Title: Server Failed
Post by: Journey on October 10, 2006, 10:49:26 pm
Well, I downloaded the game a few days ago and every time I try to log in it says "Failed" next to the server name. I'm on a Mac Core Duo and I really like to stay on the Mac side and not switch to Windows to get it working. Any advice would help!

Are you using a router or firewall, by any chance?

May I recommend that you look through the MacOSX section of the forum for further help? Perhaps some of the sticky threads can hold a solution, and if you don't find anything, either make a post there or PM Cha0s for help.

The utility used to test server connectivity is just ping. You are repeating the process that Planeshift uses for the same results. Try pinging other sites too. If you are using ping from a business, college, or other entity with a network department, they may be blocking it. You have already mentioned you are not using a router.  Also, some dsl modems and cable modems have been known to have internal firewalls which may block it by default.  If you cannot ping any other websites, please download your modem's respective guides to troubleshoot them and see which ports they allow.  I would also check to make sure OSX isnt blocking the port by default.

A small correction Rolenun, the client doesn't use the icmp ping packets to check server connectivity.  It uses udp packets through port 7777. In order to play PS, you must make sure you have that port open.

Ya, mine's been saying "Server Failed". Its ether because their fixing something and disabled the Fragnetics or my client is bad. But I also checked the planeshift site for game servers, and I tried to go on to the Fragnetics server site but it is saying that the web page is not working. And the thing is that it used to work fine and I used to play it alot.
