find and capture Janeous Creene, who has met a fitting punishment. All the clues I gave, and the paths I planned, and the characters I played will be written up to show you how much jane had been tricking you (and he was).

Sorry for not posting anything on this sooner. I came very close to not posting anything here for a long time, if ever again. I don't take well to being called a fool, and those who follow my RPs the foolish (yes, that means you). Not from a GM anyways. Anyways, back to what you came here to read.

The Un-common Cold: An open ended, unscripted, and all inclusive roleplay designed to bring players together to solve a great problem.

Many of you have wondered exactly where, and when this started. The roots of it actually started with the creation of Krook Betifale and his ‘lost book’ many months ago. I am sure some of you will remember the first time he spit at you, then demanded to know if you had seen his book. We will get back to that later.

The story truly started the instant Janeous Creene walked into the temple for the first time, somewhere in the middle of the Thieves vs. Vespers RP. Xillix had asked me to create a priest character to help give speeches and spread the word of Laanx. I was also to help in the RP… Little did they know at the time that I had already started the plotting of the downfall of the Vespers, and created my character to suit. Janeous Creene was, in fact, a priest of the Laanx religion on one of the other levels. But he was also a spy and assassin. He was a master of both herbology and alchemy. Poisons and drugs were his weapon of choice. That, and a rare and illegal Compulsion Glyph used for controlling people’s minds. He was sent by the lowers churches not to help, but to crush the upstart Xillix and her followers. The -first- plan failed, as you can read about in that RP, and he escaped into the Deathrealm and vanished…

Back to Krook. As some of you found out, he was the victim of a curse that would not allow any harm come to him, and so could not die. That would sound like a good curse to have, if not for the fact that it also cursed any friend he ever made to suffering and death. So, he had spent all his long years trying to find a way to ‘die’ without dying. He searched for a portal into the DR, so he could see his wife and child again. In the end, the curse was broken in The Shadow in the Hills RP, which was the -only- thing not scripted in that thing, despite my efforts. Back To the story, Krook finally found the portal, but old age found him as well, and he died…one week before the uncommon cold started. He left his book behind.

Now what happened next out in the hills of Krook’s home is uncertain…. Ok, it isn’t. I know exactly what happened. Janeous Creene had been on the prowl again. During his time in the DR, he had read many of the books there, and found a way to use his compulsion Glyph to control a common virus, and make it deadly. He also found a book that he could not read, as the words kept changing. He knew from mentions in other books that it was a book about an object called the Cloak of Shadows, and how to use it. But he had to be alive to be able to understand it. Janeous learned by talking to lost souls that a Klyros by the name of Jagk had come into the DR 15 years ago, and found the Cloak itself, but could see no words in the book. Jagk had come into the DR alive due to a terrible mistake with one of his potions. So, Janeous came out of death to find the cloak for part of his insidious plot to once and for all destroy the Vespers.

Eventually, Janeous met Jagk in his home in the Bronze Doors caves, where Jagk agreed to sell the Cloak to Janeous. He also told Jane about a dwarf who had been asking about how to get into the DR alive, about ten years ago. This being Krook. Janeous immediately went on a search for the Dwarf, but found that he had died just days before, and that only a few people knew where his home was hidden.

Enter my longtime character, Aeshion, the mute Diabolia, and friend to Krook. Janeous also knew her, and hated her for her part in foiling his last plan. While in the hills looking for Krook’s home, he spotted her, and followed, planning on ending her life. What he did not know is that she was on her way to visit Krook’s home to say goodbye, as she had just heard of his death. So that is how Jane was lead to Krook’s book that told of the portal. It was also how he captured Aeshion.

Janeous waited until all in the Temple had left, then dragged his prisoner into the pit to hide her in the depths for his new plan. He then went to the top of the tower, and laid out a circle of rubies. This opened an invisible portal to the DR. All he had to do is pick up one of the rubies to be transported there, where he convinced a lost soul to read him the book about the Cloak. Now that he had the information, he left the DR to find another victim….

That was all just to set this roleplay up. All of the above could have been found out (and was for the most part) through clues left with players, and asking the right questions. This next part is where I started to involve actual players. Some of you are going to be upset at how many of the clue drops one of your fellow players was at, yet never said anything. *evil grin*

Tria Mepalla was created several month ago for an event like this, if not for this one exactly. She is young and spunky. Just the type that will always end up in trouble. After selling apples, and endearing her to as many players as I could over a few weeks, she was ready for her first spotlight in an RP:

Tria runs past (Jefecra, the guard outside the tavern) looking worried. She then rushes into the tavern and hides against the door.

Maulus eyes Tria, then says, “Excuse me, miss, are you alright?”

Tria peeks out the door, while breathing hard. she then turns to Maulus “I...who are you?”

Tria is offered a drink (despite her young age of 14) by a player that comes into play later. By then renamed Coneitic. Tria looks at the others in the tavern with relief in her eyes.

Maulus says, “You seem out of breath, been running?”

“I... I think someone...is... was...following me.”

"How do you figure?" Maulus asks with a raised eyebrow.

“I saw him whenever I turned around... but I never saw him walking. He was just always there...no matter how fast I walked. I just started to run. The last I saw him was by the library.”

Hovan scratches his chin thoughtfully with a question, "One of yours Maulus?" then looks to Tria as Maulus shrugs. "Did you get an idea of his race?"

“Aye, do you know what his race was?” Maulus repeated the question.

“I think he was a dermy (Elf), but I am not sure. I was scared! He...never looked at me...but it felt like he was watching....somehow. Like he -knew- me. I don't think I ever sold him any apples.”

And there folks, where the first two clues. The mystery elf, and the apples. It turns out she was wrong about Janeous’s race, him being a Nolthrir. In her defense, he is also a master of disguise. Tria never made it home that night. Not the -real- Tria, that is.

Enter another clue: Jefecra’s logbook in the forums. Posted for me by Weavers for my help with their guild.

The incident of the lost girl was quickly solved as well. Her mother had reported her missing after being just an hour or two late for dinner. It seems the girl had been outside the City walls by herself and had taken a tumble down a hill. She blamed the limp and dizziness for getting home late. I have told her it is not safe for fourteen year old girls to be outside the north of the City without guardians, as that is where many creature come from. She promised to never do it again. She never did say why she was out there. I do recall seeing her running into the tavern earlier today, though, looking rather frightful. She never mentioned the tavern, though, and seemed very happy, if still a bit dizzy. I will ask her and Mrs. Mepalla about it in the morning, and send one of the new recruits to retrieve her lost basket of apples.

The very next day, Xillix had her meeting in the Temple for her important announcements. http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=25875.0 One of which was the rumor that Janeous Creene might be lurking about again, and that he was very dangerous. Of course, it was me who gave that info to Xillix a week before, and what caused the meeting to be set up in the first place. Xillix was in on quite a few of the secrets and clues to help guide the RP, as you will see later.

So, having set up a meeting of Vespers and leaders, it was time to strike the first blow. As Tria, I began to hand out the tained apples -the source of the Cold-, and scatter them about the room. She was not the -real- Tria, but Janeous using the Cloak to be Tria. Then, so as to leave a little mystery while telling people they were exposed to the Cold, I had a second character on standby, hidden elsewhere in Hydlaa. I used Tria as my eyes, but used this other character to send tells to all the players in that room, telling them of the sickness. Interestingly enough, this worked too well, as Tria was never suspected at all, until closer to the end of the RP, and after many more clues. I even drew attention to her several times in that meeting, and left limping and dizzy, which is a big clue that links to others that I will get to later. During the meeting, Xillix mentioned Janeous several times as a great threat to the Vespers and their friends….then the sickness started.

The first people exposed were as follows: Peacer, Gag, Mahcho, Hassadria, Skreit, Nibela, Daehaz, Morirori, Jorelle, Xillix, and Indygo. The ‘character’ I used to do the ooc tells was Fes Est, Latin. Look it up. Cookie to the first person who comes back with what it means. The message itself:

“You may have been infected by the Common Cold [RP, check the forum for details] If you are infected, please add this to your character description. Thanks and have fun!”

Sounds like fun right? This was right after I asked Phinehas to post the first Common Cold thread for me, which he did with his own brilliant flare. It was meant to look like something fun and harmless to RP. Just the sniffles and sneezing is all… The best way to infect as many people as possible is to make something seem harmless at first. *evil grin*. Now, How many would have joined in if it started out as the UN-common Cold, and any joining might be visiting the DR for a great deal of time? Smoke, mirrors, and tricks… It was time to let the cold sink in for a few days.

In the meantime, it was also time for me to start dropping more clues. Two hours after that meeting, there was another run-in with Tria at the North Gate.

(17:05:15) Tria stumbles, almost as if drunk, and trips into Alcarin.
(17:05:28) Tria says: Get off from me!
(17:05:39) Alcarin steps back
(17:05:47) Alcarin says: Are you okay?
(17:05:51) Tria gives Alcarin a shove.
(17:06:03) Tria says: You leave me alone.
(17:06:13) Tria stumbles.
(17:06:33) Tria tries to walk around Alcarin, but trips again
(17:07:05) Tria says: Get....out of....my...way
(17:07:31) Alcarin starts forward to chatch Tria, then stops since she wishes to be left alone
(17:07:43) Tria holds her right hand over her face as a tremmor shakes her.
(17:07:52) Alcarin takes a few steps back
(17:08:17) Alcarin then steps forward, "Are you feeling well?"
(17:08:18) Tria whispers, “It is wearing off....damn! He said it would last three hour...fool…”
(17:08:59) Tria puts her right hand over her face.

If Alcarin could have seen under that hand, he would have been very surprised to see Janeous Creene’s face beginning to take shape as the power of the Cloak began to fade, as it only lasted for a few hours at a time. As it was alos found out later in the RP, wearing the Cloak also make the person begin to get very dizzy, which is why ‘Tria’ stumbled dizzily as she left Xillix’s meeting. ‘Tria’ gave Alcarin a final shove, then rushed outside and vanished. To highlight this incident, I send another log to Weavers for Jefecra to post, along with a huge clue…that no one connected to the Cold for the longest time.

The 'code' was figured out to be: "Go to the north gate, the first day of the week ending.
Bring 120 circles, the cloak of shadows is yours.
Do not be late, I will be there but once.
Betray me and your death will be quick and painful.

Jagk, the twisted Klyros, is another character I created a few months before the RP started. His part comes later.

You will note in the last part of that post, I mentioned the sickness. A subtle clue, but there for the astute. One again, I thank Weavers for cooperating without knowing what I was doing yet. Other players at that time were: Manjas and Morirori.

Time runs short today, so I will continue the unraveling another day. Thank you for being a lovely audience.

Is there a Cloak of Light? One that would have the same disguising attributes as the Cloak of Shadows, but would turn whoever wore one half good, and invigorate whoever wore the other half?

Maybe I could "find" one... hehehe.

Tria was missing, Aeshion had not been seen for a week, and Janeous was on the prowl with a newfound power to look like his two prisoners.

Let’s skip ahead to Monday, the 9th of October. In-game and on the forum, the word was spread that this was no simple cold. Forum-wise, I started this thread, and ingame:

(18:46:59) Grunn says: Anyone who is sick from the Common Cold [RP, details on the forum], I ask that you try not to come into contact with any other people, or limit if you can. The Cold is showing very odd symptoms, and Healers have advised that you keep away from any sick people you may see. Do not worry, as I am sure the healers will figure this out soon. I must go spread the word.

Tuesday, the 10th. Things went a little off kilter from what was intended. Untar, my poet, empath, and very first character, had seen the exchange of the Cloak between Jagk and Janeous days before. Being very absent minded, he had just recalled the meeting today, and was at Kada’s to tell Jefecra about it. He was in the Tavern, and started spouting a random poem. “The wind calls, so I must follow to where it gleans. Ask the mushrooms, they know, they know. Ask the mushrooms to where the wind blows, to where Jagk knows.

Then things went south in a hurry. On the way out of the tavern….

(18:42:49) Untar says: Fur and claws? (talking about a menki)
(18:43:07) Untar tips his head at the street.
(18:43:14) Coneitic says: skin and nails?
(18:43:28) Untar says: Yes, yes. He does seem funny. **aside** It is unsure who Untar was talking to here, but I assume it was the cobblestones.
(18:44:08) Untar says: His shiny steel is dizzy from all the running.
(18:44:39) Untar looks up at the sky with a smile.
(18:45:45) Untar says: For reasons why do your blades ask to be they out to the breeze?
(18:46:44) Untar closes his eyes.
(18:47:08) Coneitic picks his pockets while untars eyes are closed and steals 2 circles without him noticing **aside** For which he would have been arrested by the two NPC guards behind him, but choose to think he had not been seen. That is, of course, if Untar had even had those two circles in the first place. Untar‘s inventory happened to be empty. *rolls eyes*

(18:51:52) Untar says: Are you not Maulus ? Known to the guards as a taker of things?

(18:52:16) Coneitic laughs "take of things, how mean sounding"
(18:52:21) Maulus says: This man, or at least his mask, is the one you speak of.
(18:52:34) Untar says: And you, poor sould known as Coneitic. You have taken while they watch.

Client crash. As I logged back in...

(18:54:19) Coneitic laughs
(18:54:29) Maulus shrugs "If he attacked me, it would be so, but he is too smart for sensless violence I assume."

Then, suddenly and without apparent reason, Coneitic attacked and killed the unarmed poet. The information Untar carried was lost... for a time. Luckly, I was quick to plan around the mistakes made by a hopeless noob, and bring the clue back to light in another way. Being an empath, I imbuded the ‘stolen coins’ with Untar’s memories of Janeous and the Cloak, and made sure everyone knew of it. Coneitic became a hunted man in a very short time.

Grunn, as a member of the City Guard, make his rounds to alert the people of this crime, and to talk to the people. He ran into Gharin, who was infected with the Cold.

(20:45:06) Grunn says: You look sick, sir. Have you tried mushrooms? I hear they help a little.
(20:45:30) Gharin says: Yes sir i tried and it seems there isnt a cure yet
(20:45:56) Gharin says: Ive been resting in front of the fire in the tavern trying to sweat it out but no luck
(20:46:20) Grunn says: Hmmm. Where did you find the mushrooms. I have been looking for some.
(20:46:51) Grunn says: They don't seem to grow anymore.
(20:47:29) Gharin says: I was given them by a kind lady who helped me to the tavern
(20:48:02) Grunn says: Not a klyros? A twisted one, with only one eye?
(20:48:28) Gharin says: I havent seen a oned eyed Klyros but that would be a hell of a sight
(20:49:05) Grunn says: Well, I was told a crippled Klyros was selling mushrooms about a week ago.
(20:49:49) Gharin says: Don't get to close sir this cold is nasty. I think you're immune anyway
(20:53:06) Gharin sneezes
(20:53:33) Gharin coughs
(20:53:49) Grunn says: It is good we do not get sick from this illness, but I feel for the other races.
(20:55:30) Muiredach Scratches his head and looks at Gharin with a puzzled face.
(20:58:26) Grunn says: How long have you been sick, sir?
(20:59:03) Gharin says: Just one day
(21:00:35) Grunn says: And this sick already?
(21:02:00) Gharin says: It started with a cough and escalated into hot flushes,shivers,runny nose and even the odd hallucination but that may be all the beer ive been drinking to sooth the pain

(21:03:46) Grunn says: Do you know where you caught it? It might be a good idea to track down the source.
(21:05:04) Gharin says: I believe a lady named Xillix was coughing around Harnquist yesterday i may of caught it from her sir
(21:05:15) Grunn says: Xillix? The priestess?
(21:05:27) Gharin says: Yes
(21:06:23) Grunn says: Hmmm. I will have to report that to Jefecra. We have been watching her, though I don't think she would start such a sickness.
(21:07:13) Gharin says: Its the only person ive been around who seemed to have symptoms
(21:07:14) Grunn says: It makes me wonder, though.
(21:07:29) Grunn nods.
(21:07:58) Grunn says: Well, get some sleep, and try some more mushrooms, if you can find them. I must go make my report to Sir Jefecra.

This little conversation was to lead people to Jagk, who was the twisted Klyros who sold the cloak to Janeous.

On this day, I also created Ceruny, a newcomer to the land. He was a Kyros who was searching for mushrooms to help cure a sick friend. He mentioned several times that he had heard the only place to find mushrooms was the Bronze gates. He also had a terrible part to play in the RP. This will be explained later, and on another day. Many more clues to come.

As more people became sick, some of them took refuge in the temple. This drew the attention of many others who came to help. One of those was Grunn of the City guard, who came by quite often to see how everyone was doing, and pass on information he had heard through his duties. That was how I gave out most of the rest of the clues. One was even of Aeshion 'speaking', which all who know her know that she can not do.

Untar's empathic powers gave dreams to several people, which gave clues to Jagks location. This, along with the mushroom links and many mentions of the Bronze Doors lead a small group of adventurers all the way to the small room in the caves, where they found Jagk. Mudis, Alcarin, and Peacer came inside, while Einnol and possibly other players continued the search of the rest of the area. They were probably the lucky ones, as Jagk had a terrible slur that was very hard to understand. *evil grin*

The Scoobies of this group found out that the cloak makes one dizzy from using it, and that it might be used to make one person look like another. This lead them to thinking Tria may have been Janeous, thus explaining her actions with Alcarin. They also found out about a book...in the DR.

This was a branching quest, so there was more than one path to take a lot of the time. Much later, two groups of players happened to find and take two of those paths at once near the end. It was also where the secret book was found in the DR on another path. This book could only be read by the dead, but only understood by the living. Eid and Gwinn used this info to figure out that one of them had to die (Gwinn), and had the dead poet read the book while the other (Eid) remained alive and 'listened' through an empathic link with Untar. The 'stolen' coin provided that link. As to what Coneitic was gibbering about some way to make the Cold worse with the other stolen coin, I don't have a clue what he is talking about, as that was his own invention.

On the other path, here is when Krook's statue and book where found out in the hills north of the city. The players in this group where Einnol, Peacer, Siteri, Alcarin, Xillix, and Siofra (sorry if I missed anyone.) They found out about a portal on the top of the tower that Janeous had been using to go to the DR. They immediately headed to the tower. On the way though the darkness below the Temple, Einnol's sharp eyes spotted Tria's apple basket far down the cliff. The group investigated, and found Janeous standing out in the open! Einnol drew his axes and rushed to attack, but was halted by the scream of Tria, who was tied up and hidden further down the path. It was not Janeous, they found out, but Aeshion Einnol was about to attack. As they reached out to touch 'Janeous, the neutral half of the Cloak was felt, and pulled away. Aeshion then apeared in Janeous's place.

This trapped Janeous under the other half of the Cloak, wherever he was hiding, as he needed to cast the spell of release on Aeshion to take his part off. Two things found out earlier in the quest were these: The Glyph made the user insane after extended use, and the Cloak soaked the wearer with intense evil... And Janeous was now using the first steadily for three weeks now, and was trapped in the second...

Post by: Under the moon on November 17, 2006, 01:48:40 am: Onwards and forwards! Er…and backwards, as I missed a part. Before, I had given mention to one Ceruny Pebies. Don’t blame me for the silly last name, as I used the random generator. The first name was so bad I had to edit it, though. The following took place before much of the others I wrote about.

Ceruny was a simple son of a simple fisherman. He would not have stood out in a crowd of three. And that is exactly why Janeous chose him for his next victim, and new face. I also played Ceruny to be a newbie just starting the game, and not the best at roleplaying. No one suspected a thing. ;)

Ceruny entered the Temple for the first time on Oct 18, Wednesday. There, he met with Alcarin and Einnol, who had taken to staying at the Temple while sick. This lead them to get a lot of clues others missed out on. In fact, Grunn was there at that very moment, handing out info like old Halloween candy. Mudis, an actual newcomer, came into that meeting as well, and lead the others to some important discoveries. These are some of the clues that surfaced at that time. Janeous was found out to be using the Cloak of Shadows to look like others. He had started the plague in hopes of laying the blame on Xillix, and having the town tear her apart. That came -very- close to working, but for some people raising suspicion. They figured out Aeshion had been missing for a week before the Cold started, and the also found out Tria is allergic to milk, but had been seen drinking some at the tavern. Grunn told part of an old story that gave vague, and wrong clues about the Cloak, and its powers. They learned of Jagk some more as well. Ceruny just listened, and tried to help where he could, then parted.

Two days later, the Scoobies had talked to Jagk, and had his clues, so where hot on Janeous’s trail now. But the girls were still missing, and people were getting worried. Janeous could not use their forms anymore, as too many people knew it was him… Ceruny came back to the Temple again, but he was not the same, if anyone would have been paying attention. His voice was more confident and demanding as he asked what a gathering of people was all about, and where Xillix was. This is because Janeous was now he, and the real Ceruny was captured with the girls. Duvare, Peacer, Irick, Vornne, Runedan, Alcarin and many others were there in some sort of argument. Still not sure what it was about, but it semed to involve my Cold, so I thought to wait and stir up some things. *evil grin*

(22:42:20) Peacer says: we need to have a strong bond of trust and know each other well, it's this trust and these friends which makes the light strong
(22:43:06) Ceruny says: But what if it is one of us helping the evil man?
(22:51:17) Peacer starts explaining about The vision and Jagk in details as well as his theories
(22:52:56) Ceruny listens carefully.
(23:13:40) Grunn says: I have seen the report, and heard Peacer's words. It seems that Jagk, the Klyros has been found. He did indeed sell Janeous Creene something called the Cloak of Shadows, which stories say lets two people meet in secret, even when far apart. Jagk said it did not work that way, though, and never could get it to work. it was also told to be not one object, but two cloaks.
(23:14:54) Grunn says: Jagk spoke of finding the cloaks in the Deathrealm along with a book he could not understand. He took the cloaks, but could not bring the book out.

Then the Scoobies went to work on their own, slowly piecing the clues together.

(23:24:29) Grunn says: Do we know where he started it yet?
(23:24:43) Grunn says: Tell me.
(23:24:45) Peacer looks at grunn "Hmm Janeous... i think"
(23:24:55) Alcarin says: Jagk also said that the compulsion glyph would lose it's power if it was used on more than one thing at a time...
(23:25:00) Peacer says: well maybe he went into the meeting as tria, then infected xillix
(23:25:13) Grunn nods to Peacer
(23:25:54) Alcarin says: I thought Xillix said Daehaz[sp?] was the first to act sick at the meeting though...
(23:25:58) Grunn says: That sounds likely. We think janeous has been using two women as spies.
(23:26:46) Grunn says: maybe all at the meeting were infected at once.
(23:27:43) Grunn says: a person's immunity seems to affect how long before they get sick.
(23:28:15) Grunn says: Perhaps Xillix was infected first, but did not know it. Tria came very close to her, correct?

Anyways, this eventually lead them to The girls and saving them, and also the book…but first, Ceruny had one last act to play…

Aeshion and Tria where now rescued, but told of some terrible news. Ceruny had been killed after he took off the brown half of the Cloak and tried to untie the girls. His body would reappear later… nailed to the Temple Door.
